Components

  • A board with 36 squares.
  • 18 white pawns, with 1, 2 or 3 markings (6 of each value).
  • 18 black pawns, with 1, 2 or 3 markings (6 of each value).

Set Up

The board is placed between the two players.

Each player takes 18 pawns of one colour and places them at random on the 18 squares of the first three rows of the board in front of them (1 pawn per square).

Goal of the Game

To score more points than your opponent.

How to Play

The player with the "Black" pawns starts.

Each player in turn will move a pawn of their colour or a stack of pawns controlled by their colour.

If a player chooses to move a single (unstacked) pawn, they will have to end their move on another single (unstacked) pawn, regardless of the colour or markings of the pawn. If they choose to move a stack of pawns controlled by their colour, the stack will have to land on another stack of pawns (at least two stacked pawns), regardless of the marking or colour of the pawn on top of the stack.

In both cases the pawn(s) move(s) by jumping on other pawns, or stacks of pawns, in any direction (forwards, backwards, left or right) but never diagonally.

The movement of single pawns or stacks is made according to the marking (1, 2 or 3) of the top pawn.

Moving over an empty square does not count as one move. Only moving onto an occupied pawn or stack of pawns counts as a move.

Examples

  • Pawns with a 1 mark: move on one occupied square.
  • Pawns with a 2 mark: move on two occupied squares.
  • Pawns with a 3 mark: move on three occupied squares.

During the move, pawn(s) will skip empty squares without counting them in the authorized amount of moves according to the marking on the top pawn.

You can change direction only at a right angle by pivoting on an occupied square (you cannot change direction on empty squares).

You cannot go across the same square twice during a player's turn.

End of the Game

The game is over as soon as one of the players cannot make any further moves.

At this moment each player scores the pawns and stacks that are left under their control on the board. The player with the highest score wins the game.

A pawn on top of a pile has a value of its number (1, 2 or 3) multiplied by the total amount of pawns in the pile.

Examples

A pile of 4 controlled by a 3 mark "White" pawn counts as 4 × 3 = 12 points to the "White player", and a pile of 8 controlled by a 1 mark "Black" pawn counts as 8 × 1 = 8 points to the "Black player".

A single "White" pawn with a 2 mark counts as 2 × 1 = 2 points to the "White player".

Variant

At the beginning of the game, advanced players may spread the 36 pawns at random on any square of the board (1 pawn per square).
