Goal of the Game
Get 6 guests (3 pairs of insects, a pair being two insects of the same species) into your hotel. The first player to fill all the rooms in their hotel wins the game!
Contents
- 4 insect hotels
- 72 cards, including:
- 20 honey cards
- 8 spider cards
- 8 cockroach cards
- 36 insect tourists (bees, ants, flies, ladybirds, butterflies and earwigs)
Setup
Each player takes one insect hotel in the colour of their choice and places it in front of themselves. Shuffle the deck of cards and place it face down in the middle of the table. Leave room for a discard pile. The starting player is the player who was the last to stay in a hotel.
Gameplay
Take turns in clockwise order. Turn over the top card of the main deck, then use it depending on which actions you can take with it (see below). If you decide you do not want to take another card, your turn ends and the next player continues the game.
On your turn you have a choice:
- Use honey cards you collected earlier to lure an insect (see: Luring insects: F). Your turn then ends automatically. The next player takes their turn.
- Or turn over the top card of the deck (see: Turning over cards: A to E).
AND
- If your turn has not ended automatically, you may draw another card or pass.
If you pass, your turn ends and the next player continues the game.
Turning over cards
If you decide to take a card from the deck, one of the following situations may occur. (Note! Always show the card you drew to the other players after taking it, so they can remember what is on it.)
- A) If the card shows an insect that can be placed in a hotel, put this card in one of the rooms next to the picture of that insect in the hotel. Your turn ends.
- B) If the card shows an insect that cannot be placed in a hotel, place the card face down next to your hotel. You may continue playing. On later turns, in an analogous situation, place further insects face down on top of one another in a pile.
- C) If you draw a honey card, place it face up next to your hotel. You may continue playing.
- Note: two honey cards are needed to lure one insect. Honey cards collected during one round of play can only be used in later rounds.
- D) If you draw a cockroach card, you lose all the honey cards you have collected (if you have any). Place all the collected honey cards together with the cockroach card on the discard pile in the middle of the table. Your turn ends.
- E) If you draw a spider card, you must scare one insect out of another player's hotel and chase it away from there. Place the frightened insect together with the spider card on the discard pile in the middle of the table. Your turn ends.
- Note: a spider card can scare off only single hotel guests. If two insects of the same species are staying in a hotel, they cannot be scared; shoulder to shoulder, the insects face the spider together. If there are no insects to scare in the other players' hotels, the spider card goes onto the discard pile.
- Example: Two flies are staying in the blue hotel, and one butterfly is in the green hotel. The yellow hotel is still empty. The player running the red hotel draws a spider card. The guests in the blue hotel cannot be scared, because they are a pair of insects of the same species. There are no guests in the yellow hotel that could be scared. Therefore, the player running the red hotel can scare off only the butterfly from the green hotel.
Luring insects
- F) On your turn, before drawing a card, check whether you have two (or more) honey cards that were collected in previous rounds. You may use them to try to lure to your hotel an insect that is in another player's stack of cards, face down.
- If you guess that another player has the appropriate insect, you must name it before you lure it.
- If you guess correctly, take the insect to your hotel. The player who gives you the insect receives one honey card from you. Place the second honey card on the discard pile in the middle of the table.
- If you do not guess correctly, that player still receives one honey card from you. Place the second honey card on the discard pile in the middle of the table. To win the game and be the first to fill your hotel, you must try to remember which insects the other players have in their personal card stacks.
- In both cases your turn ends.
The following note is printed on the front panel of the instructions, above the end-of-game text, and is placed here in sequence.
Note: If the cards in the main deck run out before anyone's hotel is full, gather the cards from the discard pile and from all players' personal stacks. Then shuffle the cards and place them face down in the middle of the table so that new cards can be drawn.
End of the Game
The game ends automatically when one of the players places 6 insects in their hotel. Whoever does so first becomes the winner!
