Setup
1. Main Game Board
Place the Main Game Board in the center of the table, within easy reach of all players.
2. Recipe Cards
Form a draw pile from the Recipe Cards. Reveal two cards face down, showing their ingredient sides in the Recipe Market.
3. Pantry Cards
Shuffle the Pantry Cards and form a draw pile. Use the following composition (for normal difficulty):
- Value 0 – 1 card
- Value 1 – 2 cards
- Value 2 – 2 cards
- Value 3 – 1 card
4. Goal Cards
Shuffle the Goal Cards and form a draw pile.
5. Upgrades & Refreshments
Shuffle the Upgrades & Refreshments deck and form a draw pile. Reveal three cards face up to create the starting market.
6. Dice & Dice Trays
Place the Dice Tray within easy reach of all players. Add three dice per player into the tray. In a four-player game, use two dice trays (six dice in each).
Player Setup
Each player receives:
- 1 Player Board
- 1 Pantry & Marketplace Board
- 2 Goal Cards
- 4 Recipe Cards
- 1 Trash Card (back side: Player Aid)
- Completed Recipes & Score Sheet (back side: Scoring Sheet, in the chosen player color)
- 1 Dry-Erase Marker
1. Player Board
a) Name of Your Bakery: First, name your bakery. Choose the Starting Player – whoever most recently baked something delicious takes the First Player Marker.
b) Round Tracker: Mark the current round number on your Round Track.
c) Savings: Track your available Coins here. Starting Resources: 15 Coins.
d) Dice Supply: This is where you store the drafted dice you select during the round.
e) Bake if You Dare! Section: If you run out of time, this is where you'll test your luck when baking.
f) Time Track: Track your available Free Time here. Starting Resources: 10 Free Time.
g) Kitchen Upgrades: The area for your purchased permanent Upgrades, which refresh at the end of each round.
2. The Pantry & Marketplace
This is where you collect the ingredients needed for your chosen Recipes.
Basic Ingredients: Some ingredients allow you to choose between two different die values (as indicated on the board). Examples: Flours, Leavening Agents, Sugar/Salt, Oils/Fats, etc. Certain ingredients require dice that meet specific relational values: Eggs – less than 4 • Seeds & Spices – greater than 3
Special Ingredients: Chocolate & Cocoa and Chili & Hot Sauce require two dice to activate.
- Chili & Hot Sauce: requires two different die values
- Chocolate & Cocoa: requires two identical die values
3. Goal Cards
Use the burgundy Goal Card deck. Each player draws 2 cards, keeps 1, and discards the other. Competitive goals remain secret until the end of the game.
4. Recipe Cards
At the start of the game, each player receives 4 Recipe Cards. You may examine both sides of each card. Choose 1 card to keep and place it face down in front of you. Pass the remaining cards to the player on your left. Repeat this process until everyone has 3 Recipe Cards in front of them. Discard the remaining card. All Recipes in front of you are considered started and must be baked during the game.
5. Trash Card
Place your failed or spoiled Recipes here.
6. Completed Recipes
Place your successfully baked Recipes here once sold.
7. Dry-Erase Marker
Use this marker to write on your Recipe Cards, Player Boards, and Score Sheet.
Game Flow
The game consists of 3 rounds, and each round contains 4 turns.
Game Flow – Player Turn
1. Reveal a Pantry Card: Flip the top Pantry Card face up – this shows how many ingredients you receive for free during this turn.
2. Roll the Dice: Roll all dice into the dice tray! Then, in turn order, each player selects one die at a time until everyone has three dice in their Dice Supply. In a four-player game, use two dice trays (six dice per tray). One tray starts with the First Player, and the other starts with the second player to their left.
3. Using Your Dice: You can use your selected dice in several ways.
a) Gathering Ingredients:
Place one of your dice on an ingredient space on your Pantry & Marketplace Board that matches its requirement. Then, check the revealed Pantry Card to see how many free ingredients you gain this turn. Mark the ingredients on your Recipe Cards, and store any surplus in your Pantry. All players perform this step simultaneously. You may apply the same ingredient to multiple different recipes, but once an ingredient is marked, it cannot be moved.
Example: You place a die on the Dairy space. The revealed Pantry Card shows 2, so you receive 2 Dairy for free. Mark one Dairy on one of your Recipes, and store the other in your Pantry.
