Components

  • 5 home boards
  • 5 meeples
  • 1 shop board
  • 5 welcome mats
  • 84 cards: 50 furniture, 10 starting furniture, 10 rugs, 10 pot plants, 4 design objectives
  • 80 item tiles: 60 pieces of furniture (15 tiles for each of 4 rooms), 10 rugs, 10 pot plants
  • 1 scorepad

Setup

  1. Give every player a home board and a matching coloured meeple.
  2. Put the shop board in the middle of the play area, with the side matching the number of players face up (one side is for 2 players, the other side is for 3–5 players).
  3. Choose a starting player. They place their meeple on the marked spot on one end of the board. Going clockwise, each player places their meeple on the first empty spot ahead of the starting player.
  4. Sort the 80 item tiles by type and place them in a central supply: 15 furniture tiles for each of the 4 rooms (each with a different floor pattern/colour), 10 pot plants and 10 rugs.
  5. Find the 10 starting furniture cards with the house symbol, shuffle them, and deal 2 face up to each player. Return the unused starting furniture cards back to the deck of item cards.
  6. Each player finds the two pieces of furniture shown on their cards from the supply of furniture tiles and then immediately places the furniture on their home board according to the general placement rules (see below).
  7. Shuffle the remaining item cards and remove the following number of cards at random to make the game deck (put the removed cards back in the box unseen):
    • 2 or 3 players: Remove 38 cards to make a game deck of 38 cards in a 2 player game and 36 cards in a 3 player game.
    • 4 players: Remove 24 cards to make a game deck of 48 cards.
    • 5 players: Remove 10 cards to make a game deck of 60 cards.
    • Put the game deck face down beside the shop board.
  8. Draw cards from the deck and lay one face up in each space around the shop board that does not have a meeple next to it. Start from the space in front of the "queue" of meeples, and fill the spaces one-by-one going clockwise.
    • For 2 players: Some of the spots have 2 item cards and some have 1 item card.
  9. Shuffle the 4 design objective cards and choose 1 card at random. Lay this card face up beside the shop board. Put the unused design cards back in the box.
  10. Sort the 5 welcome mats into a face-up stack in ascending value, with the lowest-value mat on the bottom, and place the stack beside the shop board.
  11. Place the scorepad beside the play area, ready for use at the end of the game. You will need a pen or pencil.

Aim of the Game

Take turns to choose furniture, rugs, and pot plants and arrange them in the four rooms to create your very own happy home. Each piece can potentially earn you points, and the player with the most points wins.

How to Play

Players take turns to move their meeple clockwise around the shop board, choosing items of furniture to place into their home. The player whose meeple is at the back of the queue of meeples is always the active player. In some cases, this means a single player may be able to take two turns, one after another.

On your turn, do the following in order:

  1. Move — Move your meeple clockwise to any available spot with an item card.
    • 2 players: If you stop at a spot with 2 face-up cards, you must choose 1 card and discard the other. Remove discarded cards from the game (don't reshuffle them into the deck).
  2. Find Item — Find the matching item tile in the supply. You must be able to fit the item you choose in your home. If an item won't fit, you can't take it.
  3. Take card & place item — Take the card and place it face up beside your home board. You may find it helpful to keep cards for items from the same room together.
    • Finally, place the item tile onto your home board. Each piece of furniture must be placed into its designated room. Pot plants and rugs may be placed in any room. You may rotate a piece but not flip it over.
    • Some items must be placed with all of one edge of the tile adjacent to a wall. This is shown by the white line with triangles on the card. (For example, a TV cabinet must be placed in the Living Room with the whole length of its back edge adjacent to one wall.)
    • You must place every item tile you take into your home, and once you have placed an item, you can't move it in a later turn. You cannot place items over the spaces that show an open door, and you can never place any items (furniture, pot plants or rugs) in the hallway between rooms. But there is space outside the front door for a welcome mat!

End of Turn

At the end of your turn, draw new cards from the deck to refill all of the spaces behind whichever meeple is now at the "back" of the queue.

If all players all move past a card without stopping to take it, remove the card from the game (put it back in the box). Never reshuffle item cards back into the deck.

Welcome Mats

Once the deck is used up, continue taking turns as normal. If on your turn you cannot or choose not to take a card, instead take the most valuable welcome mat from the supply.

Place the mat on your home board by the front door, and then move your meeple from the main board and onto your mat. This is your final turn. Other players continue to take turns as normal until everyone has taken a welcome mat, then the game ends.

End of the Game

The game ends when all players have taken a welcome mat. Use the scorepad to record everyone's scores as follows:

  • Furniture — Look at each of the four rooms in turn. Earn 1, 3 or 6 points if it contains at least one item of each of the 1, 2 or all 3 different core pieces of furniture.
  • Colours — Look at each of the five colours in turn. Earn 2 points for the colour if it is on items in 3 rooms, or earn 5 points if it is on items in all 4 rooms. A colour that is on items in 2 or fewer rooms earns no points.
  • Pot plants — Every pot plant is worth 1 point, plus 1 point for every empty orthogonally adjacent floor space. An opening door space counts as an empty floor space if a pot plant is next to it.
  • Welcome mat — Score points equal to the value on your mat.
  • Rugs — Rugs don't score points on their own, but do count toward colour sets.
  • Design objective cards — Each card scores differently (see Design Objectives below).
  • Scratches — Lose 1 point for each scratch that is still visible and has not been covered up by a furniture piece.

The player with the most points in total wins. If players are tied, the tied player with the fewest number of items in total (furniture, pot plants and rugs) in their home is the winner. If players are still tied, all tied players share the victory.

Design Objectives

One of the following four cards is chosen at random during setup and scored by every player at the end of the game:

  • Perfect Fit — 3/7 for each room with at least one item that is adjacent to 3/4 other items.
  • Bigger Is Better — -1 for each empty floor space in the room with the most empty floor spaces (not counting the space by the door).
  • Finishing Touches — 3 for each room with at least 1 pot plant and 1 rug.
  • Nooks & Crannies — Score for each room with no empty corner spaces (spaces with 2 walls): Kitchen & Bathroom = 4/room; Bedroom & Lounge = 6/room.
