Contents

  • 32 animal tiles (4 kinds of animal: elephant, giraffe, monkey and zebra. Each animal can be shown looking straight ahead, looking up, looking down, or with its eyes closed. Animals looking in the same direction appear in pairs.)
  • 4 lion tiles (the lion is made up of 4 tiles)
  • 6 character tiles
  • 1 totem
  • 1 pouch
  • 1 rulebook (instructions)

Setup

Place the totem in the middle of the table.

Shuffle the animal tiles and the lion tiles together (36 tiles in total) and spread them face down around the totem.

Deal each player one character tile. Each player places their character tile in front of them, colored side up.

Playing the Game

The youngest player starts the game by revealing one of the tiles.

Note! When you reveal a tile, remember to turn it toward the other players, so that they are the ones who see the animal first. Turning the tile toward yourself is not allowed (marked "NO" on the rulebook illustration; turning it toward the other players is marked "YES").

Once everyone has looked closely at the tile, turn it face down again.

Now the players take turns, clockwise, revealing one tile each.

When a tile is revealed, each player may catch the totem if they believe they know where an animal of the same species is hidden.

Only the player who caught the totem may indicate which tile, according to them, hides an animal of the same species as the revealed tile. They then place the totem on the hidden tile and reveal it.

  • If it really is an animal of the same species, the player takes both tiles and places them next to their character tile.
  • If the species are different, the player turns their character tile over to its frozen side and cannot catch the totem for a moment. They can, however, keep remembering the tiles revealed by the other players! Both animal tiles are turned face down again.

The game resumes. The player sitting to the left of the player who caught the totem reveals the next tile, and so on.

If a frozen player accidentally grabs the totem, they simply put it back in its place and the game continues.

Unfreezing a Player

There are two ways to unfreeze a player:

  1. During their turn, a player may turn their character tile to its colored side instead of revealing an animal tile. Then they may try to catch the totem again!
  2. When someone turns over a lion tile, every frozen player immediately turns their character tile to its colored side and may try to catch the totem!

End of the Game

Each time someone reveals one of the 4 lion tiles, they must place the revealed lion tile next to the totem. The lion will appear gradually, piece by piece, announcing its return to the jungle.

The game ends the moment the fourth and last tile forming the lion is revealed!

Animals that have not yet been rescued remain hidden – they are destined to be prey for the maned predator!

The player with the largest pile of collected tiles wins! In case of a tie, the tied players share the victory!

Variant 1: "Can These Eyes Lie?" (ages 5 and up)

In this variant, attention is paid only to the animals' eyes – you must find tiles with animals looking in the same direction (or with their eyes closed). The animals do not need to be of the same species. Apart from that, the rules do not change.

You must be very attentive and remember the direction in which the animals are looking!

Variant 2: "King of the Jungle" (ages 6 and up)

Players reveal tiles in turn and do not cover them, so there will be more and more revealed tiles on the table.

When someone believes that 2 revealed tiles are identical (they show animals of the same species looking in the same direction), they must catch the totem and immediately place it on one of those tiles, while indicating the second tile of the pair.

  • If the player is right, they win both tiles and place them in a pile next to their character tile.
  • If the player is wrong, they turn their character tile over to the frozen side.

Apart from that, the rules do not change.
