Game Settings

Each game mode has its own game settings, which allow for variety and difficulty adjustment from mode to mode.

The "Standard Mode" icon shows the game settings for the Standard Scenario sheets.

Below are all the different game settings you may see across the various modes of Hyve Legacy.

Starting Population

Start with 6 Population. Fill in 6 circles of the Population track at the start of the game.

Worker Refresh

During the Refresh Phase, roll dice equal to your Population. (Max of 10).

Scoring

Wobbly: Whether HP is gained or lost ALWAYS increment the HP dice, then roll it over going DOWN if Seasonal Effects are scoring, or UP if you're scoring. (See page 4)

OR

Flat: Gain and Lose HP Incrementing and moving up on the track when gaining HP and decrementing and moving down on the track when losing HP. (See Page 4)

Placement Rules

Free: Place features wherever you want in the active Hyve.

OR

Structured: Place the first feature in the middle of the active Hyve and all other features adjacent to existing features in the active Hyve.

Note: For either placement variant, when placing Larva or Nectar into a present Hyve, if that Hyve fills up, then rotate clockwise toward the next Hyve and continue until you've placed all necessary features.

Migration

Scaling: You lose a flat amount of population for migrating based on which season you're in.

OR

Proportional: Lose one-third (rounded down) of your current population whenever you migrate.

Tracking HP

Your colony's HP (Health Points) are tracked using a 6-sided die on the HP Track. There are two ways this die will move up and down the track depending on the difficulty level:

Flat Scoring: When you gain HP, increment the die the amount gained and move the die one space up the track towards the "Thriving" position whenever you go over "6", resetting the die to 1 and continuing to increment if needed. Effectively each square on the track represents 6 HP.

When you lose HP, decrement the die the amount lost and move the die one space down the track towards the "Colony Collapse" position whenever you go under "1" resetting the die to 6 and continuing to decrement if needed.

Flat Scoring Example: In gaining 5 HP, you would increment the die to 6, move it one space towards the "Thriving" Position, reset it to "1", then increment the die to "2".

Wobbly Scoring: Whether HP would be GAINED OR LOST always INCREMENT the die. Just like in Flat Scoring, when you GAIN HP increment the die and move up the track whenever you go over "6". When LOSING HP, INCREMENT the die as above, but move the die DOWN the track towards "Colony Collapse" whenever going over "6". This variant makes timing everything when it comes to the Season's Score and when you want to score HP, and small penalties to your HP can even cause you to gain HP when taken at the proper time!

Wobbly Scoring Example: In losing 5 HP, you would INCREMENT the die to 6, move back it one space towards the "Colony Collapse" space (since you went over 6), reset it to "1", then increment the die to "2". The die is ALWAYS incrementing towards 6, but its movement up and down the track is determined by whether you are gaining or losing HP.

How to Win (or Lose)

There are 3 win conditions that indicate your hyve will thrive into the future! If at any point in the Scenario any one of those conditions are met, the Scenario immediately ends and you win! However, there are also 2 loss conditions that indicate your colony has collapsed, and if either of these conditions are met, the Scenario immediately ends and you lose. If both happen at the same time, you lose.

Win Conditions

  • Complete all turns. (Season track is fully marked)
  • OR Complete all 6 hyves.
  • OR Your HP die enters the 'Thriving' position on the HP Track.

Loss Conditions

  • Your population is 0.
  • OR Your HP die enters the 'Colony Collapse' position of the HP Track.

Setup

When starting any scenario, you must assign each color a die value by filling the corresponding die face in the setup area of the game sheet. The "Bee" face is used as a wild for all purposes and has no specific color.

Then, fill in 6 spaces on the Population Track according to the game settings.

Finally, Set the HP die to '1' and place it on the starting position of the HP track. You're ready!

