  • Karty Dżentelmenów (base variant): for 3–15 players
  • Dżentelmeńskie Opowieści (second variant): for 2–15 players
  • Recommended age: 18+
  • Suggested playing time: 30+ minutes
  • Warning: the game contains uncensored (profane) texts.

Karty Dżentelmenów (Base Variant)

  1. Place the face-down, shuffled decks of White Cards and Black Cards in the middle of the table. Each player takes a set of 10 White Cards.
  2. The tallest player becomes the Gentleman or Milady, reveals one Black Card, and reads its question aloud.
  3. The other players choose the funniest answer from their 10 White Cards and pass it face down to the Gentleman. Note. When the question requires more than one answer, each player prepares their own face-down packet of White Cards, stacking them. The lowest card in the stack is read first and the highest card last.
  4. The Gentleman reads the question and the collected answers from all the White Cards aloud. For better effect, alternate between reading the question and reading the answers.
  5. The Gentleman chooses, at their own discretion, the best answer and gives its owner the Black Card. Used White Cards may not be reused by players. The Gentleman places them on the discard pile.
  6. After the discarded answers are collected, each player tops up their set of 10 White Cards by drawing from the face-down deck of White Cards.
  7. The next Gentleman is the next player, chosen clockwise, who reads a new Black Card aloud.
  8. The game may end at any time. The player with the most Black Cards wins.

Dżentelmeńskie Opowieści (Second Variant)

  1. A shuffled, face-down deck of White Cards is laid out in the middle of the table. Each player takes a set of 5 White Cards.
  2. The tallest player becomes the Gentleman or Milady and solemnly begins the game.
  3. The Gentleman chooses any card from their 5 White Cards and says the first sentence of a story aloud, using the phrase printed on the chosen card. The phrase may be inflected (declined through the grammatical cases). Note. Used White Cards may not be reused by players. No cards are drawn in this variant.
  4. The next Gentleman is the next player, chosen clockwise. They continue the story of their predecessor, weaving in a phrase of their choice from their own White Cards.
  5. When a player is unable to continue the story, they receive a Penalty Point and begin a new story. The other players continue the new story.
  6. The game ends when each player has used all of their White Cards.
  7. The player with the most Penalty Points loses.

Sample Story Opening

The sheet shows three example White Cards with their phrases, illustrating how a story is built from one card per line:

  • "Byli sobie..." ("Once upon a time there were...") followed by the card "Niemcy." ("Germans.")
  • "...którzy zjedli..." ("...who ate...") followed by the card "Budyń." ("Pudding.")
  • "...i krzyknęli..." ("...and shouted...") followed by the card "Allahu akbar!"

The decorative sample Black and White Card illustrations on the sheet are artwork and are not transcribed.
