Part 1: Mort, The Teenage Dirtbag
Components
- 10 Suspect cards
- 2 Final Girl cards
- 3 Dark Power cards
- 1 Epic Dark Power card
- 1 Basic Finale card
- 2 Action cards
- 17 Double-sided Clue cards
- 1 Clue Viewer
- 1 Killer board
- 1 Suspect bag
- 10 Suspect tokens
- 5 Reminder tokens (numbered 1-5)
- 1 Horror Track token
- 9 Informant meeples
- 16 Terror cards
- 13 Miniatures
Special Setup
Note! There is a special Finale Secret Envelope included with Mort. DO NOT OPEN it until you are instructed to! Otherwise, it will spoil the surprise.
- Place the Basic Finale card on the Killer board. It will be used for the Killer Action until the Finale is revealed.
- Add the Interrogate and Coerce Action cards to the Action Tableau.
- Place the 10 Suspect cards in a row above the board with their attributes side showing.
- Place the 10 Suspect tokens in the Suspect bag.
- Mort does not start on the board. Instead, he is wearing one of 10 possible disguises. After placing the Victims and Final Girl on the Location board, take the 10 Suspect miniatures and randomly place each Suspect on an empty space (meaning there are no other characters on the space) until there are either no empty spaces left or no Suspects left to place. If there are no empty spaces and Suspects still need to be placed, place them in the furthest spaces from you that contain Victims, but only 1 Suspect per space.
Special Rules
Suspects
You are attempting to figure out who Mort is actually masquerading as, but until you've eliminated all Suspects but one, it could be anyone! There are 10 Suspects, each dressed up as a different Final Girl villain. For gameplay purposes, Suspects are not considered the Killer, an Enemy, or a Victim. They will never be targeted and cannot be damaged.
Suspects have 7 attributes, listed on their respective Suspect card. These attributes are what will help you determine who Mort is actually disguised as.
Revealing Clues
There are two new Action cards: Interrogate and Coerce. These cards can be used to reveal clues to identify which of the Suspects Mort is NOT disguised as (see later in the rules for how these Action cards are used and resolved). Whenever you successfully resolve either Interrogate or Coerce and reveal a Clue, do the following:
- Reveal one of the facedown Reminder tokens (numbered 1-5).
- Use the Clue Viewer to look at the corresponding Clue on the Clue card. It will indicate an attribute that Mort does NOT possess.
- Determine which Suspects cannot be Mort by looking at their attributes and discarding their Suspect cards from the lineup.
- For each Suspect card discarded, remove that Suspect miniature from the board and replace it with an Informant meeple.
- Keep the Reminder token faceup near the Clue card so that you remember which Clues you've already seen.
Revealing a Clue will ALWAYS eliminate at least one Suspect, and may eliminate more than one.
Clue Cards
Each double-sided Clue card has five clues on one side, numbered 1-5 to match the Reminder tokens, and the disguise Mort wears is printed on the reverse side. The card reads: "Once you have all clues, flip this card to reveal Mort's disguise."
The sheet prints two sample Clue card faces (the full 17-card deck is not reproduced on the sheet):
Razorface card (front):
- Mort is not average height.
- Mort's favorite genre is not comedy horror.
- Mort is not from Series 3.
- Mort's favorite villains are not vampires.
- Mort is not wearing facepaint.
Mort's disguise from the reverse side is Razorface.
Hans card (front):
- Mort's favorite genre is not comedy horror.
- Mort is not from Series 3.
- Mort's favorite villains are not psychopaths.
- Mort is not from Series 1.
- Mort's favorite villains are not vampires.
Mort's disguise from the reverse side is Hans.
Example: Revealing Clues
Josie successfully resolved an Interrogate card, allowing her to look at a Clue. She flips one of the Reminder tokens: it's a 2. Using the Clue Viewer, she reads Clue #2: Mort's favorite genre is not comedy horror.
