Mini Expansions: Shared Rules

The rules below apply to every mini expansion. Mini Expansion #1 is described in the section that follows.

Setup

  • In the base game of Hanamikoji, at the start of each round, one gift card is set aside into the box (from the top of the deck). In none of the 7 mini expansions is this done. The gift card is not set aside into the box!
  • Players choose 1 mini expansion to add to the game: each player takes 1 action card of the chosen mini expansion and places it in front of themselves.
  • Each player takes 4 markers in their colour and places them under their action card with the coloured side up.
  • The 8 markers from the base game of Hanamikoji are set aside into the box. They are not used when playing with a mini expansion.

Course of Play

The game proceeds in the same way as the base version of Hanamikoji, with the changes listed above.

The action cards show 4 actions that the player performs during the game. Each action is marked with a number (1–4). The same numbers appear on the markers.

After performing an action, the player turns over the marker (with the number of the action performed) to its black-and-white side. This shows that the action has been used.

Action Marker Description

In the descriptions below, the terms "player" and "opponent" are used. The "player" is the person whose turn it currently is.
