Setup
Apply the "Boss" sticker to the white side of two Explorer markers in your Kero game, matching the characters on each marker.
At the start of the game, the players decide together whether to use the "Boss" side or the "Normal" side of the Explorer markers.
If you play with the "Boss" side, your clan will have 7 Explorer markers, one of which (the Boss) shows a "Boss" sticker.

Boss Marker Rules
Each Boss can be used once per game. Until its ability is activated, it is played with the "Boss" side showing (i.e. the yellow side). Once its ability has been activated, it is flipped to the "normal" side and becomes an ordinary "Explorer" with no special abilities.
Bosses are played like any other Explorer during the game, but they have special abilities that can be activated when determining majorities at the end of a turn (after a Claim card has been revealed):
Once per game, in the event of a tie, you may use the Boss to break it and win the New Territory card on which it is placed. Simply inform your opponent that you decide to activate the Boss's ability while the New Territories are being distributed. Then collect your New Territory, flip your Boss marker to its "normal" side and return it to your camp, together with all the other Explorers placed on the same New Territory. You will no longer be able to use the Boss's ability during this game.
F.A.Q.
Can I place a Boss on a New Territory already occupied by another Boss?
Yes, you can. However, if both clans have the same number of Explorers on the New Territory (including Bosses) at the end of the turn, they will again be tied and neither clan will win the New Territory. In this case, the New Territory is discarded, the Bosses are turned over to their "normal" side, and all Explorers return to their respective camps.
Can I use a Permanent Ability on a New Territory where a Boss has been placed?
No, you cannot use a Permanent Ability on a New Territory occupied by a Boss.
Translation notes (disclosed deviations):
- The sheet calls the card that triggers majority scoring a "carta Richiesta" (Request card). The English base rulebook calls it a "Claim card", and that term is used here.
