Goal of the Game

The kiwis can finally go on vacation! But boarding is far from simple, because nobody wants to sit next to just anyone. Kiwis prefer to travel in groups of four, and that's exactly your goal: the first player who manages to form a square in the crate with four of their kiwis wins the game immediately. Otherwise, the kiwis will keep being catapulted until they are all in the crate. The winner is then the player who has the most points.

Contents

  • 1 cardboard stand, to be placed under the board
  • 1 game board, to be set up in the bottom of the box
  • 1 grid, to divide the kiwi crate into compartments
  • 4 launch ramps fitted with an elastic band
  • 40 kiwis (10 per color)

Setup

Before the First Game

  • Assemble the stand as shown in the illustration and place it in the bottom of the box.
  • Carefully detach the kiwis from the die-cut sheets.

Before Each Game

  • Take out the kiwis and set up the board on the stand in the bottom of the box.
  • Place the dividers on top by assembling the 6 cardboard strips.
  • Your play area is now divided into 16 compartments. Set the box down between you, in the middle of the table.
  • All that's left is to put together the 4 launch ramps, and the game can begin! (Follow the six numbered diagrams for folding the dividers and assembling a launch ramp.)

Player Setup

Each player takes a ramp, which they place in front of them, along with the 10 kiwis of the color of their choice. With fewer than 4 players, the remaining kiwis are removed from the game.

Before the first game, it's a good idea to practice catapulting the kiwis a bit. Place a kiwi on the ramp. The best method is to pull the elastic band gently downward with your fingertip. When you release it, the kiwi flies in an arc and lands…, hopefully…, in the crate!

How to Play

You all play at the same time! That makes sense — the kiwis are in a hurry to go on vacation! One of you gives the starting signal. Now it's up to you to try to send your kiwis into the crate's compartments using the ramps. But be careful: the situation keeps changing, since everyone is aiming for the same 16 compartments. It can quickly happen that your kiwis get covered by other players' kiwis! But in the end, only the kiwis or stacks of kiwis with your color visible on top will count.

You're free to choose the distance between your ramp and the box. You're allowed to relaunch a kiwi that lands next to the box. It's forbidden to touch the board with your hand or to hold your hand above it. A kiwi that lands on the game board can no longer be moved. A player with no kiwis left waits for the game to end.

End of the Game

The first player who manages to form a square anywhere on the board with four of their kiwis (each in a different compartment) immediately shouts "Ki-win!"

The other players must then stop and check whether the game is actually over. If that player has formed a square made up of 4 kiwis of the same color visible in the compartments, that player has immediately won. Their kiwis go on vacation, delighted to be sitting next to their best friends!

If nobody manages to form a square with their kiwis, keep playing until all the kiwis have landed in the crate. First remove from the game any kiwis left balanced on the grid, meaning those that didn't fall into a compartment. Each player then takes, in front of them, all the stacks topped by a kiwi of their color. Everyone counts all the kiwis they have collected (regardless of color). Whoever has the most kiwis wins the game.

Example

All the players send their kiwis toward the crate. Lisa manages to form a square with her kiwis: four of her kiwis are visible in the compartments and form a square. Lisa immediately shouts "Ki-win!" She wins this game.

Lisa has formed a square. She wins immediately.

If Lisa hadn't managed to form a square, the other players would have kept catapulting their kiwis. Once all the kiwis were in the crate, everyone would have taken, in front of them, the stacks of compartments topped by their own kiwis, and counted the number of kiwis collected.

Nobody has formed a square. The players keep sending their kiwis until they are all in the crate. Lisa is yellow and collects 3 stacks, Luca is blue and collects 5 stacks, Anna collects 4 (green), and Tessa 4 (pink). Everyone then counts the number of kiwis collected. Lisa has collected the most kiwis and wins the game.
