The Idea of the Game

The fruits from Halli Galli have grabbed their instruments and are having a party! Take turns flipping cards: As soon as you see two matching cards, try to be the first to ring the bell. The first player to hit the bell wins all the face-up cards.

At the end of the game, the player with the most cards wins.

Components

56 playing cards and 1 bell.

Setting Up the Game

Shuffle the cards and divide them evenly to all players. Each player places their cards in a face-down draw pile in front of them.

Set the bell in the middle of the table.

Playing the Game

The player who had a birthday most recently goes first. Then take turns going clockwise.

When it's your turn, flip the top card of your draw pile and place it in front of the pile so that it's clearly visible to all players.

During the course of the game, you'll each create a discard pile in front of you. Put all further cards you flip on your discard pile.

Note: When turning over a card, make sure it's facing away from you, so you don't give a disadvantage to the other players.

Ring the Bell!

On each card, you'll see one Halli Galli fruit playing music. Each of these illustrations has three important features:

  • the fruit (plum, lime, banana, or strawberry)
  • the color (purple, red, yellow, or green)
  • the instrument (microphone, drums, saxophone, or guitar)

If two of the face-up cards have at least two matching features in common, you have to ring the bell as fast as you can:

  • same fruit and same color,
  • same instrument and same fruit, or
  • same color and same instrument.

Example: two cards have the features yellow and banana in common. Ring the bell now!

Further examples shown in the rulebook: two cards show a lime and a guitar, so ring the bell. Two yellow fruits play the drums, so ring the bell. Two purple plums with microphones have been turned over: be the first to ring the bell.

If you are the first player to ring the bell, you win all the cards from all face-up discard piles. Place them under your draw pile face down. Then, turn over a card to kick off the next round.

What Happens if You Ring at the Wrong Time?

If you hit the bell at the wrong time, give one card from your draw pile to each player as a penalty. Then the player whose turn it is flips over a card and you all continue playing.

Out of Cards?

If you turn over your last card, you're still in the game! You can ring the bell and try to earn more cards, just like before. When it's your turn to flip a card, simply pass. Continue playing until you lose your discard pile as well, and then you're out of the game.

The End of the Game

The game reaches its final phase when there are only two players left. Continue playing until one of the two remaining players rings the bell. If you ring the bell at the wrong time during this phase, the other player takes all cards of both discard piles!

The player who has the most cards wins the game. In case of a tie, both players win.

Alternate Ending: If you prefer, you can continue playing until one player has all the cards. That player is the winner.
