1 moon token

12 wolf tiles, divided according to the scheme below:

1 track2 tracks3 tracks
3 black wolves111
3 red wolves111
3 white wolves111
3 grey wolves111

Object of the Game

To reach the moon, 4 wolves of different colours must be stacked one above the other.

The first player who places 4 wolves of different colours one above the other wins the game.

From now on in these rules, the wolves are represented by black, red, white and grey squares bearing the number given by their number of "tracks".

Example: a black wolf with "3 tracks" is shown as a black square marked 3.

Setup

Mix the 12 wolf tiles and lay them out at random in a line, so that the 12 wolves sit side by side.

Place the moon tile to one side, where it will wait for the first move.

The player on the side of the wolves' feet starts the game (i.e. the player who sees the wolves upright).

On the first move, they must move a wolf with "1 track".

Example of a starting layout: black 1, white 1, red 3, black 3, grey 2, black 2, red 2, white 3, red 1, grey 3, grey 1, white 2.

Example: Because this is the first move, the player must play one of the wolves marked above by an arrow (the four wolves with 1 track: black 1, white 1, red 1 and grey 1).

How to Play

Wolves are moved by placing them below or above the wolves of the starting row.

A wolf with "1 track" moves one space (so that it joins its neighbour on the left or the right).

A wolf with "2 tracks" must be moved two spaces (so that it joins the second neighbour on the left or the right).

A wolf with "3 tracks" must be moved three spaces (so that it joins the third neighbour on the left or the right).

If the turn is played by the "South" player, the moved wolf is placed below the other wolf.

If the turn is played by the "North" player, the moved wolf is placed above the other wolf.

Example: The first player, "South", must play a wolf with "1 track". They decide to move the white wolf with "1 track" to the right. The white wolf is placed under the red wolf (the red 3), and the row closes up to 11 columns.

Important: A single column may not contain two wolves of the same colour, which blocks some moves.

Example: The player may not move the grey wolf with "1 track" to the left, because there would then be 2 grey wolves in the same column (the grey 1 would land on the grey 3).

Moving the Moon

Whenever a player moves wolves, they must also move the moon token to the new column (the wolf's destination column) and choose where to place it (below or above the column).

The moon's move affects the opponent's next move: they must play either a wolf with the same number of tracks, or a wolf of the same colour, as the wolf the moon points to.

Example: The next player must play a red wolf or a wolf with "3 tracks", because the moon has been placed above the red wolf with "3 tracks".

Example (continued): The next player ("North") must play either a red wolf or a wolf with "3 tracks". They decide to move the white wolf with "3 tracks" to the right (it is placed above the grey wolf with "1 track").

They then decide to place the moon token above the white wolf with "3 tracks", to force the next player to play either a wolf with "3 tracks" or a white wolf.

Note that it would also have been possible to place the moon token below the grey wolf with "1 track", which would force the next player to play either another grey wolf or a wolf with "1 track".

Moving Several Wolves at Once

If a column contains two or three wolves, the player may move the wolf nearest to them in that column, but they may also move it together with the wolf directly on top of it, or together with the two wolves directly on top of it. In that case, the wolf nearest the player dictates the move of the group.

Reminder: You may not have two wolves of the same colour in one column. For a move to be possible, none of the wolves in the column being moved may have the same colour as the wolf/wolves in the destination column.

Example: It is the "South" player's turn. Because of the moon's position, they must play a white wolf or a wolf with "3 tracks". They decide to play the white wolf with "1 track", but moving it as a "pack" with the red wolf with "3 tracks". They decide to move the "pack" of wolves to the right.

Example (continued further): They then decide to place the moon token below the white wolf with "1 track". The next player must play another white wolf, or a wolf with "1 track". (The pack of the red 3 and the white 1 now sits below the black 3.)

Who Wins

The first player who creates a column of 4 wolves (one white, one red, one grey and one black) is declared the winner and reaches the moon.

Example of a win: a column made of a grey 2 on top, then a black 3, a red 3 and a white 1.

Special case: If a player cannot make a legal move, they miss their turn, and their opponent immediately changes the wolf they had chosen earlier.
