Goal of the Game

Score the most points by answering questions... out of step.

Setup

  • Shuffle the cards and stack them.
  • Put the sandtimer on the table.
  • Form 2 teams.

Note: if you are 3 players, the adjustments are given at the end of the rules.

Gameplay

  1. One player (the reader) draws a card in order to ask questions to a member of their team. A member of the opposing team sits next to the reader to check the answers that will be given.

  2. The reader reads aloud the title of each side of the card, then lets their partner choose one or the other. The reader does not read the questions yet.

  3. As soon as their partner is ready, the reader reads the questions aloud to them in order. Careful: at the end of the 1st question there is no answer to give, but the sandtimer is turned over. The player answers the questions out of step: they must always give the answer to the previous question. When their partner asks the 2nd question, they give the answer to the 1st. When asked the 3rd question, they give the answer to the 2nd, and so on...

Example (card "Hairy or feathered?", questions: 1 a fox, 2 a duck, 3 a pink flamingo...): "A duck?" - "Hairy!" (the fox). "A pink flamingo?" - "Feathered!" (the duck). And so on...

  4. On a mistake or when the sandtimer runs out, both players stop immediately. The team wins points according to the stage reached. If the reader stopped:

    • after number 1: 1 point
    • after number 2: 2 points
    • after number 3 (last answer): 3 points

Example: "Jeff made a mistake there, he wins 2 points."

To keep track of the score, you can note the points somewhere, use unplayed cards from the draw pile, or hand out candies.

Note: because of the offset, the last question is not answered, but its answer is printed on the card for information.

  5. Roles change for the next card: a member of the opposing team becomes the reader for one of their partners, and play proceeds as described above.

Last Card

For the 5th and last card of each team, the points won are doubled!

Clarifications on Answers

  • Answers written in italics are not words to be spoken but a description (of a mime, a sound effect, etc.).
  • Some questions have several correct answers. Not all are written on the cards. It is up to the player checking (and all the players if needed) to judge whether a given answer is valid or not.

End of the Game

As soon as 10 cards have been played, the game stops. The team with the most points wins!

With 3 Players

Make the following adjustments:

  • Each player plays individually, not in teams.
  • On each card, the points won go in full to both the reader and the player giving the answers (between 0 and 3 points each).
  • After each card, the roles rotate this way: the reader becomes the player who gives the answers, the player who gave the answers becomes the player who checks, and the one who was checking becomes the reader.
  • The game ends after 9 cards have been played.