Looking at the Suspect cards, she sees that comedy horror is the favorite genre of the H.U.N.T.E.R. and Baghead. Therefore, neither of them can be Mort. She discards their Suspect cards from the lineup. The Big Bad Wolf likes gothic films and Hans like slasher flicks, so their cards remain in the lineup. There's still a chance Mort could be disguised as one of them!
Josie removes the Suspect miniatures for both the H.U.N.T.E.R. and Baghead, replacing them with Informant meeples. The Big Bad Wolf and Hans, however, remain on the board.
Josie has played well and managed to reveal all 5 Clues on the Clue card! Every Suspect has been eliminated except for one: Hans. She flips the Clue card over and uses the Clue Viewer to look at the bottom line of the card. Sure enough, it's Hans, confirming that she has correctly identified Mort's disguise. She flips Hans' Suspect card over, replaces the Basic Finale card with it, and gives Mort 10 health (9 Health markers and a Final Health token). Finally, she replaces Hans' Suspect miniature with Mort's and removes all remaining Informant meeples from the board.
Suspect Attributes
The seven attributes on each Suspect card are: Mask or Facepaint; Series of Origin; Height; Favorite Board Game Style; Favorite Horror Movie Genre; Favorite Horror Movie Villain; Favorite VRG Game.
| Suspect | Mask or Facepaint | Series of Origin | Height | Favorite Board Game Style | Favorite Horror Movie Genre | Favorite Horror Movie Villain | Favorite VRG Game |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hans | Mask | Series 1 | Tall | Solo | Slasher | Psychopaths | Hostage Negotiator |
| Geppetto | Facepaint | Series 1 | Average | Multiplayer | Supernatural | Ghosts | Detective: City of Angels |
| Dr. Fright | Facepaint | Series 1 | Short | Abstract |
The Razorface, Tormentor, Ratchet and Krampus Suspect cards are not legible on this sheet; their attributes are not reproduced here. See Transcription Notes.
Interrogate and Coerce
Interrogate can only be resolved while in a space with a Suspect. After successfully interrogating a Suspect, they will panic.
Coerce can only be resolved while in a space with an Informant. After successfully coercing an Informant, you will remove them from the board.
The Interrogate card reads: "Can only be resolved when in the same space as a Suspect." It has three rows, each marked with a result icon (two stars, one star, or a crossed-out symbol):
- Two-star row: Panic the Suspect and reveal 1 Clue, then a red hourglass icon.
- One-star row: Panic the Suspect and reveal 1 Clue, then 3 red hourglass icons.
- Crossed-out row: skull icon, then 3 red hourglass icons, then Panic the Suspect and take this card back into your hand.
The card's bottom right shows 3 with a grey hourglass icon.
The sheet does not print the Coerce card's text. See Transcription Notes.
Informants
Informants are considered Victims for ALL gameplay purposes with three exceptions:
- When you save an Informant, after receiving the reward from your Final Girl card, you may then reduce Horror once (crossed-out skull icon).
- If an Informant is killed, after increasing Bloodlust, you must increase Horror once (skull icon).
- When resolving [Informant icon] or [Victim icon] for the Active Killer (see below), follow normal rules but if there are ties, prioritize Informants over normal Victims.
Suspects Temporarily Acting as Killers
Whenever you see this icon (Suspect icon), draw a token out of the Suspect bag. The token will correspond to one of the ten Suspects, who will then temporarily become the Active Killer. Mort is a master of disguise and distraction and could be impersonating ANYONE, if only for a moment! Place the token back into the bag after resolving the Killer Action(s). That Suspect could become the Active Killer again on the same or future turn.
When drawing a token, if the indicated Suspect has already been proven to NOT be Mort (i.e., their Suspect card has been discarded because of a revealed Clue and is no longer in the lineup) nothing happens and the Killer Action/effect is ignored. Instead, discard the token (do not place it back in the bag).