If you gain more ingredients than you can use immediately, you may store the excess in your Pantry – you can use them at any later time.
b) Buying Ingredients:
After collecting your free ingredients based on the revealed Pantry Card, you may also purchase additional units of any ingredient you have activated. Each ingredient costs as many Coins as the value of the die placed on it.
Example: You activated Leavening (starter) with a value-3 die, and you want to buy two extra units to keep as surplus in your Pantry. Those two units cost 6 Coins total (3 × 2). Mark this on your Savings Track by deducting 6 Coins – your 9 Coins are reduced to 3.
For special ingredients that require two dice to activate, you only pay for one die:
- Chili & Hot Sauce: pay the higher of the two dice values.
- Chocolate & Cocoa: pay the value of either die, since they are identical.
c) Drawing a New Goal Card:
At any time during your turn, you may purchase one additional Goal Card from the central board by spending one die of any value. Only one player at a time may do this, in player order. When you do: 1. Draw 2 Goal Cards, 2. Keep 1, 3. Discard the other.
d) Saving Time or Coins:
If you decide not to use your dice in the Pantry & Marketplace, you may save them in two different ways:
Placing dice on the Time Track grants extra Free Time:
- 1 die → +1 free time
- 2 dice → +3 free time
- 3 dice → +6 free time
Example: You place two dice on your Time Track, gaining +3 Free Time, which you then add to your current total and mark the new value accordingly.
Placing dice on the Savings Track grants extra Coins:
- 1 die → +2 coin
- 2 dice → +5 coin
- 3 dice → +10 coin
4. Upgrades & Refreshments
On the Main Game Board, three face-up cards form the Upgrades & Refreshments Market. At the end of each turn, in player order, each player may purchase one card (optional).
When buying a card:
- Pay its cost, shown in Coins or Free Time.
- Place a permanent Upgrade in the lower section of your Player Board.
- Set aside a single-use Refreshment until you decide to activate it.
- When you take a card from the Upgrades & Refreshments Market, immediately refill its empty slot from the draw pile, then slide the remaining cards one space to the right.
- At the end of the turn, discard the rightmost card in the row, and refill the row from the draw pile.
Refreshments (Drinks – Single-Use Effects)
Each Refreshment can be used once, at any time during your own turn. After using it, place it face down beside your Player Board. At the end of the game, each used Refreshment is worth 1 Victory Point.
Upgrades (Tools – Renewable Effects)
You pay the cost of an Upgrade only when you purchase it. Place it in the Upgrade area of your Player Board. You may have a maximum of 3 Upgrades at any time. When you use an Upgrade, mark it on your board. At the end of each round, all renewable Upgrades become usable again at no additional cost.
Important Notes
- You may activate Upgrades and Refreshments at any time during your own turn.
- Refreshing the entire Upgrades & Refreshments Market costs 2 Coins.
- If you wish to buy a new Upgrade, you may sell one of your existing Upgrades for half its value (rounded down).
- You may only use the new Upgrade if the previous one has not been activated during the current round.
- Dice-modifying effects may also be applied when rolling dice from a card effect, or during the "Bake if You Dare!" action if your roll is unfavorable.
5. Choosing New Recipe Cards
At the end of each turn, in player order, you may take new Recipe Cards – optionally more than one – from:
- the market display,
- the top of the draw pile, or
- the top of the discard pile.
This step is optional. The market must always be refilled so that the ingredient side of each Recipe Card is visible. Refreshing the entire Recipe Market costs 2 Coins.
6. Prepare for the Next Turn
Pass the First Player Marker and the dice tray to the player on your left.
Then begin the next turn.
Continue until all four Pantry Cards of the round have been revealed.
Baking Recipes
When the fourth Pantry Card of the round has been resolved, proceed to the Baking Phase. Now, check which of your Recipes can be completed – meaning that all required ingredients have been marked off.
Each Recipe has a maximum of two rounds to be completed.
1. Baking
Once all the necessary ingredients have been marked on a Recipe, there's only one thing left to do – bake the dough!
You can do this in two ways:
1) Baking with Time
If you have enough Free Time (as shown on your Time Track), you may spend it to bake your Recipes.
- Each Recipe shows its baking time requirement.
