Components
- 1 double-sided game board
- 14 laying pieces (Legeformen)
- 7 square obstacle stones (Hindernissteine), red
Idea of the Game
On the side of the game board with the coloured squares, the 14 laying pieces are used to lay 7 different puzzles of increasing difficulty.
On the reverse side, using the 7 red obstacle stones, 2 players compete strategically. The winner is the player who has been able to place the most laying pieces.
Game for One Player
In this game the 14 laying pieces and the side of the game board with the coloured squares are used. This side has 49 squares in 7 colours, with 7 squares of each colour. The player's task is to cover all squares of the game board with the 14 laying pieces, with the exception of the squares of one previously chosen colour. The laying pieces are always placed with their black side facing up.
Through the use of the 7 colours, 7 different puzzles can be laid. The puzzles have different degrees of difficulty. For a beginner it is recommended to start with the red puzzle.
Each completed puzzle has its own colour effect, since the free squares of the chosen colour stand out clearly against the black surface of the laying pieces.
Game for Two Players
The game is played on the side of the game board with the 7 x 7 single-coloured squares. In addition to the 14 laying pieces, the 7 red obstacle stones are used.
The first player (determined by lot, or the loser of the previous game) places the 7 red obstacle stones on 7 squares of the game board, in any position they choose. (The stones may touch each other.)
The second player now chooses the group of two laying pieces with which he wishes to play: the angles (Winkel) or the rectangles (Rechtecke).
The first player receives the other group and begins the game. He places one of his laying pieces on the board so that it covers 3 empty squares. In doing so he uses the green upper side, which he keeps throughout this game.
The second player now likewise places one of his laying pieces on the board, with the black upper side facing up.
Play alternates in this way until no laying piece can be placed any more.
If one player can no longer place any of his laying pieces, but the opponent still has the possibility to do so, the opponent may continue placing alone until he too can no longer place any laying pieces.
The player who has been able to place the most laying pieces wins. If the number is the same, the game is a draw.
Strategy in the Game
Each player should try, in the course of the game, to place his laying pieces so skilfully that by the end of the game he has secured squares on which only his own pieces can be placed.
