Setup
Besides the game and a few willing fellow players, you need nothing else for Kampf gegen das Spiessertum. A table with chairs would be practical, but it is not a must — in a pinch, the game can also be played wonderfully on the floor.
Shuffle the cards and place a face-down stack of yellow cards and a face-down stack of white cards in the middle. Each scoundrel (player) receives eight white answer cards, and — if playing with the drinking-game rule — also a drink.
Now the owner of the game may decide: who is the most wicked scoundrel? That player becomes the round boss and gets to draw the first card from the yellow question stack.
Basic Rules
The round boss reads the fill-in-the-blank text on the yellow card aloud. Now it is the players' turn. Each scoundrel must choose an answer from their eight cards that fills the blank on the question card. Choose the card that fits perfectly, is the funniest, or that you believe will land best with the round boss. All cards are handed to the round boss face down. If a question card has several blanks, the matching number of answer cards must be played.
Without knowing which scoundrel a given card came from, the round boss reads all of the received answers aloud. The round boss holds the power and gets to decide, for this round, which of the answers is their favorite. The winner receives the yellow card as a trophy to show off.
All scoundrels draw new cards from the answer stack until each is holding eight again. The next player clockwise becomes the new round boss, and the fun starts over from the beginning. Muahaha!
Card Exchange
If a player notices that they have played all of their funny answer cards and is unhappy with their hand, they may sit out a round and exchange the cards in their hand. The scoundrel draws eight new cards from the white stack and discards the old ones. If playing with the drinking-game rule, exchanging cards also requires taking a drink or a shot.
Drinking-Game Rule
Anyone playing Kampf gegen das Spiessertum at a boozy party has the option of making even more enemies with the drinking-game version. Here, in addition to the best answer, the round boss also chooses the one they consider the worst or most boring. The corresponding player must take a drink or a shot for their poor sense of humor. This small additional rule has a big effect: the more drinks that are consumed, the nastier and funnier the answers become.
Player Count and Game Length
Kampf gegen das Spiessertum can wonderfully be played with three to eight players. If even more people want to join in, groups can be formed to compete against each other.
Game length adapts to whatever the players need. The players decide whether it should be just a short round or a whole evening. Either a number of trophies (yellow cards) is set that the winner must reach, or a time limit is set. It can also simply be played until no question cards remain, or until the first person at the table can't go on any more.
Objective
The objective of the game is very simple: whoever collects the most question cards as trophies, wins. How you achieve that is up to you. Put yourself in the round boss's shoes, read their mind, and strategically play the card you believe will land well with them — or trust your irresistible sense of humor and choose your personal favorite answer. Especially cunning scoundrels play their opponents off against each other and end up the winner.
