Components

  • 4 horses
  • 1 referee
  • 1 game board
  • 1 colour die
  • 1 sugar cube
  • 20 sticks in five colours

Object of the Game

Which child manages to get their horse over the last obstacle first?

Setup

  1. Lay out the game board. It shows 9 obstacles. Place two sticks of different colours on each of the obstacles.
  2. Return all remaining sticks to the box.
  3. Choose a horse for each child and place all horses in front of the first obstacle.
  4. Set out the referee, the colour die and the sugar cube.
  5. Position the referee next to the game board so that it stands beside the player's own horse.

Sequence of Play

Each round, the children take turns in the following way.

Choose the obstacle. Decide up to which obstacle your own horse should jump in this round. Place the sugar cube behind the corresponding obstacle.

Roll once. Roll the colour die once and compare the rolled colour with the colours of the sticks on the obstacle in front of which your horse currently stands:

  • If the die shows a colour that is not the colour of any stick on that obstacle: the horse may jump over the obstacle.
    • If the horse has now reached the sugar cube, it stops there and the sugar cube is passed on to the next child.
    • If the horse still has one or more obstacles to jump to land next to the sugar cube, roll again.
  • If the die shows the colour of one of the sticks on that obstacle: the horse does not manage the jump.

Attention. If your horse has already jumped over one or more obstacles during this round, and so has already moved away from the referee, it may not stop there. It must move back until it is again next to the referee. The next child then takes their turn.

End of the Game

The first horse to jump over the last obstacle wins the race.
