Components

  • 5 x 6 Grimaffen tiles (30 tiles, in five colors)
  • 1 die

Setup

  1. Place the tiles face down on the table and shuffle them well. Then stack the tiles face down by color, so that 5 stacks are formed, one per color.
  2. Place the die within reach.

Goal

The goal of the game is to be the last player still in the game, by remembering the noises and grimaces made during play.

Color Categories

Each color stands for one kind of monkey nonsense:

  • Orange: Make a noise (Geräusch nachmachen)
  • Yellow: Hand nonsense (Quatsch mit den Händen)
  • Red: Grimace nonsense (Grimassen-Quatsch)
  • Green: Imitate animal sounds (Tierstimmen nachmachen)
  • Blue: Arm nonsense (Quatsch mit den Armen)

Turn Order and Starting Player

Play proceeds clockwise. The player who most recently ate a banana begins.

Playing the Game

The First Player

When it is your turn, roll the die and place one tile of the rolled color face up in the middle of the table. If you rolled the banana, you may choose any color you like. Refer to the color categories above for what each color means.

Now perform the monkey nonsense shown on the tile, then turn the tile over so that it lies face down.

Following Players

When it is your turn, roll the die and draw a tile of the matching color. If no tile of the rolled color remains, choose any other tile you like. Place it face up next to the tiles already lying face down.

Do you remember which motifs are on the face-down tiles? You must copy these in the order in which they were drawn. Then perform the monkey nonsense of the face-up tile.

If you performed all the tiles correctly:

Well remembered! Turn the tile over so that it also lies face down. Then the next player takes their turn.

If you could not perform all the tiles correctly:

Too bad, you are out of the game. If necessary, the correctness of a move may be checked by looking at individual face-down tiles. Then the next player takes their turn. This player does not reveal a new tile; instead they continue with the last revealed tile, performing the monkey nonsense of the face-down tiles and then the monkey nonsense of the face-up tile.

End of the Game

The game ends as soon as only one player remains in the game. That player is the winner and, for today, the Grimaffen King!
