Game Overview

In It's Mine, players build gangs of thieves by playing cards that represent major crooks and illegal Actions. In each of the six rounds, players place different criminals in the three Districts of the city. Players can increase their influence on the Districts by accumulating there Action cards. However, only the most powerful gang in each District will take over it and earn a valuable reward. Some of the burglars also have some special skills that will help each player to obtain victory points. In addition, players can collect art pieces which will provide them extra victory points at the end of the game. Finally, the player whose gang scores the most victory points will be the winner.

  • 28 District cards
  • 27 Boss cards
  • 54 Action cards
  • 1 Axis card

Note: The cards and their icons are explained in the last pages of this manual.

Setting Up the Game

  1. Choose your City: Choose one city among the 4 available in the game. Return those cards which have a city icon different to the one representing your city to the game box. These cards will not be used in the game.
  2. Build the Decks: Build 3 different decks: one containing District cards, one with Boss cards and finally a third one with Action cards. Each kind of card has a different backside: Grey colour for District cards. White colour for Boss cards. Multicolour for Action cards. Shuffle each deck and place them face-down on the table.
  3. Determine the 3 Districts of the game: Draw 3 random cards from the District deck and check if the following condition is met: at least 1 card of the set must have the icon belonging to the chosen city and at least 1 card of the set must have no city icon. If this condition is not fulfilled, return the 3 cards to the District deck, shuffle the deck and draw again 3 cards. Repeat the previous steps while the condition enumerated before is not satisfied. Note: At the end of the game, victory points will be awarded to the player who controls each of the 3 Districts. Furthermore, some Districts produce certain effects during the game, as indicated, if present, by the icons at the upper right corner of the District cards.
  4. Place the 3 District cards face-up in middle of table forming a horizontal line, which will delimit each player's area. Each of these two areas are divided into 3 additional zones, one for each District. The players will play Boss and Action cards in each of their own District zones. Note: Leave enough space between each of the 3 District cards.
  5. Return the District deck to the game box as the rest of the District cards will not be used in the game.
  6. Each player receives a side token (white or black). The player possessing the white token is the white player and the one who has the black token is the black player.
  7. Place the Axis card with the face containing the round track up at one end of the District line. The card has a total of 6 squares, one for each round of the game. The colour of the side token close to each square shows who will be the initial player in that round.
  8. Place a white cube on the first round square (the one containing number 4) of the round track.

Cities

There are 4 cities in the game: Rome, Paris, London and Barcelona. Each card belonging to a city has the city icon on its lower right corner.

Note: we recommend you to play with Rome in your first game.

  • Rome: The gang wars are more violent.
  • Paris: Artwork cards are more valuable.
  • London: Wear your opponent's economy down.
  • Barcelona: Play cards from your discard area and build more advanced combos.

Playing the Game

In the game, the players might build up to 3 rows in each of his own District areas. Every row will contain 1 Boss card and additionally a maximum of 3 Action cards.

The game is played over 6 rounds. There are two different types of rounds: Action and Boss rounds. The type of each round is determined by the colour of the round square in the round track. If it is multicoloured, the round is an Action round, otherwise, it is a Boss round.

Each round consist of 2 phases carried out in the following order:

  1. Filling the hand.
  2. Playing turns.

Filling the hand

Both players draw from the top of a concrete deck as many face-down cards as indicated by the number present in the current round square. If it is an Action round all the cards must be drawn from the Action deck. Otherwise, they must be drawn from the Boss deck. These cards are the player's hand for the round.

Example: The first round of the game is a Boss round, so every player draws 4 cards from the Boss deck. In the next round, each player draws 6 cards from the Action deck since it is an Action round.

Playing turns

  1. In order, starting with the first player, players take 1 card from their hands and play it. The first player of each round is determined by the colour of the side icon (white or black) close to each square of the round track.

Example: In the first round the first player is the white player since the side icon for this round is the white one. In the next round, the black player will be the first player.

    a. In all Boss rounds, a player places a Boss card face-up in one of his 3 District areas. This card cannot be placed on top of another Boss or Action card. Furthermore, each player's District area cannot house more than 3 Boss cards.

    b. In all Action rounds, a player can play an Action card in one of his 3 District areas or discard it: If a card is played, it will be placed face-up on top of a Boss card or on top of another Action card previously placed on a Boss card, leaving the icons of all cards visible. A player cannot place more than 3 Action cards on a particular Boss card.

If a card is discarded, it is placed face-up in the player's discard area in the Axis card (two different rows: one for Boss cards and another for Action cards). Then, the player receives 1 casino token from the general supply. If there is no tokens in the general supply, the player is allowed to take it from his opponent as long as he has less tokens than his opponent.

Note: Some Action cards require you to pay an amount of casino tokens to place them on your playing area. If you do not have enough tokens you are not able to play it. However, you can discard it.

Important: Some cards produce immediate effects, especially those providing casino tokens or those which allow a player burn an opponent card.

  2. Once both players have played 1 card from their hands, players swap their hands.

Example: Ana, the first player, places a Boss card in one of her district areas. Then, Xavi places a Boss card in one of his District area. After, Ana and Xavi swap their hands.

  3. After swapping their hands, if both players have more than 2 cards in their hands, then the first player starts a new turn following the previous instructions.