For each Location card (e.g. Terror cards, Event cards, etc.) that requires you to resolve an action or an effect for the Killer, draw a token from the bag as if there was a (Suspect icon) present on the card. As long as that Suspect's card is still in the lineup, they will become the Active Killer for resolving ALL Killer Actions/effects on that card.
Example: Scott has drawn EVERYBODY'S A SUSPECT during the Killer phase. The Suspect icon means he needs to draw a Suspect token out of the Suspect bag. He ends up drawing the Big Bad Wolf. Checking the Suspect lineup, he sees that the Big Bad Wolf has NOT been discarded yet, so Mort (briefly disguising himself in a wolf costume) will act, targeting the nearest Victim and moving to attack. After resolving the attack, Scott puts the token back into the Suspect bag.
The card's printed text includes the line "If no one was attacked," followed by a skull icon.
Horror Track Token
When Bloodlust reaches the highest space on the track, remove the Horror Track token from the Killer board and place it on top of the (red burst icon) symbol at the end of the Horror Track on your Player board. From now on, if Horror exceeds the maximum level, instead of increasing (red burst icon), you lose (red hourglass icon) instead.
Panic Phase
Until Mort is revealed, Victims do not panic during the Panic phase.
Running Out of Terror Cards Before Revealing All Clues
If the Finale is revealed normally when the Terror deck is exhausted, flip the Clue card over to its opposite side and reveal who Mort is disguised as. Replace that Suspect's miniature with Mort's miniature and flip their Suspect card over, replacing the Basic Finale card with the Suspect card. Then remove any remaining Suspect miniatures and Informant meeples from the Location board and discard their associated Suspect cards. If the Dark Power hasn't been revealed, reveal it immediately and discard any Minor Dark Powers in play.
Mort then receives the amount of health indicated on the Suspect card (including a Final Health token) and will also receive a special bonus based on how many unrevealed Clues there were. Place one of the Reminder tokens (numbered 1-5) on top of the Suspect card to help remember how many Clues were unrevealed.
Minor Dark Powers
Some Locations may have Minor Dark Powers that have spaces for Health markers on them. If one of these is drawn, do not place Health markers on it, as Mort cannot be attacked while he is disguised. Minor Dark Power cards that are drawn in this way may be discarded when you successfully resolve an Interrogate or a Coerce Action card with two outlined star icons.
Dark Power Cards
- Anonymous Terror (Dark Power): Each unrevealed Clue counts as 2 Clues when the Finale is revealed.
- Snitches Get Stitches (Epic Dark Power): After replacing Suspects with Informants from revealing a Clue, roll a die. On a 1-4, kill 1 Informant that was just placed.
The sheet shows the text of these two cards. The other two Dark Power cards are not legible on this sheet. See Transcription Notes.
Final Girl Cards
The two Final Girl cards (Maureen and Adrianne) read: "Each time you save a Victim, gain (reward icon), place the Victim on this card and roll a die. If the result is LOWER than the number of Victims on this card, you may flip it over (keep the Victims on the card after you flip it)."

Special Rules
Definitions
- EXHIBIT AREAS: The yellow spaces marked with this icon (spade icon) are considered Exhibit Area spaces. Thematically this is where the vendor booths are and where everyone wants to be!
- FOOD COURT: The Food Court is located in the bottom left-hand corner of the board.
- GENERAL AREAS: All remaining spaces not captured in the 2 areas above are considered the General Areas.
NOTE! See the back of this rulebook for a visual key to each of these areas on the board.
Restricted Victim Following
The Victims are having such a great time at the convention that they will not willingly follow you OUT of Exhibit Areas and into General Areas! You may not have ANY Victims follow you when moving from a (spade icon) space to a General Area space. Instead, you will need to use the Create a Panic Action card to attempt to scare them from a (spade icon) space to a General Area space. Victims could also panic and move from a (spade icon) space to a General Area space per the normal rules (i.e. if panicking during the Panic phase or panicking from other effects).
