  • 1 blue grid (frog pond)
  • 48 marbles in four colors
  • 4 marble mats (lily pads)
  • 40 winner chips
  • 4 side borders
  • 12 adhesive dots

Object of the Game

The object of the game is to get at least three marbles in a row by skillful throwing.

Before the First Game

Punch out of the die-cut sheets:

  • the four side borders with the frogs,
  • the four lily pads,
  • and the forty winner chips.

Attach the side borders to the four blue sloped sides of the game insert. To do so, stick three of the enclosed adhesive dots on the white back of each one, ideally one in the middle, one on the right and one on the left. Then peel the film from the top of the adhesive dots and press the side border firmly onto one of the sloped sides.

Note: Adults should please attach the adhesive dots and side borders in the order shown (the diagram numbers the four sides 1 to 4).

Setup

Before you start, take the marbles and the winner chips out of the insert. To do so, simply lift the blue grid. Each player receives twelve marbles in one color. If you play with two, each player may take twelve marbles of a further color, so that all marbles are distributed. With three players, one color is left over.

Each player gets a lily pad and places his 12 marbles in its middle so that they do not roll away during play. Place the winner chips within easy reach next to the game. The blue grid goes back in its place in the insert, and you can begin.

How the Marbles Are Thrown

Before the first game it is best to practice how the marbles are thrown. Attention: it is important to play on a smooth, firm surface, otherwise the marbles will not hop far enough. If you are playing on a table with a tablecloth, please set it aside.

When it is a player's turn, he takes a marble from his lily pad and throws it by letting it bounce one or several times in front of the frog pond (that is, in front of the box). Afterwards it should land in the frog pond. Once you have tried it a few times, it is quite easy.

How to Play

The youngest player begins. Then play continues clockwise. When it is your turn, you take a marble and try to make it hop into the frog pond.

If the marble stays lying outside the box, you may try a second time. Unlucky again? Then you have a third try. After that it is the next player's turn.

When Do You Get a Winner Chip?

  • As soon as three marbles lie in a row, the player who threw the third marble shouts "Quak" loudly.

The marbles must lie horizontally, vertically or diagonally, and may be of different colors. He checks together with the other players whether the three marbles really lie in a row. If so, he receives a winner chip. He takes the three marbles out of the frog pond and gives them back to the players of the corresponding colors. If the three marbles do not lie in a row after all, the player receives no winner chip and the marbles stay where they are.

  • If a player completes two rows at once with one marble, he receives two winner chips for it.

(Diagrams show several examples of one marble completing two rows of three, horizontally, vertically and diagonally, in various combinations.)

  • A player also receives a second winner chip if three marbles of one color lie in a row.

  • If more than three marbles lie in a row, there is no additional winner chip. The player also takes only three marbles out of the row.

What Happens If ...

  • a marble stays lying on the edge or on top of another marble? The player may throw it again.
  • a player has no marbles left? He takes a marble of his color from the frog pond.
  • through a player's throw, marbles hop to another place? Then the marbles stay lying in their new place. If new rows of three result from this, the player receives winner chips for them.
  • a player overlooks after his throw that three marbles lie in a row? They are taken out of the frog pond and given back to the corresponding players. He receives no winner chip for it. Make sure that you give your fellow players enough time after your throw to look and to say "Quak". If you like, you can of course also help with looking.

End of the Game

The game ends when all winner chips have been distributed. The player with the most winner chips wins. You can also decide the number of winner chips yourselves. Then, for example, the player who first has won five chips wins.

And now have lots of fun with "Hüpf hüpf, Hurra!"