Turn Structure

  1. Refresh: Roll dice based on your Population. These rolled dice represent your Bees for the turn.
  2. Assign Workers: Assign Bees to optional Actions.
  3. Gather Nectar: Place all unassigned Bees into the active hyve.
  4. Feed Bees: Lose population for any Bees you have in excess of their Bread Levels.
  5. Migration: For each hyve completed this turn, lose population based on which Migration difficulty you are playing.
  6. Season: Choose and resolve a Seasonal Effect for the current Season.

The active hyve begins with the top-most hyve on the game sheet, and remains the active hyve until all spaces are occupied. As soon as the active hyve is completed, the next clockwise hyve becomes active for play.

1. Refresh

Roll Dice equal to your population, up to a maximum of 10 dice. Therefore if you had 15 population, you would still only roll 10 dice.

Example: If you had 8 population as marked above, you would roll 8 dice.

2. Assign Workers

There are 4 optional Actions along the top & right side of the 6 center hyves. Each Action takes one or more Bees depending on the Action. Each Action can only be used once per turn, and Wild Bees can be used to represent any other die result! Plan carefully!

Repurpose

Place a Bee here and reroll exactly that many other Bees that haven't yet been assigned to an Action. (A Wild Bee would let you reroll any amount from 1-5)

You cannot place a Bee here that would make you reroll more Bees than you presently have. (If you only had 3 unassigned Bees left, you couldn't place a "4-Bee" here.)

Example: Placing a "3" Bee here would allow you to reroll 3 of your remaining Bees.

Bakery

Upgrade a color of Bee-Bread by placing a matching set of Bees equal to the bread level & color that you wish to upgrade, provided that all prior levels of that color were already upgraded. Mark the new Bread Level with that Bee's Color. Wild Bees can contribute toward any set.

(Bee Bread is used to sustain your population in the Feed Bees phase.)

You begin the Scenario with Level 1 of each type of Bread, represented by the matching die on the far left of each Bread.

Example: Placing three "2" Bees would allow you to upgrade to the 3rd level of the blue bread, given that you had the 2nd level already from a prior turn.

Did you know that bees in spring and summer months mostly consume a lightly-processed pollen called "Bee Bread"? It is their primary food source, while honey is used for more long-term food storage.

Larva Chamber

Here you must choose 1 of 2 sub-options, either Tend Eggs OR Tend Larva. You can't pick both in the same turn!

Tend Eggs

Place a Bee here to fill in the ENTIRE matching shape into the Larva Chamber in any available position. The shapes may be reversed and/or 'flipped' when placing. Be sure to use that Bee's color when drawing that shape. Wild Bees may be used for any shape here.

Example: Placing a "5" Bee here would allow you to fill the corresponding shape using the color associated with "5" Bees. Don't forget you can rotate and/or flip the shape!

Tend Larva

Place a Bee here to encircle the row OR column corresponding with that number. Gain HP equal to the number of different colors encircled and place Larva into the hyve equal to the total number of populated Larva you encircle. Each Larva placed into the hyve will gain population equal to the number of UNIQUE colors that each larva is placed adjacent to. A Wild Bee allows you to encircle any row or column OR the Wild Columns. Larva placed into the hyve are denoted by the number of Population gained by that Larva (see example)

Example: Encircling the "3" column would net you 2 additional health for circling 2 different colors. You would also place 4 Larva into your active hyve and gain an additional population for each unique color adjacent to the placed Larva.

Queen's Attendants

Place a Bee to fill-in the placed Bee's color to an available Royal Jelly thereby enacting that Jelly's effect! Wild Bees can place any color. Only a few Royal Jelly effects are shown here, but you will encounter a different mix of effects on each sheet! (Rules for each Royal Jelly effect can be found on the included reference sheet.)

  1. Overwork: Gain Population equal to the Bee placed.
  2. Fly Drones: Lose Population equal to the Bee placed here to gain twice that much HP. Example: If you put a blue ("2") Bee here, you would gain 4 HP after eliminating 2 population
  3. Overwork Queen: Place an amount of Larva into the hyve equal to this Bee's value.
  4. Plumose: Gain 1 Bread Level of this Bee's color. Example: If you used a green Bee here, you could upgrade your 3-type bread once.

