Objective

Be the first to 200 points, or have the most points after 3 bouts. Score points by winning fights against the other players by playing your highest cards to the right clashes at the right time.

Components

Clash Deck — 55 cards: 3 each of 2-4, 12-13, and stars; 4 each of 5 and 11; 5 each of 6 and 10; 6 each of 7 and 9; 7 of 8.

5 Player Decks (Air, Fire, Water, Earth, Light) — 25 cards each: 2 each of 2-13; 1 star.

Setup

• Grab a piece of paper and pencil to keep score. Designate a player as the scorekeeper.
• Each player takes and shuffles 1 Player Deck, placing it face down in front of them.
• Shuffle the Clash Deck and deal out a number of stacks according to player count, with each stack containing 5 face down cards. Any leftover Clash Cards are set aside.
  • 2 players: 5 stacks
  • 3 players: 7 stacks
  • 4 players: 9 stacks
  • 5 players: 11 stacks

Each stack is a clash, and each player has 5 clashes that they can play cards to. In 2-player games, all 5 clashes are shared by both players. In 3-5 player games, the middle clash is shared by all players, while their remaining clashes are shared with one other player – 2 shared with the player on their left, and 2 shared with the player on their right.

Sequence of Play

A bout consists of 5 rounds. A round consists of the following steps:

1. Each player draws 5 cards from their Player Deck into their hand.
2. Players flip the top card of each Clash Stack face up. If a Clash Stack already has a face up Clash Card on it, that card is left face up.
3. Each player places 1 card from their hand, face down, beside each of their 5 clashes.
   • If there is a card from a previous round there, players simply place their new card on top.
4. Once all players have played their cards, flip all face-down cards face up, and resolve the clashes in any order (see "Clashes").
5. Once all clashes are resolved, proceed to the next round, repeating the steps above, until a full bout of 5 rounds has been played (each Player's Deck will be empty). At the end of each bout:
   • Each player scores the points from their Point Piles (see "Scoring") and the scorekeeper adds them to any previous scores.
   • Check to see if the game end is triggered (see "Ending the Game").
   • If the game continues, sort all of the cards back into their respective decks (including any Clash Cards set aside), set up a new bout and play again!

Clashes

You win a clash if:

• The value of your played card is greater than or equal to the face up Clash Card (with Star Clash Cards being considered as 0), and is greater than your opponents' played cards. Only cards played this round are considered – cards played in previous rounds are ignored.
• You are the only player to play a Star Card. Player Star Cards beat all non-Star Cards.

The winner gains all of the face up cards at that clash, including the Clash Card from the top of the Clash Stack and any cards played from a previous round that are still in play. All gained cards are placed face down in their Point Pile.

A tie happens when:

• No played cards are greater than or equal to the value of the Clash Card.
• The highest cards played to the clash have the same value.

If a tie occurs, no one gains any cards. The Clash Card is left face up and all played cards are left in play, to be gained by the next winner at that clash.

Scoring

At the end of each round, players count the points in their Point Pile as follows:

• 5 points for each card with a value of 10 or more
• 10 points for each Star Card
• 15 points to the player with the most cards in their Point Pile. If multiple players tie for the most cards, all of those players score 15 points.

Ending the Game

The game ends after 3 bouts, or after any bout if at least 1 player has at least 200 points, whichever comes first. The player with the most points is the winner! If multiple players tie for the most points, those players share the win.

Alternate Game Lengths
