Game Components
- 1 game board
- 12 camels (3 camels x 4 colors)
- 48 cards (4 decks x 12 cards)
- 1 rulebook
Object of the Game
Try to bring your camels to the oasis as quickly as possible. On the way you will have to think carefully about which card to play on a given turn, so that your camels can overtake your opponents'. However, an unexpected sandstorm can completely ruin your plans. The first six camels to reach the oasis earn points for their owners. The goal of the game is to score the most points.
Setup
Place the game board in the center of the table. Each player takes 3 camels of one color and places them in the city on the game board - this is the starting position.
Take the deck of cards (12 cards) of the same color as your camels, shuffle the cards and place the deck in front of you face down. Take the top 3 cards into your hand.
If there are fewer than 4 players, put the remaining cards and camels back in the box.
Course of Play
The game is started by the player who has seen a real mirage. If there is none, the youngest player starts. Then the turn passes to the next player clockwise.
On your turn, play one card from your hand, placing it face up in front of you.
Card Values
The deck contains four types of cards: "oasis", "mirage", "camel driver" and "sandstorm".
"Oasis" cards: Move one of your camels forward as many squares as there are palm trees shown on the card (1 to 4).
"Mirage" cards: Move an opponent's camel back as many squares as there are palm trees shown on the card (1 to 3).
"Camel driver" cards: Move one of your camels to the square one ahead of the race leader (that is, to the head of the whole caravan).
"Sandstorm" cards: When this card is played, every player shuffles all 12 cards of their deck again, places the deck in front of them face down, and takes the top 3 cards into their hand.
After a card is played, the turn passes to the next player.
Important Notes
- Only one camel may stand on a square of the track. When moving a camel forward or backward, only free squares are counted. Thus, when moving backward, a camel may even return to the city (the starting position).
- A camel that has reached the oasis cannot be moved backward.
- The oasis squares must be reached by an exact count. A camel cannot be moved past the last oasis square.
- It is forbidden to use a "camel driver" card to move your camel into the oasis.
- After playing a card from your hand, the player draws one card from their deck into their hand. A player must always have 3 cards in hand.
- If a player's deck has run out, the player continues the game only with the cards remaining in their hand.
- Played cards are placed in a discard pile in front of the player, face up.
End of the Game
The game ends as soon as all six oasis squares are occupied by camels. Players count their points for each occupied oasis square.
The player with the most points is declared the winner. If several players have an equal number of points, there are several winners.