Each Royal Jelly can only hold one of each color! Once a Royal Jelly has Been populated with a color, you won't be able to use a Bee of that color to gain that effect again!

Queen's Rewards

Once you complete a Royal Attendant Action, if a Royal Jelly was completed you gain 1 of the 4 Queen's Rewards for that Scenario.

  • Swarm: Gain 1 HP for every 2 Population.
  • Migratory: Gain 3 HP for each completed hyve
  • Multi-Culture: Gain 1 HP for each variety of Nectar used in each completed Hyve.
  • Monoculture: Gain HP equal to the number of the most used color of Nectar in ALL hyves

3. Gather Nectar

Any Bees not assigned to Actions during the prior Phase are used to Gather Nectar. For each remaining Bee, place a Nectar of that type into the hyve by coloring a hex in that color.

Remember to look at the placement rules for the Game Sheet you are playing! Some modes may allow you to place nectar anywhere, while others force you to start in the middle and branch out!

Whenever you complete a hyve score it by multiplying the number of each Nectar variety that is not adjacent to any other Nectar variety. If this would make you multiply by zero, ignore that Nectar instead. Larva are colorless, allowing you to build 'walls' for better scoring opportunities.

Example: 4 x 4 x 1 = 16HP

4. Feed Bees

Lose population for any Bees that are in excess of your Bread Levels. You start the Scenario with 1 of each Bread Level, allowing you to support 1 of each type of Bee by default.

Wild Bees have no corresponding bread, and thus always result in a loss of population. (These represent short-lived bees that are available for any task in the colony.)

If you ever have 0 (or less) population, you lose the Scenario.

Example: The 1-Bees, 4-Bees & 5-Bees are all supported by sufficient Bread Levels. However, since the Bread Level for the 3-Bees is only at Level 2, one 3-Bee is unsupported, losing 1 Population. Wild Bees have no corresponding bread, and always result in a loss of Population.

5. Migration

For each hyve completed during this turn lose population based on which Migration variant you're playing. (It would be rare to complete more than one hyve a turn.)

6. Seasonal Effects

Select which seasonal effect you want to incur. These represent elements of nature hostile to your colony: bad weather, birds, bears, etc. Choose any available effect in your current Season. Once all of the effects for a Season have been completed, move onto the next Season.

Typically a seasonal effect forces you to lose HP equal to the number shown; however, some effects have additional icons which modify the effect:

  • Lose HP Equal to the number indicated
  • Lose 1 population for each of these icons present in the effect
  • Lose 6 HP for each bread level currently below level 3.

Example: In the illustration, the player has already completed 6 turns and must now choose another seasonal effect. Since the player is still in Summer, they can choose between losing 5 HP and 1 Population, or 7 HP and 1 Population.

After applying all Seasonal Effects, play then continues to the next turn, starting with phase 1, "Refresh"

Congratulations! You now have all the knowledge you need to play the very first Scenario! However the challenges don't stop here. As you progress through the game, you will encounter a variety of new seasonal effects, Queen's Rewards, Royal Jellies, and even entirely different modes! The following pages will describe each of those in detail, as well as how to begin your first campaign in "Hyve: Legacy Edition".

Legacy Mode

Track your colony's long-term evolution across multiple sessions. Legacy Mode introduces persistent progression to HYVE. Each game is a chapter in your colonies generational saga. As you complete scenarios you gain Honey which can be spent on powerful upgrade Perks for future Scenarios in the same run.

Legacy Sheet

Elements: Legacy Scenarios; Honey Well (5 Total); Cost (In Honey); "Courier" Action; Perks; Bread Upgrades; Core Resources (HP, Population & Nectar); Starting Honey; Bee Setup.

Starting a Legacy

At the start of each Legacy, you must choose your colors and mark them at the bottom right of your sheet. This is exactly like the setup for an individual Scenario except that these colors CANNOT be changed until the Legacy is complete. Each time you start a Scenario, you must put these colors in the Setup Area of the Scenario.

