Game Components

4 Dragon Hoard boards (1 per player)

120 Treasure tiles (4 identical sets of 30 tiles each, backs in the dragon's colour)

Game Objective

All players simultaneously place one Treasure tile into their own hoard each turn. The lava crevices divide the hoard into separate areas. The better you manage to fill these areas with only one type of treasure each, the more points you score. The player with the most points wins!

Setup

Each player takes a Dragon Hoard board and places it in front of them.

Each player also takes the 30 Treasure tiles whose backs match the colour of their dragon, and places them on their board.

Draw lots to choose one player. This player shuffles their 30 tiles and places them as a face-down stack next to their hoard. All other players place their 30 tiles face up, one at a time, around their Dragon Hoard board.

Starting situation with four players: (diagram: four Dragon Hoard boards arranged around the table, each surrounded by a ring of its owner's tiles; a small stack of tiles is shown in the centre of the table.)

Gameplay

The player with the face-down tile stack turns over the top tile and shows it to the other players.

Each other player finds this tile in their own supply.

Then all players simultaneously place one of their tiles into their Dragon Hoard. The following rules apply to placement:

  • You may only place tiles face up on square, empty spaces of the hoard.
  • The four rectangular spaces on the sides of the hoard remain free. Each of them counts as one tile of its treasure type.
  • You may rotate a tile freely when placing it.
  • You do not have to place tiles next to other tiles; they may also lie without neighbouring tiles.
  • Placed tiles may no longer be moved.

Once every player has placed the tile in their Dragon Hoard, the player with the face-down stack turns over the next tile and so on. This continues until each hoard has 25 tiles lying in it.

Tip: Each player therefore has 5 tiles left over that do not come into play.

End of the Game

As soon as all hoards are completely filled with 25 tiles each, the game ends.

All players now count the points of their hoard:

  • In each area that is completely surrounded by lava crevices and contains only one type of treasure, you count the treasures. Each treasure there scores 1 point. The easiest way to count is to count the four treasure types one after another.
  • Areas that contain more than one type of treasure score no points!

Example

(Page 5 of the rulebook shows an example: a finished Dragon Hoard, first as a plain board and then with its areas marked and labelled A to K. The printed example has no text other than the heading "Beispiel"; the diagram is not reproduced here.)

Henry's Dragon Hoard at the end of the game looks like this. He scores the following points for the individual areas:

A7 × Sword7
B1 × Sword1
C4 × Gold4
D1 × Gems1
E2 × Treasure chest2
