House Ekwidon
Winds of Exchange introduces a brand-new House to your games of KeyForge: the Compacts of Ekwidon, the game's eleventh House.
Meet the Merchant Compacts of Ekwidon, a vast network of traders obsessed with making deals and new investments across the Crucible. They are masters of subtly gaining the upper hand in any situation.
As with all Houses in a KeyForge deck, which cards belong to the Ekwidon is determined by the House icon printed on each card; the general House rules from the core rulebook (choosing an active House, which cards can be played or used, and so on) apply to the Ekwidon exactly as they do to any other House.
Token Creatures
Master one of the defining characteristics of Winds of Exchange, the token creature mechanic. Every deck will come with a designated token creature card which acts as the template for all "token creatures" that your deck generates via card effects.
Some KeyForge decks include a token creature reference card. Such decks have the ability to make token creatures through card abilities.
When a card ability instructs you to make a token creature, take the top card of your deck and put it into play, facedown, as an exhausted creature on a flank of your battleline. This facedown card is considered to be a copy of the creature described on your token creature reference card.
Token creatures can be used just like creatures and count as creatures for the purposes of card abilities.
You may look at the reverse side of token creatures you control. You cannot look at the reverse side of token creatures your opponent controls.
When a token creature leaves play, it reverts to its printed card type after it is moved to the appropriate out-of-play zone.
If a player takes control of their opponent's token creature, it remains a token creature with the same name as when it was made; it does not change to the token creature of its new controller.
If you take control of an opponent's card that makes token creatures, but your deck does not include a token creature reference card, the "make a token creature" effect does nothing. Likewise, if you take control of an opponent's card that refers to a specifically named token creature, and your deck does not contain that named token creature reference card, any ability that refers to named token creature does not resolve.
Example: You play "Borrow" 213 to take control of your opponent's Blorb Hive 121, which reads "Omni: Destroy a friendly creature. If you do, make 2 Blorbs. Then, if you control 10 or more Blorbs, destroy Blorb Hive and forge a key at no cost." Your deck does not contain a token creature reference card, so when you use Blorb Hive's Omni: ability, it destroys a friendly creature, but it cannot make 2 Blorbs.
Token Creature FAQ
When I make one or more token creatures, can I look at both sides of each card before I place it in my battleline?
No. The card is not a token creature until it is in play in your battleline. Only then can you look at the reverse side of the card.
Getting Started with Winds of Exchange
Just as with earlier sets, there are plenty of ways to get started playing KeyForge with Winds of Exchange. Each Winds of Exchange Archon Deck contains a single, ready-to-play 36-card deck, bringing together three of the diverse Houses of the Crucible into a single deck — unique from every other Archon Deck in existence. If you're getting into the game for the first time, the Winds of Exchange Two-Player Starter Set offers two decks and everything you need for you and your opponent to start playing right away.
Each Winds of Exchange deck is composed of cards from three Houses drawn from the current KeyForge cardpool, exactly as with every other KeyForge set — see "The Houses of the Crucible" and "Game Setup" in the core rulebook. As with every KeyForge set, every card in the Winds of Exchange cardpool carries the Winds of Exchange set icon near its rarity symbol, and every Winds of Exchange deck includes a token creature reference card in addition to its usual complement of cards, key tokens, and other reference cards.