The "Run Configuration" at the top of the sheet indicates the 5 Scenarios that make up the Legacy. In the game booklet, following each Legacy Sheet, the indicated game sheets are printed in the order needed to complete them, so there is no need to search the booklet for the right scenario.

Your goal is to successfully complete each scenario in order, thus winning the Queen's favor and establishing a colony for generations to come!

If you fail a Scenario, the Legacy immediately ends (Normal Difficulty) or then allows you to switch the Legacy to the Easy variant, see p. 15.

This will be a great challenge, but before beginning each Scenario, you have the opportunity to purchase powerful upgrades spending Honey that you have been bequeathed by your predecessor and by what you later earn between and during Scenarios.

Gaining Honey

Each Legacy Sheet provides you with some starting Honey to spend before your first scenario. Each Legacy will provide you with less and less starting Honey.

You will also gain additional Honey at the end of each successful scenario. Honey gained in this way will be stored in the Honey Well underneath the Scenario just completed.

Upon completing a Scenario, you gain Honey for the following:

  • Gain 1 Honey for every 3 positions your HP die is past the Starting Space on the HP Track (regardless of die value).
  • Gain 1 Honey for every 5 Population at the end of the Scenario.
  • Gain 1 Honey for every completed hyve.
  • Gain bonus Honey as indicated by reaching certain thresholds on the Courier action (See p. 14)

Example: Upon completing this scenario you have 12 Population, 4 completed hyves, and your HP die is 7 spaces above the Starting Space. This nets you 9 total Honey that you can spend before the next scenario! Mark it in the Honey Well and get to shopping!

Honey cannot be saved from scenario to scenario, so you must carefully use what you have! Any unspent Honey that you have is lost upon beginning the scenario!

Purchasing Upgrades

There are 3 different types of upgrades available to purchase.

  • Perks: These are in the left-most column and provide you with a persistent effect that you may utilize in all future Scenarios. These each have a flat Honey cost.
  • Bread Upgrades: These are in the right-most column and allow you to begin with higher bread levels in all future scenarios. Like upgrading Bread (in game) these get more expensive the more you buy of the same type.
  • Core Resources: These make up the center column and allow you to immediately gain bonuses of the purchased resource when you use the Courier action (see p. 14). These have a flat cost per resource you purchase.

To purchase an upgrade, simply reduce your available Honey by the cost indicated for the upgrade, and mark the upgrade accordingly. Each upgrade's function and cost is explained in detail below.

Perks

Perks provide powerful effects that last the entirety of your Legacy!

To purchase a Perk, simply choose an effect that hasn't been purchased, pay the cost in Honey, and mark the star associated with that effect (the color doesn't matter).

  • Resiliance: Gain exactly 1 HP whenever you lose any number of Population.
  • Vigorous: Gain exactly 1 HP whenever you gain any number of Population.
  • Tenacity: Any seasonal Population loss is always reduced by 1.
  • Fecundity: When adding any number of Larva to the hyve, add exactly one more.
  • Deep Stores: You always score a minimum of 6 HP whenever you complete a hyve.
  • Beseech: When adding to an empty Royal Jelly, you may enact the chosen effect twice using the same color. Plumose Example: You would add 2 to your yellow Bread Levels instead of 1.
  • Excisor: When completing a hyve, before scoring, you may cross out any once space, treating it as colorless.
  • Controlled Rolls: You are no longer required to roll dice equal to your Population, but may roll any number less than your Population.
  • Sensilla: When your HP die enters an uncolored space on the HP track, color it with any color of your choice, and immediately add a Nectar of that color to your active hyve. Example: Since this space isn't colored yet, you choose to fill it with purple and add 1 purple nectar to your active hyve!
  • Migratory: When migrating, gain 1 HP per each crossed out effect this season.

Bread Upgrades

Bread Upgrades allow you start each future scenario with higher bread levels!

To purchase a Bread Upgrade, first choose which bread type you want to upgrade and pay the Honey cost of the right-most empty slot for that type. Then fill in the box with the appropriate color for that die result (according to the setup area).

