Objective
Players play cards from their hand to the center of the table, aiming to have the LOWEST score at the end of the game.
Components
- 80 Cards
- 48 Simple Chili Cards: 4 numbers (1-4) x 3 cards per color
- 16 Spicy Chili Cards: 4 numbers (1-4) x 1 card per color
- 8 Fork Cards: 2 cards per color
- 4 Color Trash Can Cards: 1 card per color
- 1 Hot Sauce Card
- 2 Pickled Chilies Cards
- 1 Multicolor Trash Can Card
Set Up
- Shuffle the 80 cards and deal 3 cards to each player as their hand. Keep your hand hidden from other players.
- Place the remaining cards face-down in the center to form the Draw Pile.
Game Play
The game proceeds clockwise. The player who dares to start begins the first turn.
On your turn, play 1 or 2 cards from your hand face-up in the center (the Game Zone).
Each time a card is played, check if any of the following conditions are met:
- 4 Cards of The Same Color
- 4 Cards of The Same Number
If a condition is met, take all the affected cards and place them face-up in front of you to form your Scoring Zone. Organize cards by color in columns so everyone can easily count them.
After playing your chosen cards, draw from the pile until you have 3 cards in hand again. Your turn then ends.
IMPORTANT: Multiple conditions can be met simultaneously. In this case, take all cards involved in every fulfilled condition.
Example: Zenta plays a Red 1. Since there are now four Red cards and four Number 1 cards in the Game Zone, she takes all of them. Cards that don't meet any condition (like two Green 3s) remain in the Game Zone.
Card Types
Simple Chili — The basic card. Worth 1 point. Colors: Yellow, Red, Green, Black. Numbers: 1-4.
Spicy Chili — A "spicy" version of the basic card. Worth 2 points. These have flames surrounding the chili.
Color Trash Can — When played, discard all cards of that color from the Game Zone along with this card. Discarded cards are removed from the game.
Multicolor Trash Can — When played, discard all colored cards from the Game Zone along with this card. The Hot Sauce is NOT discarded (as it has no color).
Hot Sauce — Has no color. While in the Game Zone, it represents all numbers (1-4) simultaneously. In the Scoring Zone, keep it separate from other cards. Worth 1 point.
Pickled Chilies — Has no number. While in the Game Zone, it represents all colors simultaneously. At the end of the game, you must assign it to one color column in your Scoring Zone. Worth 1 point.
Fork — Has no number, only a color. Worth 1 point. If the "4 cards of the same color" condition is met with one or more Fork cards, the following Fork effect is triggered:
Fork Effect
Fork Effect: The player to the left of the current player must take all affected cards into their Scoring Zone.
Example 1: Zenta played a Red fork. There are now 4 Red cards in the Game Zone. Due to the Fork effect, the player to Zenta's left, Mateo, takes those 4 cards.
Example 2: Zenta played a Red 3. There are now 4 Red cards and 4 number 3 cards in the Game Zone. Due to the Fork effect, the player to Zenta's left, Mateo, takes those 6 cards.
Defending with a Fork: If you are forced to take cards by one or more fork cards, you may immediately play a Fork of any color from your hand to pass the cards (and your Fork) to the next player on your left.
This continues until someone cannot or chooses not to play a Fork. That player takes all the cards, including all Forks used in the chain.
Example 3: On Zenta's turn, the Fork effect is triggered. Mateo, to Zenta's left, plays a Fork from his hand to defend. Heidi, to Mateo's left, does not play a Fork and takes all affected cards, including Mateo's Fork used in the chain.
※ NOTE ※
After the Fork effect is resolved, the current player finishes any remaining part of their turn (such as playing their second card and refilling their hand to 3 cards). A player who defended with a Fork starts their next turn with fewer cards in hand, but they replenish their hand at the end of that turn.
End of Game
The game ends when the Draw Pile is exhausted and every player has taken one final turn. Any cards left in hands or the Game Zone are discarded. Players with Pickled Chilies simultaneously choose color columns in their Scoring Zone and assign their Pickled Chilies to them. A player with both Pickled Chilies may assign them both to the same color column or to different color columns.
Scoring
Calculate your total score from your Scoring Zone:
- +1 Point: Simple Chili, Fork, Pickled Chilies, Hot Sauce.
- +2 Points: Spicy Chili
- -10 Points: The player(s) with the fewest total cards in their Scoring Zone.
- -X Points: Color Majority: If you have the most cards of a specific color (and no one else ties for that majority), you subtract the points for that color instead of adding them. This applies to only one color of your choice if you have the majority in several.
- ※ Holding the majority in multiple colors still prevents other players from claiming the benefits for any of those disputed colors.
The player with the lowest score wins.
※ NOTE ※
Tied players share the victory. If desired, all players may play another game to determine a winner.
Example: Mateo has the fewest cards (4 cards) in his Scoring Zone, so he subtracts 10 points. In the Green majority, Mateo and Heidi are tied, so no one subtracts points for Green. Zenta has the color majority in Black, Red, and Yellow. However, since only one color can be chosen, Zenta chooses Black and subtracts points for that color.
- Mateo: 5 - 10 = -5
- Heidi: 5 + 1 = 6
- Zenta: -4 + 1 + 2 = -1
Special Mode
2-Player Mode
Remove all 19 cards of one color (including its 2 Forks and 1 Trash Can). The "-10 points for fewest cards" rule is not used.
Sole Mode
Goal: Compete against the Draw Pile to get the lowest score.
Set Up: Remove one color (19 cards).
Game-play: After your turn, the Draw Pile plays by drawing the same number of cards you played. If the Draw Pile meets a condition, it takes those cards into its own Scoring Zone.
End of Game: The game ends immediately when the last card is drawn from the draw pile.
Scoring:
- Whether a player has the most cards of a color is determined by comparing with the draw pile's scoring area.
- The draw pile's score is not counted; only the player's score is calculated.
※ You can defend with a Fork, but the Draw Pile cannot.
Ranks are assigned based on the score achieved, as follows:
- 1 to 15 → Chili
- 0 to -14 → Salsa
- -15 or less → Habanero
- 0 cards in Scoring Zone → Carolina Reaper
Tournament Mode
Play 3 games (or an agreed amount) and sum the scores. The lowest total score wins.
Simple Mode
No bonuses (-10 points or Color Majority). Simply sum the points in your Scoring Zone. Great for kids 6+ or for your first game.
