Gameboard, 60 Boyfriend Cards, 4 Decks of 36 Personality Cards, 3 Plastic Card Stands, Scorepad

Object

Score the most points by guessing which boyfriends your opponents like best.

Setup

  1. Each player takes a scoresheet and a pencil.
  2. Write your name in the top shaded box on your scoresheet. Write the other players' names in the other top boxes. See Figure 1.
  3. One player shuffles the Boyfriend cards and draws the top three cards to play.
  4. Slide the Boyfriend cards into the card stands and place them behind the gameboard, as shown in Figure 2.
  5. Separate the four Personality card decks into different color piles and shuffle each pile. Place the decks in front of the gameboard, as shown in Figure 2.

Figure 1 shows a scoresheet: a "Your Name" shaded box and "Other Players' Names" boxes across the top; rows labeled "If he asks..." 1. Would you like to dance? 2. Will you go on a date with me? 3. Do you want to go steady?

Game Play

The game is played in 3 rounds.

Round 1: Would You Like to Dance?

In the first round, all three boys are asking you and your friends to dance. All players look at the boys' pictures and do the following two steps:

STEP 1. Choose your favorite boy and secretly write his name in the shaded space on your scoresheet.

STEP 2. Then, guess which boy each of the other players will choose for herself. Secretly, write your guesses in the spaces under the other players' names on the scoresheet. NOTE: You can guess the same boy for more than one player.

SCORING POINTS: After all players are finished filling in their scoresheets, each player in turn reveals her choice aloud. As choices are revealed, circle your correct guesses. Score one point for each circle and write your score for that round on your scoresheet in the position shown in Figure 3. Circle your score. NOTE: You don't score points for your own answer.

Round 2: Will You Go on a Date with Me?

In this round, the three boys are asking you and your friends to go on a date. But before you choose who you will go out with, you must learn more about the boys from the Personality cards.

PLAYING THE PERSONALITY CARDS:

  • One player draws three cards from the yellow deck, and places one card FACEUP (in order from right to left) on the matching color gameboard spaces in front of each boyfriend.
  • Do the same with three cards from the green deck.
  • Read the cards aloud and learn more about the boys.
  • Repeat STEPS 1 and 2. The Personality cards might make you choose different boyfriends in this round, and your answers may be different from your answers in Round 1.
  • Score points as you did in Round 1.

Round 3: Do You Want to Go Steady?

In this round, the three boys are asking you and your friends to go steady. Before you choose, one player draws three cards from the peach deck and places them on the gameboard as described above. Do the same for the purple deck. Read these cards aloud and learn even more about the boys.

Then repeat STEPS 1 and 2. The new cards may make you change your mind again. Your answers may be different from your answers in previous rounds.

Score points as you did in Round 1.

Winning the Game

Add your scores for all three rounds. The player who has the highest score wins the game.

TO START ANOTHER GAME: Discard all the cards (Boyfriend cards, too), and draw new cards from the deck to play again.