During setup of your next scenarios, you must fill in your Bread Levels to match the Bread Upgrades of your Legacy Sheet. This will give you an advantageous head start!

Example: In the illustration above, you just purchased 3 Bread Upgrades for your 1-Type bread. You must spend 9 Honey for these Upgrades (2+3+4). But now you may start your 1-Bread at Level 4 for each subsequent scenario!

Core Resources

Purchasing Core Resources gives you access to additional Population, Nectar, and HP throughout the scenarios.

To purchase Core Resources, first select which resource you would like to acquire. You may acquire up to 2 of that resource for every 1 Honey spent. For each resource purchased, fill in a corresponding space with a color of your choice from your setup area. (The color used here will matter later.)

You may repeat this process if you wish to purchase a different resource. You aren't limited to only purchasing one type of resource, or to a single color.

Example: In the illustration, you already had 1 orange, and 2 red Population, but you would like to purchase some more. You spend 3 Honey to gain 6 more Population, filling 6 more spaces! You choose 3 purple, 1 brown, and 2 more red!

In order to claim these resources in a Scenario, you must assign a Bee to the Courier action located on the Legacy Sheet, which is explained in detail below.

Courier Action

The Courier action gives you access to the Core Resources you've purchased, as well as gives you the opportunity to gain additional Honey at the end of the Scenario!

During a Scenario, during the Assign Workers phase, you may assign one Bee to this Action. However, this bee MUST match the color of an unused resource (or be a Wild Bee).

When you send a matching-colored bee to the Courier, you receive ALL resources of that color at once (except those that have been previously used and are crossed out). Even if you don't want some of them, if they are in the same color as the Bee you sent, you must claim all of them!

Gain all resources, cross out each resource that matched the Bee used for the action. They cannot be acquired again.

Example: Placing a 2-Bee here lets you acquire each resource that you have previously purchased in that color (unless already crossed out). In this case, you would gain 3 Population, 2 Purple Nectar, and 2 HP!

Strategy Tip: Diversify your resource colors to control how much you gain per Courier visit.

Note that Wild Bees do not count for matching colors! Instead, when you send a Wild Bee, you make progress on the Honey Track.

After placing a Wild Bee, fill in the next empty square on the track beneath the Courier Action (The color doesn't matter.)

When you reach space that gives you Bonus Honey, fill it like any other space. Each of these filled spaces will give you additional Honey if you win the scenario!

At the end of the Scenario, cross out each filled Bonus Honey space and add that amount of Honey to your final total.

Example: If you had these spaces filled, you would gain an additional 9 Honey when you tally your Honey at the end of the Scenario! You wouldn't gain the 3 at the start of the track since it's already cross out from the last scenario.

Like any other Action space, only one Bee may be placed here per turn!

Easy Mode

If a Legacy is proving too difficult, you may switch to "Easy Mode" at any time!

In easy mode, failing a scenario doesn't mean the end of the Legacy! Instead, cross out a single type of Bread Upgrade.

That Bread Upgrade won't be available for future scenarios, nor can you purchase upgrades for that Bread type any more.

However, you may still acquire Honey as if you had won the scenario, make purchases on other upgrades, and then continue to the next scenario!

Game Modes

There are many exciting modes you will encounter through the course of a Legacy Run. This section outlines any additional rules, icons, or information you might see as you explore each one!

Coldsnap

An extreme winter is inbound, huddle up with your fellow bees and keep warm!

In addition to normal HP loss, this variant includes new harsh seasonal effects:

  • Lose X Population
  • Lose HP equal to X minus your current Population. Example: If your Population were 10, this effect would force you to lose 20 HP!
  • Lose X HP per Bread Level that's less than level Y

Did you know that in winter months, during the most extreme cold, the bees will concentrate around their eggs and larva and vibrate to keep them warm? They need a critical mass of population to survive freezing weather, and this is what this Seasonal Effect emulates.

Mites Challenge

Varroa Mites have entered the valley, and we must work even harder to counteract the nuisance these pests bring to our colony.

