- 18 fishing lines with a "handle" on one end and 2 x 8 different fishes, an old boot and a can on the other end
- 8 different fish cards
- Rules
Tip: The denser the pile is, the harder it is to get an overview. The further it is spread, the better it is to see!
Preparation
- Shuffle the cards and place them on the table as a face-down stack.
- Place all lines on the table and "mix up loosely" as shown in the picture.
Playing the Game
Starting
The youngest child starts. She uncovers the top card of the stack and puts it on the table, well visible.
And ... from now on everybody plays at the same time!
- With the eyes only, each child searches the confusion of fishing lines for one of the two identical fishes shown on the card.
- With the eyes only, one tracks the fishing line and taps the appropriate handle with a finger.
- Each child may only tip on one handle in every turn.
- If several children tip on the same handle, the child who was the first to put its finger on the handle may pull the fish out of the confusion at the end of the turn. The other child(ren) may continue looking and tip on another handle, if appropriate.
It is forbidden to search through the pile with one's fingers in order to find a fish, or to pull the lines and handles and to touch them before tipping.
The First Part of the Turn Is Over
The first part of the turn ends:
- when everybody tipped on a handle;
- or, if at least two players tipped and the other players "give up";
- or – if only one of two identical fishes is left on the pile – if at least one player tipped and the other players "give up".
Pulling Out the Fish
Now everybody who tipped a handle may pull his handle out of the confusion:
- If you caught the correct fish, you place it in front of yourself.
- If the fish is incorrect, it is thrown back.
- The boot or can is also thrown back.
- In addition, a fish that was already caught must also be returned – if you already have one.
For the next turn, the next player (clockwise) uncovers the next card – and we continue!
End of the Game
In most cases the game ends when all fish cards have been uncovered and therefore all fishes have been caught. Whoever caught the most fish at this time is the winner!
Sometimes, if "the eyes did not fish very well", there will be a few lines left although all cards have been uncovered. Then simply shuffle the stack again and continue playing until all the fishes have found an owner.
Have fun!
Variant for Two Players
In this case, one player takes the 8 double fishes with their lines out of play. The rules are the same.
