Materials for the Game

  • 5 dance floors (Centre Stage with Extra Stage on the back)
  • 56 counters consisting of: 36 Guest counters, 4 VIPs, 3 Stars, 1 Band, 6 Coins, 6 Action counters (2 Party Flyers, 2 Party Calls and 2 Party People)
  • 5 tokens
  • 1 die (with numbers 1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 5)

Object of the Game

It's Saturday evening and lots of guests are waiting outside the discotheques to be let in. As the host of their clubs the players are trying to control entry and to get as many guests as possible onto their dance floors.

Preparing for the Game

Each player takes a dance floor (Centre Stage) and the token of the same colour. The dance floor is placed with the large area (25 squares) facing upwards in front of the player. If there are 2 players the dance floors are extended by one Extra Stage each. For this purpose each player takes one of the remaining dance floors and lays it with the area with the 12 squares next to his own dance floor. The tokens and dance floors not required are put back into the box.

The 6 action counters (Party Flyers, Party Calls, Party People) remain in the box; they are only needed for the other version of the game.

The three Stars are put aside, face-up. The Band is laid out. All other counters (incl. Coins) are mixed and laid out in random order in a long serpentine line one behind the other, starting from the Band. The counters form the queue waiting in front of the entrance to the disco where the hip Band is to play tonight.

The tokens are placed at the end of the line one after the other in random order.

How to Play: "On with the party!"

The player whose token is placed furthest to the back casts the die. He then decides if he wants to move forward by the number of points he has thrown. If he does not move, the player whose token is next in sequence must decide if he wants to move with this score, etc. It goes on like this until a player moves his token. If in a given round none of the players wants to move, the player whose token is located farthest to the back again casts the die.

If one player in the line moves forwards, he counts the number of the counters in front of his token (other tokens are not counted). The player then takes the counter reached, puts his token in its place and lays the counter on a free space on his dance floor. In the course of the game the counters may be shifted anywhere on the player's own dance floor (or, if there are only 2 players, also between the two dance floors), and rearranged.

The tokens always move forwards towards the Band, never backwards. Once a player has moved his token, the next player to throw the die is the one whose token is farthest back. This may well be the same player.

EXAMPLE: Red throws a 2; Red does not wish to move. Blue moves and gets the green 2 counter. The red token is still the one furthest back. Red now casts a 3, moves and gets the blue 3 counter. Green casts the die next.

Guests and Cliques

There are different Cliques, which are identifiable by the same background colours. There are four of the same 1, three of the same 2 or groups with one 1, one 2 and one 3 token (see illustration). A player who gets a Clique counter in a colour in which he already has a counter may take all the remaining counters of the Clique immediately and take them to his dance floor. For this it is irrelevant if the counters are still in the serpentine line or are already on the dance floors belonging to other players.

Caution: The 4 VIPs (fours counters) do not belong to a Clique (each one an individual Clique); this means that the player who lures a second VIP to his dance floor does not automatically obtain the other two VIPs.

Example: Blue casts a 4 and moves forward four steps himself. He takes the blue 2 counter. Since he already has one counter from the same Clique (blue one) on his dance floor, he may also take the missing third counter. In this case from the yellow player.

Coins and Stars

A player who takes a Coin places it down next to his dance floor. If a player has managed to get hold of a second Coin, he can engage a "Star". For this purpose he puts both Coins back into the box and takes one of the Stars waiting apart and places it on his dance floor.

End of the Game and the Winner

The game ends when one of the players has completely filled his dance floor with party guests (or even overfilled it: the last guests do not have to fit completely onto the dance floor). This is the player who wins.

The game also ends when a player moves his token onto or over the Band. This player can take the Band with him straight onto his dance floor. The one who then has the fewest free spaces on his dance floor wins.

Version of the Game Played with Action Counters

In this version of the game the 6 action counters are also mixed into the serpentine line at the beginning. A player who moves his token onto (the sentence ends here in the printed rules; each action counter's effect follows):

Party Flyer: If the word about the great party spreads to the other discotheques, the guests of those discos may also come to their own club. The player is allowed to take a counter or a Coin from another player, but not a Star. A player who in this way gets a counter from a Clique of which he already has one counter may – as he would otherwise also be permitted to do – take the whole Clique, no matter where the individual counters are located.

Party Call (cell phone): Good friends who come too late and have to queue up for a long time can call on the cell phone and are then picked up personally. The player immediately moves his token back to any counter he likes, but must not be last. The player then takes the counter.

Party People (guest list): Anyone on the guest list can ignore the queue. Even if someone is late, he is allowed in immediately. The player may take a Party Guest or a Coin if they have already been passed by all of the tokens. Action counters may not be taken.