  4. However, when there are only 2 cards left in their hands, the players play their last turn. In this turn, starting with the first player, a player plays 1 card and at the same time discards the other, placing it face-up in his discard area. The player does not receive 1 casino token when discarding the last card of their hand.

End of the Game: Controlling Districts and Scoring

The scoring process to determine the winner of the game consist of two steps:

1. Determining who controls every District

Both players count the number of mask symbols each one has accumulated in a particular District. There are multiple ways of obtaining masks; see cards description at the end of this manual for more details.

  • A player receives an extra mask in a particular District for each Boss card there with 3 Action cards on it.
  • The player with the most mask symbols turns the District card the right way up. This indicates that he controls the District. If the District card has a flame icon on its upper left corner (e.g. Sagrada Familia card), the burning action is executed now.
  • However, if both players possess the same number of masks, no one controls the District and the card is not rotated.

Gang Wars example: The upper player receives 1 mask as he has 1 set containing a blue and a green card (income of Boss B), 1 mask for the income of his blue Action card 2 and finally 1 mask for the income of his brown Action card 1 (player has three different Action cards). Furthermore, he receives 2 extra masks due to the Cappella Sistina District card income (one mask for each green card). The player does not receive any extra masks for Boss A or B because they have no 3 Action cards on them. The player has a total of 5 masks.

The lower player receives 1 mask for his Boss C income, 2 more masks for his blue Action card 3 (one for each opponent Boss card) and 1 mask for his brown Action card 4 (one mask for each blue card on his District area). As the player has 3 Action cards on his Boss C, he gains 1 extra mask. Finally, he receives 1 more mask for the District income. This player has 6 masks, so he controls the District card, turning it the right way up.

For more details about the cards, see the card descriptions below.

2. Scoring victory points

Flip the Axis card. Now, 2 score tracks are visible. In addition, 4 spaces, indicating the different categories for which each player scores victory points, are also revealed. Each player puts two white cubes on his score track.

  • The golden coins present in some cards denote victory points.
  • The player with the highest total of victory points is the winner of the game. In case of a tie, the player with the highest number of casino tokens wins. If there is still a tie, the white player wins.

Scoring Districts: Each player scores the victory points awarded by the Districts he controls. These points are shown on the upper left corner of the District card. In the previous example, the lower player controls Cappella Sistina, so he receives 6 points and 1 extra point for each green Action card in his opponent District area (see the upper left corner of the District card). This player scores a total of 8 points. However, the upper player score no points as he does not control the District.

Scoring Boss Cards: Each player scores the points awarded by his Boss cards. In the previous example, the upper player Boss cards does not award any points. However, the player at the bottom receives 2 points (1 point for every opponent Boss card in the District) for his Boss card.

Scoring Action Cards: Each player scores the points awarded by his Action cards. In the previous example, the upper player receives 1 point for his blue Action card.

Scoring Art Pieces: There are 3 different art pieces: paintings, antiques and jewellery. Each player forms different sets with the art piece cards present in all of his District areas. Each set can contain 1, 2 or three different cards. If a set has more than 1 card, all art pieces must be different.

  • 1 piece: 1 point
  • 2 pieces: 3 points
  • 3 pieces: 7 points

Example: Two paintings and a jewel form two distinct sets: one containing 2 cards (painting and jewel) and another containing 1 card (painting). Thus, the player scores 3 + 1 = 4 points.

Arrows

The arrows in a card indicate the District area where the card effect must be applied. A downwards arrow denotes all cards in your District area, while an upwards arrow denotes all cards in your opponent District area.

Example: When activating the effect of a card and to know the income it provides, you have to consider all cards in your District area. Thus, the player receives 1 mask for possessing the green Action card on the left side.

Burning cards

Only those cards on the top of each row can be burnt. When you burnt a card, you turn it over and it remains face-down the rest of the game. A burnt card loses its effects and provides no income. However, this card is considered when checking if the maximum number of cards in a row has been reached.

FAQ

What happens if I have to receive some tokens and there are not enough in the general supply? Take all the tokens available in the supply and then take one token at a time from your opponent supply while you possess less tokens than him.

Which Action cards can be burnt? Only those on the top of each row. If the top most card of a given row is already burnt, you are not able to burn more Action cards from that row. (If the last Action card of a pile has been burnt, you cannot burn the next one: it is still considered to have a card on top, even though it is turned over.)

Can I place Action cards on top of a burnt Boss card? Yes. That Boss can still host up to 3 Action cards. (A burnt Boss can also have actions on itself; it has simply lost its effects.)

Can I place Action cards on top of a burnt Action card? You can place it as long as there are less than 3 Action Cards in that row.

There are some Action cards which require revealing my hand. Does it mean I have to show all the cards in my hand to my opponent? Yes. (You must show your whole hand until the opponent agrees.)

I want to play an Action card with no cost in a District that allows me to place an Action card for one less token. Do I receive one token from the general supply? No.

If I am playing in Barcelona, when can I start taking cards from my discard area? You can start playing cards from there as soon as a card which enables you taking cards from your discard area is on the table. (For District cards, these effects can be used from the start of the game.)

Does a card with two colours count twice? No, the owner chooses which colour applies at each time, but still counts as a single card.

  • Create a general supply with the 10 casino tokens and another with the remaining white cubes.
