Idea and Goal

Players play cards from their hands and thereby claim the coloured fields on the game board. A player wins as soon as they hold four fields in a row (horizontally, vertically or diagonally). If nobody wins within 20 rounds, the winner is the player who holds the largest area (fields adjacent horizontally and vertically).

Components

  • 1 game board made up of 36 coloured fields
  • 60 cards (10 each of six colours)
  • 80 stones (20 stones of each colour)

Setup

  • Lay out the game board.
  • Each player takes their stones.
  • Shuffle the card deck and deal each player 7 cards.
  • Place the remaining cards face down next to the board as a draw deck.

Playing the Game

On their turn, each player may play one or more of their cards of ONE colour in order to place ONE of their stones on the field that matches the colour of the cards played. Then they draw cards from the deck until they have 7 again.

  1. Play one or more cards. The player must play at least one card, but may play up to seven cards. The played cards are placed face up next to the deck, in a discard pile. If the field is empty, one card is enough. If opponents' stones are already on the field, the player must play ONE card more than the number of stones already standing on the field.

Example: A tower of 2 stones stands on the green field. The player must play 3 green cards in order to place one of their stones on top of the tower and claim this field.

  2. Place a stone. On their turn each player places only one stone, putting it on an empty field or on top of another stone, thereby claiming that field. Any player may place their stone on any field, provided they have enough cards to do so. Stones are placed in a "tower", one on top of another. A tower belongs to the player whose stone is on its top.

  3. Draw cards from the deck. After placing a stone, the player draws from the deck as many cards as they played, i.e. they bring their hand back up to 7 cards. When the deck runs out, all cards in the discard pile are shuffled to form a new deck.

Additional Rules

If a player does not have enough cards of any one colour to place a stone, they must exchange all of their cards. They show their cards to the opponent, who must confirm that the player cannot make a move, and then the player discards their cards. Then they take 7 new cards from the deck, return one of their unused stones to the box (that stone is out of the game), and skip their turn.

End of the Game

The game continues until one player wins or until the stones run out. The game ends when a player lines up four of their stones in a row (horizontally, vertically or diagonally).

Scoring After 20 Rounds

If nobody has won after 20 rounds, the player who holds the largest area, consisting of fields adjacent horizontally or vertically, wins. If two players hold areas of the same size, the player who has more stones placed in their area wins.

[Diagram: final board example.]

  • Red player holds 5 fields
  • Green player holds 4 fields
  • Blue player holds 3 fields
  • Yellow player holds 2 fields

The red player wins.

Variant

Instead of 4 stones in a row, the player must line up 5 stones in a row.
