Act One
To begin, make a new deck with 8 ranks, 3 suits, 24 total cards. Deal out a cross (+), one pile of 3 on top face down, three piles of 6 in the middle row face down, one pile of 3 on the bottom all face up. This bottom pile is the start of your discard pile and you may look at it and any other face up cards throughout the game.
Flip over the top card of each of the middle piles. Try to discard every card in these three piles by comparing the ranks and suits of two of the top cards at a time.
Discard both cards if their ranks match. Discard either if their suits match. If both rank and suit matches happen at the same time, you may discard any of the available choices. If no matches happen, move a top card of choice to the top of another pile of choice.
When a top card is face down, you always flip them over before discarding or moving any more cards.
Face up cards may stack.
If all three top cards ranks' match you must remove all of them. This is called a Gleam and it plays a significant role in acts two and three.
Some piles will eventually be left empty. They must be filled by moving cards into it before you discard any more cards, but you must flip any face down top cards before you move a card.
What about the three face down cards in the top pile of the cross?
As soon as the last card(s) are revealed in the middle piles (flipped over from being face down) take the pile at the top and, one at a time, place each card on top of the three middle piles face up, left to right. Finish discarding every card and you have cleared the deck.
