Suggested Number of Players

I KNOW!™ may be enjoyed by 2 to 6 players. For a change of pace, or for larger numbers, team play is suggested.

Object of the Game

The object of the game is to answer correctly at least one question in each of the six Core subjects and a total of five questions from the four Option subjects. Correctly answering questions in addition to those required will count as bonus points. The player or team with the most points is the winner.

Handicapping

The questions are divided into four levels: A, B, C and D.

  • Level A is recommended for grades 1 and 2.
  • Level B is recommended for grades 3 and 4.
  • Level C is recommended for grades 5 and 6.
  • Level D is recommended for grades 7, 8 and 9.

A player in grade 5 can play against a player in grade 9 as each player can play at his or her own level. A player may choose to play at a level that is higher than the level determined by his or her grade in school.

The Play

To start, each player's token is placed in the Principal's Office. Each player then rolls the die. The player with the largest number then rolls the die again and moves his or her token the number of squares that are showing on the die. Move the token clockwise.

The token will land on one of the following:

(A) Coloured Locker or Option Square. The player must answer a question from the textbook as indicated by the colour of the square (for example, blue square - Math or Science; red square - Spelling or Language Arts). The person to the player's right will ask a question at the player's level from the appropriate textbook. If the question is answered correctly the player records a checkmark on his or her report card. Place the checkmark in the row that corresponds to the question just answered.

(B) Recess Area. The player misses a turn and also chooses another player who must move his or her token to the Recess Area and also miss a turn.

(C) Principal's Office. The player takes the top card from the Announcement Card pile in the centre of the board, reads the card out loud, and follows the directions on the card. A Hall Pass Bonus worth five (5) points is awarded when a player passes the Principal's Office.

(D) Nurse's Office. On the player's next regular turn, an even number must be rolled before the token can be advanced. If an even number is rolled, move the token ahead the number rolled. If an odd number is rolled, the player must wait for his or her next turn before he or she may try to roll an even number.

(E) Study Hall. The player answers a question from the subject of his or her choice.

(F) Announcement. The player takes the top card from the Announcement Card pile in the centre of the board, reads the card out loud, and follows the directions on the card.

(G) Go To. The player advances his or her token directly to the square indicated. Do not record a Hall Pass Bonus for passing the Principal's Office.

The die is then passed to the player on the left.

Scoring

Each player or team is given a report card. When a question in a category is answered correctly, a checkmark is recorded in the row beside the Core subject or Option subject that corresponds to the question answered.

Core Subjects

Math, Spelling, Language Arts, Science, History (including Social Studies) and Geography. The first correct answer in each of these categories is scored as 10 points. Any additional questions that are answered correctly in these categories are scored as 5 points each.

Option Subjects

Outdoor Education, Reading and Library, Recreation and Health, and Industrial Arts and Home Economics. Score at 5 points each.

Hall Pass Bonus

Each time a player passes the Principal's Offices as a result of the roll of the die a checkmark is recorded in this area of your report card. Score 5 points each. A checkmark is not recorded when a player passes the Principal's Office as a result of following a "Go To" instruction.

End of Play

When one player has correctly answered at least one question from each Core subject and a total of 5 questions in the Option area, the game immediately ends.

All players total their report cards.

The player with the most points is the winner.