- Subtract this amount from your Time Track.
- If you bake multiple Recipes in the same turn, add up their baking times.
Example: You've gathered all ingredients for the Cherry Sponge Cake, so you're ready to bake. Check its baking time (3 Time), and subtract 3 from your Time Track.
2) Baking with the "Bake if You Dare!" Roll
If you don't have enough Free Time, you may still attempt to bake by rolling a die (see Bake if You Dare!). If you want to bake multiple Recipes this way, you must roll separately for each one – clearly announce which Recipe you are attempting before each roll.
The possible results are:
- 1-2: Success: Add the Recipe to your Completed Recipes pile and gain the Coin reward.
- 3-4: Partial Success: Add the Recipe to your Completed Recipes pile, but you do not receive any Coins.
- 5-6: Failure: The bake burns; move the Recipe to the Trash. You earn no Coins.
Example: You didn't have enough time to bake the Dobos Torte, so you tried a "Bake if You Dare!" roll instead. Unfortunately, you rolled a 6 – the cake burned, and the Recipe goes to the Trash.
2. Resting
If you cannot finish a Recipe this round but plan to complete it in the next one, turn the card sideways to indicate that it is partially done and will continue next round.
Resting Recipes must be completed in the following round, or they are moved to the Trash.
3. Trash
Place spoiled or burned Recipes in the Trash by sliding the Recipe Card under your Trash Card.
At the end of the game, you lose 5 points for each Recipe in your Trash.
Every Recipe in front of you counts as unfinished, even if you haven't marked any ingredients on it. So think carefully about how many extra Recipes you take beyond the mandatory three.
4. Selling Completed Products – Collecting Coins
Collect the earnings from your successful bakes. For each Recipe you have successfully baked this round:
- Gain Coins equal to its Victory Point value.
- Erase all markings from the Recipe Card.
- Place it under your Completed Recipes pile.
Example: The Swiss Roll is finished – you baked and sold it, so you gain 5 Coins, which you mark on your Savings Track. Erase all markings from the card, then place it under your Completed Recipes pile.
5. Prepare for the Next Round
- Pass the First Player Marker and the dice tray to the player on your left.
- Renew the Recipe Market: discard all face-up Recipes on the main board and deal new ones.
- Shuffle and prepare the Pantry Card deck.
- Slide all Upgrade and Refreshment cards one space to the right; discard the rightmost card and draw a new one to refill the row.
- Mark the next round number on your Round Track.
- Erase used markings on your renewable Upgrades to make them usable again.
End of the Game & Scoring
The game ends after the third round. Add up your points as follows and record the total on the Scoring Sheet (the back of your Completed Recipes card):
- Completed Recipes: add together the Victory Point values shown on all your completed Recipe Cards.
- Goal Cards: add the points from each Goal Card you achieved.
- Upgrades & Refreshments:
- Each used (activated) Upgrade is worth 2 points.
- Each unused (not activated) Upgrade is worth 3 points.
- Each Refreshment card (drink, single-use effect) is worth 1 point.
- Savings: For every 3 leftover Coins and unused ingredients remaining in your Pantry, gain 1 point.
- Trash: Subtract 5 points for each Recipe in your Trash.
The player with the most points wins!
Tiebreakers:
- If tied, the player with the most stars (Recipe difficulty symbols) wins.
- If still tied, players share the victory.
Scoring in Solo and Cooperative Modes: Instead of competing, try to achieve the highest possible rank based on your total score:
Rank:
| Score | Rank |
|---|---|
| 90+ | Prodigy |
| 80-89 | Master Baker |
| 60-79 | Experienced |
| 50-59 | Rising Star |
| 40-49 | Apprentice |
| 30-39 | Enthusiastic Helper |
| Below 30 points | Novice |
Game Modes
Easier Mode – "Kids Mode" (with Sweets)
Recommended for players under 10 years old. You can simplify the game by removing all Upgrades & Refreshments cards – this skips the buying phase at the end of each turn. You may also skip Goal Card selection entirely.
At the start of each round, roll one die for a bonus:
- Gain Coins equal to the result, or
- Gain Free Time equal to the result.
Using Sweets in Kids Mode: On your Player Board, place three identical Sweets cards (the same for all players) in the Upgrade area.
- They behave like Upgrades and become usable again at the start of each round.
