Game Idea
The funny sea inhabitants swim happily in all directions and discover many exciting things to play with.
Having rolled the die, the children's task is to fish for a sea dweller of the color shown on the die. If successful, the children receive a toy for the sea dweller caught and can puzzle it into their collecting board.
Who is the best angler and will be the first to collect five toys?
Preparation of the Game
The bottom part of the box is the sea where the fishing takes place. Place the box bottom in the center of the table and place the six sea dwellers face up in the box.
Each child takes a collecting board, then carefully pops out the cardboard pieces (toys) and places them next to the board.
Get the die and the rod ready to use.
How to Play
Which one of you most likes eating fish? You may start. Take the die and roll it.
What appears on the die?
- A color? Have faith in your angler's luck! Use the rod to try to fish for a sea dweller of this color from the sea.
- Did he bite? Good catch! Take a toy of the corresponding color and puzzle it into your board. The toy can also be seen in miniature on the dweller. If you have already puzzled the particular toy into your collecting board then unfortunately your turn is now over.
- Did you make a wrong catch? That happens, not all catches are good catches! Now you can't puzzle in any toy.
- The glitter fish? Hooray! The cutest fish is blinking at you! Take the rod and try to catch the glitter fish.
- Did he bite? Free angler's choice! You can puzzle in any toy.
- The glitter fish slipped away? You caught the wrong fish on your rod? That's a pity. You can't puzzle anything into your board.
Then you place the sea dweller you caught back, face up, into the sea. Now it's the turn of the next player in a clockwise direction to roll the die and fish with the rod.
End of the Game
The player, who is the first to puzzle all the toys into his board, has made the best catch and wins the game.
Variation: Quick Catch!
The duration of the game is shorter if you play the basic game in the following way:
If you roll a color on the die and have already puzzled in the corresponding toy you can fish again for this dweller. If you are successful at catching it you can puzzle any toy into your collecting board.
Variation for a Single Player
The solo variation is played the same as the basic game, with the following changes:
- You play with one collecting board and the corresponding puzzle pieces.
- Place each correctly caught sea dweller in front of you.
- Watch out! When fishing a sea dweller for a second time or when making a wrong catch, you have to insert a puzzle piece.
- If you have caught all the dwellers from the sea and your collecting board is not yet complete, you win. If, however, the collecting board is complete, unfortunately you lose.
