Game Set Up
Determine Number of Platform Cards Available
Depending on the player count take a limited number of platform cards and put the rest back in the box:
- 2 Players: 7 Platforms
- 3 Players: 10 Platforms
- 4 Players: 11 Platforms
Give Each Player
- 1 Flag, 1 basic catapult card, 1 catapult base and 1 catapult basket
- 1 Block for starting player and +1 for next players (2 blocks for second player, 3 for third, etc)
- 2 Walls and 1 platform
Everything Else to General Supply
Available to all players during the game:
- All catapult upgrades, sandbags, sandbag supports and remaining walls, platforms and blocks
Players Place Their Towers
- All players build an initial 1 level tower in front of them with two walls and their platform on top and then place their flag on the platform.
- All towers must be approx 50cm apart from every other tower.
- 2 players: Both towers must be more than 50cm apart.
Players Construct Their Catapults
- Put your basic catapult card vertically into your base and clip the basket on top so that the basket (sticking out bit) faces forward.
Practice launching – put a block on the basket, hold the base with one hand, slowly pull back the basket with a finger of the other hand and let go...
Game Play
You win if at the start of your turn you have a standing tower of the required height with your flag on top.
- 2-3 Players: 5 Levels
- 4 Players: 4 Levels
Player Actions
Choose a starting player. Each player in clockwise order takes ONE ACTION of their choice. If there are not enough supplies remaining you can only take what is available. Continue until someone wins – there is no second place.
Build
Choose one of the following:
- Strong (1 Level with 2 walls): Take one platform and 2 walls from the supply to build one new level of your tower supported by two walls.
- Fast (2 Levels with 1 wall each): Take two platforms and 2 walls from the supply to build two new levels of your tower each supported by only one wall. You can choose to take only one platform and one wall.
- Defence (3 Sandbags – you can mix and match): Take 3 cards, sandbags and/or sandbag supports, from the general supply and place them how and where you choose to defend your tower. Sandbags cannot touch your tower.
Prepare
Choose one of the following:
- Collect Blocks (Take as many as the level of your tower): Collect a number of blocks from the supply equal to the levels of your tower. You cannot ever have more than 5 in your personal supply. If this action takes you over 5 only take enough to keep 5 in total.
- Improve Catapult (Upgrade model): Take an upgrade card, take out your basic catapult card (and any previous upgrades) from your base, then put all the cards back into your catapult base together with your basket over them all. The more upgrades you have the stiffer the catapult and the harder and faster it launches a block.
Attack
- Fire at will (Launch as many as you want): Launch blocks until you run out or decide to stop. You can change targets as you choose. After you have finished all attacks you can steal materials from demolished towers.
NOTE: If you start this action with no blocks you can take one from the supply. You will only get one shot but it does give you a last ditch chance when an opponent is about to win.
General Rules
Firing Catapults
Position your catapult where you want, provided it is not closer to your target than your own flag and not more than about 20 cm away from your own flag.
Place a block on the basket, pull gently back on the top of the basket and release.
All launched blocks are returned to the supply.
Beware catapults are temperamental and inaccurate (Tip: Have a few practice shots before the game starts).
Destroying Towers and Stealing
- If you successfully attack you can steal up to 1 wall and 1 platform from each tower you demolished after all your attacks. You can never steal a player's base (Their last platform and two walls).
- In a two player game you may steal up to 2 walls and 2 platforms from your rival if enough materials have been demolished in your attack.
- If you knock down a rival's flag without demolishing any levels of their tower you get that block back, they must immediately put their flag back up and you can fire again.
Clearing Up and Re-building
All clear-up, stealing and re-building happens after a player has finished attacking that turn.
Players with a totally demolished tower can rebuild their base (1 platform and 2 walls).
The attacker can then steal walls and platforms and immediately use them to build up their own tower.
All other cards (walls, platforms and sandbags) that have fallen over are returned to the general supply.
No Repairs Allowed
- You may not re-arrange your tower if it has become damaged. You must always build on top of what you have.
- You may not re-arrange your defences if they have moved but not fallen over.
- If you accidentally knock your own tower over that is bad luck but it is still demolished and all fallen cards go back to the supply.
- Experienced players must lose one catapult upgrade back to the general supply after a successful attack, and can only keep a maximum of 4 blocks in their personal supply.
