Components

Location Decks: 10 Location Decks (identifiable by their card backs), with 8 cards each. The ten decks are Boldhome, Colymar Lands, Duck Point, Dragon's Eye, Dwarf Mine, Earthshaker's Temple, Furthest, Grazelands, Shadows Dance and Sun Dome.

Each Location Deck contains:

  • 1 x Waha's Blessing card. Either immediately swap this card with a Raid! card from an opponent's Herd, or keep it in your display and use it later.
  • 1 x Stampede! card. Discard one of your highest value Raid! cards in your Herd with this card. If you have no Raid! cards in your Herd, simply discard this card.
  • 1 x Tribal Champion card. Defends against Enemy Magic. If you have two Tribal Champion cards, discard both, along with all of the Raid! cards in your Herd.
  • 1 x Enemy Magic card. Discard a Tribal Champion card with this card if you have one. If not, discard all of the Raid! cards from your Herd with this card.
  • 1 x Raid! card worth 100 Cows.
  • 2 x Raid! cards worth 50 Cows.
  • 1 x Raid! card worth 20 Cows.

Raid! cards: display this card face up in front of you as part of your Herd.

5 Khan Cards: representing the tribes of Prax: High Llama Tribe, Impala People, Morokanth, Bison Riders and Sable Nation.

1 Impala People Token, with a brown side and a coloured side.

13 Corral Tiles, each with an open side and a closed side.

Game Setup

Sort the cards by the images on their backs into the ten Location Decks.

Shuffle each Location Deck and arrange them in the centre of the table.

Shuffle the Khan Cards. Distribute one Khan Card randomly to each player, or let players choose their favourite in order of age, starting with the youngest player.

Each player also receives the following number of Corral Tiles:

  • 2 players: 4 Corral Tiles
  • 3 or 4 players: 3 Corral Tiles
  • 5 players: 2 Corral Tiles

Each player places their Khan Card and their Corral Tiles in front of them, and leaves a space in front of their Khan Card for their Herd. Corral Tiles begin the game with their open side face up.

The game box serves as a place to put discarded cards.

Game Play

Play begins with the oldest player, or the player with the Impala People Khan Card.

Each player takes an action, and play passes to the next player in clockwise order.

Play continues in this manner until all of the Location Decks are emptied, and the game ends.

Player Actions

On their turn, you may perform one of the following actions:

  • Raid a Location
  • Corral your Herd
  • Use Waha's Blessing
  • Use a Khan Ability

Action: Raid a Location

To raid a location, choose a Location Deck and turn over the top card. Depending on the card revealed, act as described below.

Raid! Cards (20, 50 and 100 Cows)

Display the revealed Raid! card face up in front of you as part of your Herd. If you already have Raid! cards in your Herd, simply add the new cards.

Until safely placed in one of your Corrals the Cows in your Herd are vulnerable to escaping in a stampede, being lost to infighting among your tribal champions, succumbing to enemy magic, or even being stolen away by another player. Once Raid! cards are placed from your Herd into a Corral, they are safe and are no longer considered part of your Herd. See Corral Your Herd for more details.

Stampede!

Some of the cows in your Herd escape in a Stampede! You must discard one of your highest value Raid! cards (20, 50, 100 Cows) from your Herd into the box together with the Stampede! card.

If you do not have any Raid! cards in your Herd the Stampede! card has no effect, simply discard it.

Tribal Champion

The Tribal Champion defends your Herd against Enemy Magic. Display the card in front of you.

However, if you already have a Tribal Champion card, a second Tribal Champion causes infighting (there can be only One!) and you lose all of the cards in your Herd. Discard them into the box together with the two Tribal Champion cards.

Waha's Blessing

This card allows you to steal Cows from another player. You may:

  • Steal cows from another player: you may immediately give the Waha's Blessing card to another player, then take any Raid! card (20, 50 or 100 Cows) from their Herd and place it in your own Herd.
  • Keep Waha's Blessing card for use later: place the Waha's Blessing card on top of your Khan Card. On any subsequent turn, as an action, you may use it against another player to steal one of their Raid! cards in the manner described above.
  • Keep Waha's Blessing: each Waha's Blessing card is worth 20 Cows at the end of the game.

