TK 1.0 Phase 1. Hear Ye, Hear Ye

TK 1.1 Teutonic Knights Grand Master

Election: The Teutonic Knights Grand Master election takes place before Bishop elections (1.4) (and after the Templar Grand Master election if the Templars Expansion is in play).

Candidates: Any Lords with Teutonic Lord Titles, who are not prisoners, excommunicated and not a Renegade.

Votes: A Player receives one vote for each of his Teutonic Lords. A Lord may vote for himself.

Election Result: A candidate is elected by a simple majority (more votes than any other candidate), with a minimum of 2 votes.

TK 1.1.1 Teutonic Knights Grand Master Abilities:

  • The Teutonic Knights Grand Master Title is worth 1 VP.
  • If the Teutonic Knights Grand Master is in play, all Teutonic Lords (including the Teutonic Knights Grand Master) must join the Crusades (C 2.2).
  • As long as the Teutonic Knights Grand Master is in play, each Teutonic Knight in a Battle adds +1 Bonus Hit to the Battle Dice total result (TK 3.2).

TK 1.2 Archbishop

A Bishop may now receive a second Bishop's Title. As soon as a Bishop wins a second Bishop Title election, he is considered an Archbishop.

Example: Arthur is the Archbishop of both Bishoprics 1 and 3.

An Archbishop:

  • Has 2 votes when electing a Bishop.
  • May collect Tithes on both of his Bishoprics in the same turn, if the Player plays two Tax cards.
  • Counts like a Cardinal when electing the King (1.8), but not when electing the Pope.

TK 2.0 Phase 2. Draw & Play Cards

Instead of drawing a new Lord or Fortune card (2.1), a Player may draw and immediately place a Teutonic Lord Title counter next to any unmarried male Lord that has no ecclesiastical Title, who is not a captive, excommunicated, or a Renegade (C 1.2.2).

A family cannot have Titles from both the Templars and Teutonic Knights Orders. However, marriages are allowed between families that have Titles from the different Orders.

When a family gains a Teutonic Lord Title, 4 Teutonic Knight Troop counters are placed on its Family Board. These Teutonic Knights may be purchased during future Purchase Phases (TK 3.0).

TK 2.1 Teutonic Lords

A Teutonic Lord may not marry or have any Ecclesiastic Titles. He may have a Fief Title, but can not be elected King. A Teutonic Lord may not attack another Teutonic Lord. A Teutonic Lord may never sponsor an Assassination (10.3).

TK 3.0 Phase 4. Purchase

TK 3.1 Teutonic Fortifications

A Teutonic Fortification (Stronghold or Fortified City) denotes a power center of the Order of Teutonic Knights. A Player with at least one Teutonic Lord can once per Purchase Phase purchase or upgrade a Teutonic Stronghold or Teutonic Fortified City.

TK 3.1.1 Teutonic Stronghold

Cost: 10 Deniers to place a Teutonic Stronghold on a Village with no normal Stronghold, or 4 Deniers to upgrade an existing normal Stronghold with a Teutonic Stronghold.

Placement: On any Village occupied by one of your Teutonic Lords.

TK 3.1.2 Teutonic Fortified City

A Teutonic Stronghold is exchanged with a Teutonic Fortified City counter when the Fief Title for that Fiefdom is purchased (4.3).

A normal Fortified City can be upgraded into a Teutonic Fortified City for 4 Deniers, if occupied by a Teutonic Lord.

TK 3.1.3 Teutonic Fortifications Special Abilities

  • Teutonic Fortifications have the same defenses as normal Strongholds and Fortified Cities: -1 Battle Die Attacker Penalty for a Teutonic Stronghold, -2 Battle Dice Attacker Penalty for a Teutonic Fortified City (6.2.1).
  • Attacks from tunnels with a Secret Passage card (10.2.2) are not allowed against Teutonic Fortifications.
  • A Teutonic Fortification cannot be destroyed by an Uprising.
  • Teutonic Fortifications within 3 Villages of each other are interconnected by secret passages and trails. Troops and Lords may move from one Teutonic Fortification to the next interconnected Teutonic Fortification for the cost of just 1 Move. A Player moving in this way must receive permission from the Player that controls the Teutonic Fortification he wishes to move to. Opposing armies occupying Villages located between interconnected Teutonic Fortifications are ignored when moving, as are besieging (6.4) opponent armies.

Example: KIRSTEN receives permission and moves her Lord and Army from the Teutonic Stronghold of LA SALLE in the NE portion of the map to the Teutonic Stronghold of VILLENEUVE for her first move. She then moves again to the Teutonic Fortified City of ST ANDRE in the SE portion of the map for her second move. She moved her army across the Kingdom, ignoring any opposing armies in Villages between the Teutonic Fortifications!

TK 3.2 Teutonic Knight Troops

Cost: 3 Deniers. You must have at least one Teutonic Lord in your Family and control a Teutonic Fortification. Teutonic Knights must be placed in a Teutonic Fortification.

Effects:

  • Teutonic Knights move and battle like normal Knights and can move and battle with non-Teutonic Lords. If a Battle is led by a Teutonic Lord, then each Battle Dice roll total is increased by a +1 Bonus Hit for every two Teutonic Knights participating in the Battle. If a Teutonic Knights Grand Master is in play, this bonus increases to a +1 Bonus Hit for each Teutonic Knight participating in the Battle.
  • Teutonic Knight Troops killed in Battle are placed back onto the player's Family Board and can be repurchased in future Purchase Phases.

TK 4.0 Phase 5. Movement

TK 4.1 Crusade

Note: If playing with the Crusades Expansion, the following rule applies:

Teutonic Knight Lords may join a crusade at the end of their Movement Phase during a Crusade's Invasion of the Outremers round (C1.2.1) and during a Crusade's Saladin's Revenge round (C2.2).

TK 5.0 FAQ

Q: Can the Teutonic Knight Grand Master vote in the King's election (1.8)?

A: No, he has no vote in the King's election. However, he can vote if he has a Fief's Title in addition to his Teutonic Title.
