- Assemble the Garden Base by connecting the die-cut pieces. (Refer to the instructions printed inside the bottom of the box for assembly.)
- Working from the outside in, insert the colored tubes in the order shown. The tubes should fit snugly.
- Place the matching colored timers into each tube.
- Stack the Nectar Tokens by color on the Garden Shelf or on the table where all players can reach.
- Each player takes two Hummingbirds of the same color.
How to Play
The player who has seen a hummingbird most recently goes first, and play continues clockwise.
Before the first turn, simultaneously flip all sand timers to start the game. If this is your first time playing, we suggest reading the rest of the rules before you flip the timers.
On your turn, you may take one of the following actions:
- Claim a Flower: Place or move one of your hummingbirds onto an unoccupied flower.
- Check for Nectar: Select a flower occupied by one of your hummingbirds and check the sand timer.
- If the timer has run out, remove your hummingbird from the flower, flip the timer over, and place it back in the tube. Then, collect a nectar token of the same color.
- If the timer is still running, return it without flipping it. Remove your hummingbird from the flower and place it in front of you. Then, return your lowest-value nectar token to the center pile. If you have no tokens, simply remove your hummingbird.
Play continues clockwise.
Hummingbirds move quickly—so should you!
Things to Note
- No stalling! A little hesitation is fine, but this game is all about timing so keep the game moving! If a player is taking too long, begin a 3-second countdown.
- Embrace the suspense and test your timing—players may not use external clocks, phones, or watches to track the sand timers.
End of Game & Scoring
The game ends when all the nectar tokens of a single color have been claimed.
The player with the highest total value of nectar tokens wins.
