Basic Mode: How to Play "Kumo no Ito 2.0"
Everyone is on the same team in this cooperative game. You succeed if you can correctly lay out the number cards in ascending order.
Setup
- Each player takes 3 crystals of their own color.
- Shuffle all of the number cards, 1 through 100, together to make a draw pile.
- Draw cards from the pile one at a time so that each player has a hand of cards.
- Shuffle all 20 topic cards together.
- Place the topic frame on the table.
- Place a zero tile in the center of the table, leaving space to lay out cards, and begin the game!
Flow of Play
-
Draw one card from the topic card pile. Everyone discusses which topic looks easy to talk about and chooses one together.
-
"Liken" the number on your hand card to a word that fits the chosen topic. When doing this, you must not say the number on the card itself, or show the card to anyone.
There is exactly one card for each number from 1 to 100. Think of the space immediately to the right of the zero tile as "1" and the far end as "100," and lay the cards face down from left to right in ascending order.
Place one of your own crystals on any number card you lay out. The color of crystal remaining in your hand marks who played which card. Cards that have been laid out may be reordered as much as you like, and you may "re-liken" your card as many times as you like.
-
Once everyone thinks the cards are arranged in ascending order, everyone declares the arrangement "complete." After this, the order can no longer be changed.
-
Starting from the card closest to the zero tile, turn the number cards face up one at a time. If every card is in ascending order, you succeed!
If even a single card is out of order, everyone fails together. Try changing the topic and challenging the game again and again.
Once you get used to the game, try the "Level-Up Challenge," in which you increase the number of cards in hand to see how many times in a row you can succeed.
Competitive & Cooperative Mode: "Niji no Ito" Rules
"Niji no Ito" is a rule set in which two teams play "Kumo no Ito 2.0" at the same time; the basic flow is the same as "Kumo no Ito 2.0."
You win if your team lays out its number cards with fewer mistakes than the opposing team.
Differences from the "Kumo no Ito 2.0" Rules
- You play divided into two teams. Each team plays "Kumo no Ito 2.0" at the same time, using the same topic.
- You use the hourglass. Whichever team finishes laying out its number cards first flips the hourglass and declares "one minute left!" to the other team. The other team must finish laying out its number cards within the one minute it takes for the sand in the hourglass to fall.
Once both teams have finished laying out their number cards, starting with whichever team finished first, turn the number cards face up one at a time.
If a number is not in ascending order, that is one out. Shift the card that caused the out to one side so it is clearly marked, then continue turning over the next card. You always compare against "the current highest number that is not an out."
Also, when two consecutive numbers such as "55 → 56" are turned face up next to each other, you may cancel out one of your team's outs.
Subtract the consecutive-number bonus from your number of outs; the team with the fewer final outs wins!