The new "Mites" icon means that each time you perform any Seasonal Effect you must also choose and cross out any of your Nectar in your active hyve (if applicable). While a disadvantage, you can turn this into an advantage if played correctly. Bees are all about making the best of it!

Example: This effect would cause you to lose 5 HP, 1 Population, and cross out a Nectar from your active hyve! Crossed out Nectar are considered colorless for scoring.

Wasp War

It is going to be a long and hot summer, and the wasps have returned to the valley... In Wasp War, face off against a hostile colony of wasps until the rains return to bring peace.

You must be on guard since your HP track has been shortened, and you will face waves of relentless attacks from wasps.

At the end of each turn, instead of the Seasonal Effects phase, you will have a Wasp Attack phase.

6. Wasp Attack

During this phase, roll two D6, each representing a Wasp "Light Attack" and then add those dice together to determine the Wasp "Heavy Attack".

(Wild Bees count as "6" for this purpose)

The effects of the attack work similarly to the Season Effects of other modes.

Elements: Attack Number; Round Track.

  • Just like the Seasons Track, the numbers in an attack indicate how much HP you must lose.
  • You must lose one Population for each of these icons present, or as many as this icon times X.
  • Cross out 1 populated Larva in the Larva Chamber for each of these icons, or as many as this icon times X. This Larva has been eaten and cannot be placed.

Example: If you rolled a 4 and a 5, then you'd lose the HP associated with those numbers (2 HP and 3 HP respectively) as each of the Light Attacks. Then, add the two numbers together to determine the Wasp Heavy Attack (9, which results in 2 lost population).

Rally the Troops

However vicious the Wasps are, you aren't helpless to these attacks. Prepare for battle!

Marshall Action

The Marshal Action allows you to block and counterattack against the wasp incursions.

You can place up to 2 non-matching Bees per turn. You can fill in these formations however you like. Any color can be used on any hex, you do not have to complete a group of hexes before moving on to the next group.

Defensive Formations: Allow you to block Light Attacks by spending defensive reserves here on a 1-for-1 basis. Blocked Light Attack(s) still contribute their value toward the Heavy Attack.

Example: Earlier, you placed a 2 Bee here to fill a defensive position. You may now cross out that filled hex when a "2" is rolled during the Wasp Attack phase in order to prevent that Light Attack from happening.

Offensive Formation: If you fill out one of the 3 V-shaped Formations completely, add together the total value of all the colors in that area to then permanently cross-out the Wasp Attack Number that matches that value. That Attack now has no effect when rolled during the Wasp Attack Phase.

If the sum of your Offensive Formation exceeds 12, then the the Formation has failed and has no effect.

Example: After filling the last space of this formation, the total value of all the colors in this formation equals "10", so we cross off and negate the "10" attack.

Bee Builder

This hyve hasn't been built yet — it's up to you to create it!

In this mode, you must construct polyomino shapes using the new Build Action before you can store Nectar and Larva within.

New Action

Build the hyve! Each built shape becomes part of your hyve structure and unlocks the interior hexes for Nectar and Larva placement.

Build Action

For each bee placed here, draw the corresponding shape in your active hyve. Each shape drawn must be connected to previously built shapes (except for your first, which may be placed anywhere inside the topmost hyve).

Example: Placing a "1" and "4" type bee here would allow you to draw the two corresponding shapes. These hexes can now be filled with Nectar or Larva!

Hyves & Migration

Placing Nectar or Larva into the next hyve in sequence will trigger a Migration, but Building that hyve via the Build Action never triggers a Migration. Indeed, you should be 'building ahead' of your intended use of those areas!

(Empty spaces that weren't filled with shapes simply count as inert, colorless hexes—but clever planning can make this a benefit.)

Once Migration occurs, you can no longer place Nectar or Larva or Build in any earlier hyves, even if they still have space.

