- 192 riddles (cards)
- 1 pencil
- Score sheets
- 1 sand timer
Objective
Be the team that has accumulated the most points at the end of the fifth round.
Setup
- Place a score sheet, the sand timer and the riddle box within reach of all players.
- Split the players into two teams.
- Choose the team that will start the game.
Game Master
The team about to play designates one of its teammates as its game master, who may change from one round to the next.
The game master is the person who draws the riddles, reads them aloud and answers the questions their team asks with "yes", "no" or "not relevant". Wrong answers are not penalised.
Playing a Round
Teams take turns and proceed as follows:
- The game master turns over the sand timer, draws a first card, reads the first clue aloud and answers their team's questions.
- A correct answer gives 3 points.
- If needed, the game master reads the second clue and answers their team's questions.
- A correct answer gives 1 point.
- The team may decide to drop the card and move on to the next riddle.
- The team loses 1 point.
Each time a card is solved or dropped, the game master makes a mark in the corresponding box of the score sheet.
The team's turn continues until the sand timer has run out. At the end of the turn, the team calculates the points accumulated during the round and writes the total on the score sheet. Then it is the next team's turn.
IMPORTANT: The team may ask the game master an unlimited number of questions, but watch the time that runs out!
Example questions and answers, using the example card "Le maïs soufflé":
- Is it dangerous? NO
- Is there one in the house? YES
- Is it edible? YES
- Can it start a fire? NOT RELEVANT
The example card shows: Clue 1 (3 pts): "It explodes under heat." Clue 2 (1 pt): "It is a good companion at the cinema." Answer: "Le maïs soufflé" (popcorn).
End of the Game
The game ends at the end of the fifth round. The team with the most accumulated points wins the game.
Variant
Two players: There are no teams. Each player takes on the role of game master for the other, taking turns.
