The Deck

The deck includes 60 cards, consisting of 30 food cards, 20 weapon cards and 10 special cards.

Set-Up

Shuffle all of the cards into one deck and put that deck on one side of the table. Cards that are discarded will make up the discard pile, placed face-up next to the deck.

Before the game begins, deal out a number of cards face-up in the center of the table, equal to one more than the number of players. This is the table supply. If any cards are taken from the table, immediately replace them from the deck.

As the game progresses, each character can have up to two cards in play, one for each hand, or one card requiring two hands. If at any time a player has more than two cards in their hands (or more than two hands' worth of cards), they must choose and discard extra cards. Cards in play stay face-up, and anyone can see every card in hand at any time. Players start with no cards in play.

Note: The etiquette of the game suggests that the players keep both hands on the table, one on each card in play.

Each player will also have a scoring pile (otherwise known as their stomach) where cards will be placed face-down in front of them.

The Matron

If there are no food cards in play (including both the table supply and in the players' hands), discard all weapon and special cards from play (again including both the table supply and players' hands). Then re-deal cards from the deck to the table supply as normal.

Note: If there is no food left out, the matron gets angry because nobody is eating, and takes all the toys away!

Playing the Game

On the player's turn, they can take one action, from the following four options:

Note: The "Player Turn Options" card is a useful reference, but you probably wont need it after the first game.

Grab!

Get food and weapons fast!

Take a food or weapon card from the table supply and put it in your hand. Immediately refill the card pool by adding a card from the draw deck.

Steal!

If someone has better stuff than you, take it! Just watch out for tougher goblins!

If you have a better weapon in hand than another player (higher value), you may attack that player, taking one food or weapon card from their hand. If this would make them have more than two hands' worth of cards, they must discard a card.

If a character has two weapon cards in hand, add those numbers together. A player with no weapon in hand has a weapon value of zero.

Eat!

If you have food, eat it!

If the character has a food card in hand, they may "eat" that card, putting it face-down on top of their scoring pile.

Eating food is the only way to score points. It is important not only to eat your food, but to watch what other players are eating so you can know who your toughest competition is.

Players can always check to see how many cards are in each other player's scoring pile, but cannot see which specific food they have eaten.

Special Action!

Take a special action card from the center card pool. Immediately play it, following the text on the card and putting the card in the discard pile.

After taking one action, their turn is over and it becomes the next player's turn.

Note: Some actions, such as taking grab-berries or feeding frenzy, allow the player to take an extra turn. If so, take that turn immediately.

Ending the Game

The game ends immediately when the deck is gone and someone tries to draw a card. Players immediately "eat" all food in their hands.

How to Win

At the end of breakfast, the player with the most points in their scoring pile wins the game. Each food card has a number value. Add all of those points together. The highest point value wins!
