Components

  • 50 tourist cards (10 cards in each of 5 colors)
  • 5 hotels (each a different color, representing a different hotel chain)
  • 5 holiday homes (each with a different star rating, from 1 to 5 stars)
  • 1 five-point token
  • 10 one-point tokens
  • 4 player markers

Object of the Game

Over the course of the game, you send members of your family on holiday to different resorts. Some prefer a hotel; others prefer a holiday home of a particular quality. Every tourist would rather share a resort with their own family than with strangers.

Place your family so that you end up in the majority at as many resorts as possible:

  • For each hotel where your family forms the majority, you score 5 points.
  • For each holiday home where your family forms the majority, you score points equal to that home's star rating.

Game Setup

  1. Shuffle the tourist cards and place them face down as a draw deck in the middle of the table.
  2. Remove the top 2 cards from the deck without looking at them, and set them aside out of play.
  3. Deal 8 tourist cards to each player. Keep your cards in hand, hidden from the other players.
  4. Arrange the 5 holiday homes in a row, ordered left to right from the lowest star rating (1 star) to the highest (5 stars).
  5. Arrange the 5 hotels in a row, in any order.
  6. Place a 1-point token on each hotel and on each holiday home.
  7. Set the 5-point token aside; it is awarded later, during scoring.
  8. Each player takes a player marker and sets it on the table in front of themselves.

Players take a different marker depending on where they sit around the table (for example, the player seated toward the mountains takes the mountain marker, the player seated toward the bay takes the bay marker, and so on). During the game, each player places their tourists on the side of a resort that matches their own marker — the player with the mountain marker plays adjacent to the mountains, the player with the bay marker plays adjacent to the bay, and so on.

How to Play

The Cards

Each tourist card tells you where that tourist is willing to stay:

  • Its star count matches a holiday home.
  • Its color matches a hotel.

A tourist whose card shows 5 stars and is colored red, for example, will only stay at the 5-star holiday home or at the red hotel — you choose which of those two resorts to send them to. A tourist whose card shows 1 star and is colored purple will only stay at the 1-star holiday home or the purple hotel.

In short, every tourist card can be played in one of two ways: next to the holiday home matching its star count, or next to the hotel matching its color.

Taking a Turn

The player with the best tan (or the youngest player) goes first. On your turn, carry out these two actions in order:

  1. Send a tourist on holiday. Choose one tourist card from your hand and play it to one of its two matching resorts (its holiday home or its hotel). You must play the card on your own side of that resort — the side matching your player marker.
  2. Draw a new tourist. Draw the top card from the draw deck into your hand.

Your turn then passes to the player on your left, who sends a tourist on holiday and draws a new card in the same way.

Once the draw deck runs out, players no longer draw new cards. Play continues, with each player simply playing tourists already in hand, until every player's hand is empty.

End of the Game and Scoring

The game ends once every player has played all the tourist cards from their hand. Score the holiday homes first, then the hotels.

Scoring the Holiday Homes

Score each holiday home separately, working in order from the 1-star home up to the 5-star home.

  • The player with the most tourists at a holiday home takes its tile, scoring points equal to its star rating (1 through 5).
  • The player with the second-most tourists at that holiday home takes a 1-point token, scoring 1 point.
  • All other players score nothing for that holiday home.

If two or more players are tied for the most tourists at a holiday home, none of the tied players score anything for it — they are ignored entirely for that resort's scoring. This means a player who placed third or fourth can still score there instead. The same applies to a tie for second place: no 1-point token is awarded.

With two players, a tie for first at a holiday home means neither player scores it, since there is no one left to take second place either.

Two-holiday-home bonus: The first player to have won (taken the tile for) 2 holiday homes immediately receives the 5-point token, worth 5 bonus points. This is why holiday homes are scored in order from 1 star to 5 stars — the bonus goes to whoever reaches 2 holiday-home tiles first as you score up the row. If, after all holiday homes are scored, no player has 2 of them (for example because of ties), the 5-point bonus is not awarded to anyone.

Scoring the Hotels

Score each hotel separately, in any order.

  • The player with the most tourists at a hotel takes its tile, scoring 5 points.
  • The player with the second-most tourists at that hotel takes a 1-point token, scoring 1 point.
  • All other players score nothing for that hotel.

Ties are resolved the same way as for holiday homes: tied players score nothing and are ignored, allowing the next-highest player to take that place instead.

The 5-point bonus token is only ever awarded once, during holiday-home scoring. Hotels never earn a bonus.

Determining the Winner

Add up each player's points from the holiday-home tiles, hotel tiles, 1-point tokens, and (if awarded) the 5-point bonus token. The player with the highest total wins.

If two or more players are tied for the highest total, the tied player who holds the holiday home with the lowest star rating wins the game.