- At the end of the game: Activated Sweets are worth 0 points. Unused Sweets are worth 3 points each.
Difficulty Levels
1. By Pantry Card Composition: In every game, use 6 Pantry Cards. Their composition depends on the chosen difficulty level:
| Value | Easy | Normal (recommended) | Hard |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | - | 1 card | 2 cards |
| 1 | 2 cards | 2 cards | 2 cards |
| 2 | 2 cards | 2 cards | 2 cards |
| 3 | 2 cards | 1 card | - |
2. By Starting Resources: You can also adjust difficulty by changing the starting resources:
- Normal (recommended for your first game): 15 coins, 10 free time
- Easy: 20 coins, 12 free time
- Hard: 10 coins, 8 free time
3. In Four-Player Games: When gathering ingredients in a 4-player game, two dice trays circulate around the table. If both trays catch up to each other, the player who receives both at the same time may draft only 2 dice instead of the usual 3 that turn.
Cooperative Mode
In this game mode, players work together toward shared goals chosen collectively. Although the objectives are common, each player contributes their own ideas and strategies to achieve joint success. You can also play as a team competition, for example in 2v2 pairs. Prepare the Cooperative Game Board before starting.
Goal Cards:
Use the turquoise Goal Card deck. Each player draws 2 Goal Cards, keeps 1, and places it on one of the spaces of the Cooperative Board. The discarded cards go to the Goal discard pile. By mutual agreement, players may draw additional Goal Cards from the main board at any time.
Example: In a 3-player cooperative game, you must complete 3 public Goal Cards to win. Place these cards on the shared Cooperative Board for everyone to see.
The team must complete as many Goal Cards as there are players in the game.
Supporting Each Other
In this mode, players can help one another in various ways:
- If a player cannot afford a Refreshment but urgently needs its benefit (e.g., extra Free Time or an ingredient), teammates may contribute Coins to help pay for it.
- If a player has extra ingredients in their Pantry, they may donate them to another player.
- If someone has drawn Recipes that don't fit well with their setup, players may exchange Recipe Cards.
1. Donation Action:
Once per round, two players may agree to exchange up to 2 ingredients in return for Free Time. As a reward, the donor gains +1 Free Time for each ingredient given, marking it on their Time Track.
This bonus Free Time is not deducted from the receiving player – it is simply a reward for generosity.
In Team Mode, the amount of donations is also indicated: 1x: maximum of 2 ingredients per donation.
2. Recipe Exchange Action
Once per round, you may:
- Exchange one unstarted Recipe with another player, or
- Exchange one unstarted Recipe Card with one from the market display.
3. Buying Refreshments for Other Players (Treating a Friend):
Once per round, you may purchase one Refreshment and give it to another player who needs it.
"A good neighbor can turn even the bad into good." – Hungarian proverb
Winning the Game: If all Goal Cards have been successfully completed, the team wins the game! At the end of the game, each player gains the Victory Points from the completed Goal Cards during scoring. Additionally, you may evaluate individual performance levels based on the ranking thresholds listed on page 13 (Scoring Table).
Solo Mode
The Solo Mode plays similarly to the Competitive Mode, but instead of other players, you compete against the CookieBot.
For this mode, you will need the Solo Board.
Differences
1. Recipe Selection: At the start of the game, draw 4 Recipe Cards. Keep 3 and discard 1. There is no drafting in Solo Mode.
For easier distinction, each color is also represented by a unique pattern.
2. Rolling and Selecting Dice:
a. Roll: Roll all 6 dice.
b. Placing Dice: Randomly place all 6 dice on the colored spaces of the Solo Board, ignoring their values.
c. CookieBot's Action: Flip the top card of the CookieBot deck. It shows which color spaces the bot removes dice from. Move all removed dice to the lower section of the Solo Board – these dice cannot be used.
d. Player's Dice: You may use the remaining 3 dice as normal.
CookieBot's dice can only be used if a specific Upgrade or Refreshment allows it.
3. Buying Upgrades:
Blocking Cards: CookieBot may block Upgrades and Refreshments.
If this happens, the blocked card is immediately discarded, and you may only choose from two remaining cards.
All other rules remain the same as in the multiplayer mode.
For scoring and ranking, refer to the Scoring Table on page 13.
