Contents
- 1 grill (consisting of 2 grill feet and 1 grill grate)
- 1 pair of grill tongs
- 18 grill pieces (2 bell peppers, 3 corn cobs, 2 steaks, 2 fish, 3 mushrooms, 3 aubergines, 3 sausages)
- 18 grill cards
- 15 grill chips (yellow, green, blue, red, purple)
- 15 bonus cards
Goal
Who handles the grill tongs skilfully and packs one grill piece after another onto the grill without anything falling off? If something falls off the grill, you must hand over grill chips. Who stays in the game until the end and becomes the Grill Master?
Assembling the Grill
- Take the two grill feet out of the box and join them into a cross.
- Place the cross on the table with the long side facing down.
- Now set the grill grate centred on the cross. The grill is ready!
Setup
Before the very first game, carefully punch the grill cards and bonus cards as well as the grill chips out of their punch sheets. Place the grill in the middle of the table where everyone can reach it. Put the grill pieces beside the grill as the general supply. Shuffle the grill cards and place them face down beside the grill as the draw pile. Keep the grill tongs ready.
Each player takes 3 bonus cards (one of each type) and the 3 grill chips of one colour and places them face up in front of them. Grill chips and bonus cards that are not needed are returned to the box.
Starting the Game
You play clockwise. The youngest player begins and takes the grill tongs. On your turn, reveal the top grill card from the face-down draw pile. Use the grill tongs to pick up the grill piece shown on the grill card and place it on the grill without it falling off. In doing so, you must observe the following:
- Grill tongs: You may use the grill tongs with one or both hands.
- Hands off! Grill pieces from the general supply, and grill pieces already on the grill, may only be touched with the grill tongs, not with your hand!
- Grill freedom: You may place the grill pieces on the grill however you like. You can use the entire square surface. It does not matter whether you place the grill pieces next to or on top of each other, or stand them upright.
- Lack of space: You may move the grill pieces already on the grill with the grill tongs. But you may not remove a grill piece or let one fall off.
- New attempt: If a grill piece slips out of the grill tongs and falls onto the table, you may pick it up again with the grill tongs and try to place it on the grill.
Once you have placed your grill piece on the grill without anything having fallen off the grill, you pass the grill tongs to your left-hand neighbour. Place the grill card face up beside the face-down draw pile. This is your discard pile. Once all grill cards have been used up, shuffle the discard pile and place it again as the face-down draw pile.
When Do You Lose Grill Chips?
On your turn, if one or more grill pieces fall off the grill, you must hand over one grill chip for each grill piece that fell off. If you lose your last grill chip, the game is unfortunately over for you.
If you touch the grill or the grill pieces with your hand while you are on turn, you must also hand over one grill chip as a penalty.
What Do the Bonus Cards Mean?
If you have revealed a grill card that you do not want to or cannot fulfil, you may play a bonus card at any time. However, you must choose it before you place a grill piece on the grill. The bonus cards help you as follows:
-
Pause: Pass the grill tongs to the next player clockwise. That player must fulfil the grill card you have already revealed for you. They may also play a bonus card in this case. Afterwards, the next player is on turn.
-
Apprentice (Lehrling): Up to two grill pieces may fall off the grill for you without you having to hand over any grill chips. For the third and every further grill piece that falls off, you must hand over one grill chip each.
Example: Benjamin is on turn. He reveals the grill card "Sausage" (Würstchen). Fearing that it will fall off the grill, he chooses the bonus card "Apprentice" (Lehrling). When he tries to place a sausage on the grill, three grill pieces fall off. Because he played the "Apprentice" bonus card, he only has to hand over one grill chip.
-
Done! (Gar!): Before you place your grill piece on the grill, you may take any two grill pieces from the grill with the grill tongs and return them to the general supply. If one or more grill pieces fall off the grill while you do this, you must hand over as many grill chips as fell off.
You may use each bonus card only once. Bonus cards you have used are returned to the box.
No More Grill Pieces
If there is no grill piece left in the general supply that matches your revealed grill card, you have been lucky and do not have to place anything on the grill. The next player is immediately on turn.
Grill Accident
If the grill together with the grill pieces tips over completely, the player who caused the grill accident is immediately out of the game. Set up the grill again and place the grill pieces beside the grill as the general supply. Then continue playing as described above.
End of the Game
The game can end in two different ways:
- If you are the only player who still has one or more grill chips, you win the game.
- If you manage to place the last grill piece from the general supply on the grill without any grill piece falling off, you win the game. It does not matter how many grill chips you or your fellow players still have.
