Aim of the Game

Players take the role of Knights of the Round Table and complete honourable tasks on behalf of the king. In order to successfully complete quests and tournaments, players must try to improve their knightly virtues - courage, strength, skill and wisdom. For every deed done, they are honoured by the king with points.

Preparation

  • Have a pen and paper ready.
  • Place the location cards in any order in a circle.
  • Each player chooses a knight and places it on the outside of the circle next to the location card "Camelot". (If there are any knights left, put them back into the box.)
  • Shuffle the tents. (If you are playing with 3 players, you need the tents 1-3; with 2 players you need tent 1 and 2. If there are any tents left, put them back into the box.) Each player receives one tent and places it in front of him on the table, face up.
  • Place the action cards (back: shield) on the outside of the circle, face up:
    • 2 x "Turnier" (T, tournament) and 2 x "Artus' Tafelrunde" (A, King Arthur's Round Table) next to the location card "Camelot"
    • 4 x "Exerzitium" (E, exercise) individually next to each other and to the tournament cards
    • 4 x "Pferde" (P, horse) individually next to each other on the opposite side,
    • next to the horses 2 x "Gericht" (G, court) and 2 x "Queste" (Q, quest).
  • Shuffle the task cards (back: flag and seal), form a pile and place it in the middle of the circle, face down. Place the first 3 cards next to the pile, face up.
  • Sort the virtue cards (back: flag) according to the individual virtues and place them into four separate virtue piles face up next to the corresponding action cards "Exerzitium" (E):
    • Swords next to "Exerzitium Schwert" (strength)
    • Lances next to "Exerzitium Lanze" (skill)
    • Dragons next to "Exerzitium Drachen" (courage)

How to Play

A game consists of several rounds made up of three phases each:

  • Phase I: To choose an action card
  • Phase II: To carry out the actions
  • Phase III: To assign the tents for the next round and to complete the task cards

Phase I: To choose an action card

During this phase, the players decide which actions they want to carry out in phase II.

  • The player who possesses tent 1 starts.
  • He chooses one of the action cards that are lying on the table (E, A, T, G, Q, P). The location where his knight lays is irrelevant. The other players follow according to the numbers of their tents.
  • As soon as all players have chosen one of the action cards, a second and a third round follow. In every round every player chooses one more card according to the numbers of their tents. If you are playing with two players, there is a fourth round to choose action cards.
  • The players place all their chosen cards in front of them on the table, face up.
  • If there are several action cards of the same kind, a player may take them several times. Exception: A player may take the action card "Turnier" (T) only once during a given round.

Phase II: To carry out the actions

During this phase, the players carry out their actions that they have chosen in phase I.

  • The player whose tent shows the lowest number begins to carry out his or her actions. He or she executes all actions in any order he or she likes and makes note of this points as he or she wins them. Exception: The action "Turnier" (T) is carried out by all the players taking part in it at the end of phase II.
  • A player only may execute a given action if his knight is at the corresponding location (Camelot with the yellow wall or countryside with green leaves).
  • With the action "Pferd" (P) the player can change the location. He can, however, execute his first action in Camelot, than use a horse to go to a location in the country and then carry out his third action there, for example.
  • Actions that a player does not want to or is not able to execute expire and will be put back (for example if a player is at the wrong location or does not possess the necessary virtue cards).
  • As soon as a player has carried out all actions, he puts the action cards back. The only exception to this is the action "Turnier" (T).
  • According to the number of their tents, the remaining players carry out their actions.
  • Once all players have had their turns, the tournament takes place. All the players that have chosen the action card "Turnier" (T) must be at Camelot by the end of phase II. (See the paragraph about the action card "Turnier" to know how to execute the tournament.)

Action Cards

Actions that can only be executed in Camelot (the corresponding action cards are marked with a yellow wall on the border):

