Components
10-15 minutes. Ages 8+. Components: 14 cards (4 Lily Pad Cards, 8 Bug Score Cards, 1 Rules Card, 1 Credits Card), 1 Frog Disc.
Set Up
Place the 4 Lily Pad cards, equally spaced across the playing surface, between both players. Shuffle the Bug Score Cards and place them flower-side down, stacked within easy reach of both players. The youngest player picks up the frog disc and begins the game.
Flipping Frogs
On a player's turn he will flip the Frog Disc towards the Lily Pad Card indicated by the Bug Score Card on top of the pile (see Bug Score Cards). Frogs are flipped the same way a coin is flipped; resting on the index finger and propelled by a flick of the thumb. When flipping the frog, the player's hand must not come into contact with the playing surface. When flipping, the player may thrust his arm forward to gain momentum but his hand must not pass the edge of the first Lily Pad Card. If the Frog Disc falls off the edge of the playing surface, the opposing player gets two turns in a row next time!
Bug Score Cards
The Bug Score Cards are two-sided: one side with a flower and one without. The number of bugs on the Bug Score Cards represent the number of points earned and the target Lilypad for that turn. Example: If the top Bug Score Card shows 3 bugs, the player is aiming for the third Lily Pad Card from their side of the table.
When flipping, if the Frog Disc makes any contact with the target Lily Pad Card and continues to move, landing elsewhere, that player is successful and places the Bug Score Card in front of them flower-side down. If any part of the Frog Disc stops movement directly on the target Lily Pad Card, that player is successful and places the Bug Score Card in front of them flower-side up. If the player is unsuccessful, the turn ends and passes the Frog Disc to the other player who attempts to claim the same Bug Score Card.
How to Win
Players continue taking turns until either:
-
all of the Bug Score Cards run out. (The player with the most points wins. If there is a tie, the player with the most flower-side up cards wins.) Or...
-
one player wins a total of 5 Bug Score Cards. (This player wins even if the Bug Score Card pile has not yet been emptied.)
4-Player Variant
Combine two sets of FrogFlip to add two more players to the fun! Shuffle all 16 Bug Score Cards together. Set up the Lily Pad Cards in a "+" on the playing surface. The player with the most points when all Bug Score Cards are gone, or the first player to win 9 Bug Score Cards, wins the game.