Example: 2 x 3 = 6HP

Bee Builder End Game

In Bee Builder mode, most of the win/loss conditions remain the same. However, unlike other modes you don't need to fill in every single hyve with Nectar to win. Instead, you can win when it is impossible to build any more of the last (6th) hyve. It doesn't matter how many gaps there are in the hyve, as long as they aren't big enough for you to properly fill in, that's enough!

Example: Drawing this shape in the 6th hyve would immediately result in victory, since there is no longer any space to build another shape (each shape is composed of four hexes). Congratulations!

Turbo Mode

Those must be coffee flowers, because something has the whole colony abuzz!

In Turbo Mode, each 2-type Bee serves two roles:

  • Action Boost: When used alongside other Bees, they can enhance the Action being performed.
  • Colorless Nectar: During the Gather Nectar Phase, each 2-type Bee assigned produces an "X" instead of colored Nectar. These do not score points directly but can simplify separating colored Nectar, helping you optimize your hyve more efficiently.

2-type bees have no affect if placed by themselves(except during the Gather Nectar Phase).

Action Details

Repurpose

When placing a 2, double the amount of dice rolled. Placing a 2 and a 2, for example, would allow you to re-roll 4 dice.

Bakery

You start with max 2-type bread, so you can feed up to six 2-type Bees a turn without losing population. Note: These 2-types don't have a color, and therefore can't be used for Nectar.

Using a 2-type Bee on this Action (in addition to whatever other set of Bees you place) doubles the Bees placed. However, you must still upgrade each bread-level sequentially and only one upgrade per turn.

Example: 2 Blue Bees along with a 2-type Bee would give you 4 Blue Bees to work with! You could upgrade from Level 2 to Level 3 with 3 of them, but the remaining Blue Bee wouldn't do anything.

Tend Eggs

The Larva Chamber is a bit more cozy and there is no 2 row, column or shape. However, placing a 2-Bee here allows you to fill in two of whichever shape corresponds with the Bee you placed with it.

Example: If you place a 1 Bee and a 2 Bee here, you would able to place TWO line shapes into the Larva Chamber.

Tend Larva

Placing a 2 here with another Bee allows you to circle both the row AND column associated with the other placed Bee.

Queen's Attendants

The Royal Jelly 2-spots are also pre-filled in. Placing a 2-type bee here allows you to take this action twice with the other Bee. If you place a 6 here with a 2 you can take two totally different Royal Jelly Actions (for example, filling out the top Royal Jelly of one Action and the bottom of another).

Example: If you place a 6 Bee and a 2 Bee here, you would be able to take 2 different actions as long as there is space in those actions to fill in (since 6's are wild).

Long Live the Queen

The Queen's reign is coming to an end, and a new monarch must be chosen. As her final seasons approach, she will issue increasingly complex royal demands. Only those who prove themselves worthy in her eyes will earn her favor — and the crown.

Demands & Royal Approval

Each season, the Queen issues a demand — a specific condition that must be met to earn her approval. These demands reflect her expectations for the colony's future.

Before resolving Seasonal Effects check whether you have satisfied the current demand(s). There is one demand per season, and these demands stack as you progress through the Scenario.

For each satisfied Demand, gain 1 Approval point by marking a pip above the "starting" position on the HP track. For each unsatisfied Demand, you lose her favor, and must mark 1 Disapproval point in a pip below the "starting" position on the HP track.

Example: Here determine if you colored any portion of a Royal Jelly and if you increased a Bread Level this turn. If both are true you'd gain 2 Approval.

Demand types:

  • Royal Jelly must have been colored this turn
  • A Bread type must have been upgraded this turn
  • You must have X or more completed hyves
  • Population must be greater than X
  • All bread levels must be greater than X
  • HP must be greater than than the starter space

End Game: The Coronation

As in other modes, you lose if any loss conditions are met. However, if a win condition is met, you must also tally your Approval and Disapproval points:

  • If you have at least 1 more Approval than Disapproval, the Queen names you her successor. You win!
  • If not, you've fallen short of the crown and you lose, despite any other win conditions

You will notice there is no "thriving" space on this board. You can't win the Scenario this way in this mode!