  • (E) "Exerzitium: Schwert" (exercise: sword) - The knight trains his strength with sword fights. In the case of this action, the player chooses a card with any value from the virtue pile "Schwert" and takes it in his hand.
  • (E) "Exerzitium: Lanze" (exercise: lance) - The knight trains his skill with aiming at the rings. Choose a card from the virtue pile "Lanze" and take it in your hand.
  • (E) "Exerzitium: Drache" (exercise: dragon) - The knight proves his courage during a fight against the dragon. Choose a card from the virtue pile "Drache" and take it in your hand.
  • (E) "Exerzitium: Buch" (exercise: book) - The knight gains wisdom by studying in the library. Choose a card from the virtue pile "Buch" and take it in your hand.
  • (A) "Artus' Tafelrunde" (King Arthur's Round Table) (see illustration A) - The knight receives a task from the Round Table. Choose one of the three task cards that are lying in the middle of the circle, face up, and add it to your hand. If both "Artus' Tafelrunde" (A) action cards have been chosen, the second player only has two cards to choose from.
  • (T) "Turnier" (tournament) (see illustration T) - The knights measure themselves against each other during the tournament.
    • Each player may only choose this action once per round!
    • If one or two players have chosen this action, a tournament takes place at the end of phase II. The players who participate in the tournament offer any number of "Schwert" and/or "Lanze" virtue cards, face down. It is also possible to offer no cards. The players turn over their cards simultaneously. The player with the higher total value on the virtue cards wins the tournament and 2 shields (points). The loser receives nothing. In the case of a tie, both players involved get one point each. If nobody has offered cards for the tournament, nobody wins points.

Actions that can only be executed in the countryside (the corresponding action cards are marked with green leaves on the border):

  • (G) "Gericht" (court) (see illustration G) - The knight administers justice in a village outside Camelot. Choose any of your virtue cards "Buch" and put it back on the corresponding pile. Then, you receive two points. If you do not have a corresponding card, you receive no points.
  • (Q) "Queste" (quest) (see illustration Q) - The knight completes a task.
    • The player may execute the action "Queste" if his knight is at the location indicated on one of his task cards (same landscape) and possesses the necessary virtue cards. He puts the virtue cards back on the corresponding piles and receives the same number of points as there are shields on the task card. The completed task card is withdrawn from the game.
    • If a player's card has a higher virtue value than necessary, he or she may not change the virtue card, but completes the task better than required. Nevertheless, he does not receive a bonus.
    • Important: For every task that has to be completed, the player needs one action card "Queste", even if he or she wants to complete several tasks at the same location.
    • Example: In phase I, the player chooses the action card "Queste" (Q) and wants to execute it in phase II. He or she has the task card "Fange den goldenen Fasan" ("Catch the golden pheasant"). He or she can solve this task only at the corresponding location ("Das verborgene Tal", "The hidden valley"). If necessary, the player has to use the action "Pferd" (P, horse) before. He needs "Lanze 1" and "Buch 1". But the player only has "Lanze 1" and "Buch 2". He or she puts these cards back and receives 2 shields (points). The extra book is not refunded. The settled task card is withdrawn and the player puts back the "Queste" card.

Actions that can be executed at any location (the corresponding action cards are marked with a yellow wall and green leaves on the border):

  • (P) "Pferd" (horse) - The player may move his or her knight in any direction by as many locations as indicated on the horse card at the most. Several knights may stand on the same location card.

Hint: At any time, a player may have any number of virtue and task cards in his hand. During the game, it may occur that a player can not execute his actions as he or she wishes, for example because he or she cannot obtain the necessary virtue cards. This was intended!

Phase III: To assign the tents for the next round and to complete the task cards

During this phase, the playing order for the next round is determined and the display completed.

  • If necessary, the visible task cards in the middle of the circle are complemented with cards from the draw pile to make three. If the pile is used up, there are less task cards shown face up.
  • The player who has the least points at that time receives tent 1, the one with the second least number of points gets tent 2, and so on.
  • In the case of a tie, shuffle the corresponding tents, face down, and deal them out to the tied players.
  • Players place their tents in front of them on the table, face up. The next round then starts with phase I.

End of the Game

  • The game ends as soon as a player has reached or exceeded a determined number of points: 2 players - 25 points, 3 players - 20 points, 4 players - 15 points. The current round will be finished.
  • The player who has the most points wins the game. In the case of a tie, the first player to reach this number of points wins.

  • Books next to "Exerzitium Buch" (wisdom)
  • Then take the following cards from the virtue piles, shuffle them face down, and deal out two cards to every player, who takes them into their hand:
    • 4 players: two cards with the value 1 from each pile
    • 3 players: in each case two cards "sword" and "dragon" with the value 1 as well as in each case one card "lance" and "book" with the value 1
    • 2 players: one card with the value 1 from each pile.
  • If you are playing with 2 or 3 players, you also put aside the following cards: one of each of the action cards "Artus' Tafelrunde" (A), "Gericht" (G) and "Pferd" (P) as well as in each case one virtue card "Schwert 1", "Lanze 1", "Drachen 1" and "Buch 1".
  • If only one player has chosen this action, he has to offer one virtue card in order to receive two points. Otherwise, he does not get any points. The players put back the tournament cards and the virtue cards offered (the loser's cards as well) to the location Camelot and to the corresponding virtue piles respectively.