Each Waha's Blessing card can only be played to steal a Raid! card from another player once per game. The player who was stolen from places the Waha's Blessing card under their Khan Card to show it has already been used and can't be used again.

At the end of the game Waha's Blessing cards are worth 20 Cows each, and are added to the owning player's final score.

Enemy Magic

The Location you are raiding gains magical support from the gods! Unless you have a Tribal Champion, discard all Raid! cards from your Herd into the box together with the Enemy Magic card.

If you have a Tribal Champion card, your Herd is safe! Discard the Tribal Champion card into the box together with the Enemy Magic card.

Action: Corral your Herd

While your Raid! cards are displayed in front of you they are vulnerable to Stampede!, Enemy Magic and Waha's Blessing cards. To keep your cows safe, you need to place them in a Corral.

To Corral your Herd, flip one of your open Corral Tiles to its closed side and place it on top of the Raid! cards in your Herd, moving them to one side.

Once in a Corral the Raid! cards remain safely there until the end of the game. They are no longer counted as being part of your Herd and are immune to Stampede!, Enemy Magic and Waha's Blessing cards.

You may put any number of Raid! cards in a Corral at the same time, but each Corral can only be filled once per game.

If you have a Tribal Champion card, it gets discarded into the box whenever you Corral your Herd.

Action: Use Waha's Blessing

If you have a previously unused Waha's Blessing card, you may use it against another player to steal one of their Raid! cards.

Give the Waha's Blessing card to another player, then take any Raid! card (20, 50 or 100 Cows) from their Herd and place it in your own Herd.

Action: Use a Khan Ability

Khan Cards give players special abilities. Some of these are always active, while some require the player to spend an action to activate. The following Khan Cards have abilities that require an action to activate:

  • Impala People
  • High Llama Tribe

These abilities, along with the abilities of all other Khan Cards, are detailed on the back cover of this rulebook for easy reference.

Game End

The game ends when the raiding season is over and all the cards in the ten Location Decks have been picked up and played. Each player then totals the values of the cows under their Corral Tiles, any remaining displayed Raid! cards in their Herd, and all the Waha's Blessing cards they have. The player with the highest score is the winner, and is declared Khan of Khans!

In the event of a tie, the player with the most Waha's Blessing cards is the winner. If this does not break the tie, the player with the highest number of individual Raid! cards wins.

Khan Abilities

The Impala People

Observant: Begin the game with the Impala People token, brown side face up.

Each time you Corral your Herd, flip the Impala People token to its coloured side.

This is a reminder that, on a later turn, as an action, you may reveal one card from up to three different Location Decks (so that all other players can see). Choose one. The other cards are turned back over. Once you have used this ability, flip the Impala People token back to its brown side.

The Bison Riders

Resolute: Whenever you pick up a second Tribal Champion card you only lose one of your highest value Raid! cards. Both Tribal Champion cards are still discarded.

The Morokanth

Shrewd: You start the game with one extra Corral Tile.

The Sable Nation

Devious: Keep Raid! cards in your Herd face down to hide their values. Other players must choose a Raid! card at random if they use a Waha's Blessing on you. You may shuffle your cards before they get to choose. Your Waha's Blessing and Tribal Champion cards remain face up.

The High Llama Tribe

Sneaky: As an action, you may sneak one extra Raid! card into one used Corral. Each Corral may only take one extra card. Place the Raid! card face down in the Corral to show you have sneaked an extra card in.

Hint

In each Location Deck, you will find: 1 x Waha's Blessing, 1 x Stampede!, 1 x Tribal Champion, 1 x Enemy Magic, 1 x Raid! card worth 100 Cows, 2 x Raid! cards worth 50 Cows, and 1 x Raid! card worth 20 Cows.

If you observe carefully what is revealed at each location, you can amass many cows and avoid unnecessary risks!