Main Hallway
When panicking someone from the Main Hallway, roll 2 dice instead of 1 to determine the direction they panic.
Searching
At Mega Boardgame Con you can search in ANY space (by resolving a Search Action card). The Item deck you draw from depends on the kind of space you are searching in: an Exhibit Area space (spade icon); the Food Court space; or a General Area space.
IMPORTANT! Because all spaces can be searched, there are no (wrench icon) icons on the spaces. However, each space is considered a (wrench icon) space for the purpose of effects that reference them. If unsure what to do in certain instances, apply the Rules on Game Ambiguity.
Moving Through Hallways and Docks
Hallways and docks are sparsely populated and you can move to other connected hallways and docks quickly! If you intend to move to a space connected by this icon (blue double-arrow icon), you get +1 (red die icon) to resolve the Action card that grants the movement, but the first space you move to MUST be an adjacent space connected with a (blue double-arrow icon).
Booth Cards and Booth Events
During each Upkeep phase you will draw a Booth card. If you need to draw a Booth card but the deck is empty, shuffle the discard pile to create a new deck.
When resolving a Booth card, roll a die and do one of the following:
- 1-3: Spawn a normal Victim in the space with the Booth. This represents a new attendee showing up to the convention!
- 4-6: Draw a Booth Event card and apply its effects in the space with the Booth.
Discard the Booth card after resolving it. Booth Event cards will instruct you as to whether or not the card should be discarded.
NOTE! Some card effects will instruct you to draw a Booth card for determining a Booth location. In these instances, do not resolve the Booth card by rolling a die.
IMPORTANT! You will no longer draw a Booth card after the Finale is revealed. Take the Finale Reminder card, flip it over, and place it on top of the Booth deck.
Visual Key to Areas
- Food Court: the single orange space in the bottom left-hand corner of the board.
- Exhibit Areas: the yellow spaces (spade icon) covering the main hall and the bottom hallway section.
- General Areas: the blue spaces covering the hallways and docks around the outside of the board.
Transcription Notes
These notes list gaps and judgment calls found while transcribing from the two rule sheets. They are not part of the printed rules.
- Clue deck incomplete. The Mort sheet prints only two of the 17 double-sided Clue cards (Razorface and Hans). The full deck is not reproduced here.
- Suspect attributes incomplete. The sheet legibly prints attribute cards for six of the ten Suspects (Hans, Geppetto, Dr. Fright, Big Bad Wolf, Baghead, H.U.N.T.E.R.). Razorface, Tormentor, Ratchet and Krampus appear only as names on the sheet and their attribute values are not in the source.
- Hans clue conflict (possible source error). The Hans Clue card lists clue 4 as "Mort is not from Series 1," but the Hans Suspect card reads Series of Origin: Series 1. Transcribed as printed; check the physical card before relying on it.
- Coerce card text missing. The sheet gives the Coerce rules in the Interrogate & Coerce section but does not print the Coerce card's text, icons or result rows.
- Dark Power cards. The sheet prints the text of Anonymous Terror and Snitches Get Stitches only. The other two Dark Power cards are not legible here.
- Terror cards. Only the Everybody's a Suspect example and one other Terror card face are visible. The full text of the 16 Mort Terror cards is not on the sheet.
- Icons without a printed key. The sheets show icons (hourglasses, skulls, stars, reward icons, the spade icon for Exhibit Areas and the wrench icon for searchable spaces) without a text key. They are described above by their printed appearance. Where the sheet's own text names an icon (for example Horror, Informant, Victim, Suspect, Bloodlust), the word is used.
- Mega Boardgame Con card text. Only the Industry Bad Boy, "A Lot Going On Today!", Box Cutter, Create a Panic, Booth, Sold Out!, Medical Buggy and Finale Reminder texts are printed. Nine of the ten Booth Event cards and most Event, Item and Terror card texts are not on the sheet.
