The game proceeds on each player's turn. Clockwise from the starting player, each player takes turns in the following order:

  1. Choose one from 3 candidate tiles.
  2. According to the rules, place the selected tiles so that they are connected to the tiles in the field. (See "Placement of land tiles")
  3. Draw a tile from the top of the deck and place it face up in addition to the candidate tiles.
  4. Finish your turn.

Each player takes turns until all tiles have been placed in play.

Candidate tile diagram (printed labels): (1) choose one from the candidate tiles; (2) connect to the tiles in the field and place; (3) make it a candidate tile that draws one card from the top of the deck.

Let's Pioneer: Placement of Land Tiles

The tiles depict the following four types of areas, roads and fences: grassland, waterfront, village, and field.

Printed examples: grassland; waterfront; village (with fence); field (wheat, cotton, vegetables); road; fence.

Placement of Land Tiles

The player selects one of the candidate tiles and connects it to the tiles in the field according to the following rules to proceed with the development. To go.

  • Place it so that at least one side is connected to the tiles in the field.
  • Only the same area can be connected.
  • If there is a road, connect it so that the road continues.

★ If you can't connect all of the candidate tiles to the tiles in the field, mix them face down with the deck, put out 3 candidate tiles again, and put the rest face down into the deck.

Fields and fences. Fields: There are 3 types (wheat, cotton, vegetables), and any type can be connected. Fences: Unlike roads, they don't need to be connected in a continuous fashion. You can put it anywhere in the grassland.

Examples.

  • You need to connect at least one side, so you can shift the tiles (blue). Cannot be placed apart (red).
  • Fence: Unlike roads, there is no need to connect them in a continuous manner. Can be placed anywhere in grassland.
  • Field: 3 types (wheat, cotton, vegetables), and any kind can be combined.
  • I can't connect because the area is different.
  • It's the same area, but the road is cut off.
  • Roads are connected in the same area.

A completed area is an area that is surrounded by other areas, roads, or fences and cannot be expanded by connecting tiles any more. By completing an area, you can secure the resources there or create a special area.

  • Completed waterfront (lake)
  • Completed field
  • Completed village
  • Completed road
  • Completed meadow

Completed road: A road is completed when both ends lead to villages.

Printed caption: it is surrounded by fields, villages, roads and fences.

Player sheet, "complete the area": Areas that are surrounded by other areas and can no longer be expanded by connecting tiles are completed areas.

  • Grasslands: Grasslands can be closed by roads and fences, as well as by other areas such as fields.
  • Path: A path is complete when both ends lead to villages.
  • Village: A completed village (or grassland) with 3 or more houses is a pioneer village.
  • Heart: Heart-shaped completed areas (lakes, villages, fields) made of two tiles.

Resources: Things in the Area

There are various resources in the area. There are seven types, and completing areas and securing them is the objective of many orders.

The seven resources are shown as icons: sheep (black sheep is shown as a separate icon), cow, wood, stone, soil, fish, and buildings (house and yurt, marked with the 家 symbol).
