- 48 dragon eggs in 4 colors
- 50 cardboard coins
Object of the Game
You collect dragon cards and try to achieve combinations with them so that you can place dragon eggs. Every card shows a condition for when an egg may be placed on it. So what matters is acquiring cards whose values and colors combine well with the cards you have already bought.
Whoever is first to manage to place all their eggs on cards wins the game.
The Dragon Cards
The dragon cards exist in the four colors blue, green, purple and red, with the numbers 1 to 8 each twice. In addition there are eight black cards without a number value. At the bottom of each card is the condition that must be fulfilled to place an egg there. The conditions are explained in more detail in the appendix.
Setup
Shuffle all the cards and deal 2 cards to each player, to be placed face up in their personal display. If cards with coins in their condition are dealt, they are replaced by new cards and shuffled back into the deck before the game starts.
Each player takes all the eggs of one color. With fewer than 4 players, the remaining eggs stay in the box.
The remaining cards form the draw pile, from which 3 cards are laid out face up. These cards form the dragon market. 1 coin from the supply is placed on each of these 3 cards.
Between each two players, one white community card with a shared goal is laid out face up. The remaining cards go back into the box.
The player who most recently spat fire starts. The starting player receives 10 coins from the supply. The player after them receives 9 coins, all others 8 coins each.
Gameplay
The game is played until someone has managed to place all their own eggs on cards. As a rule this happens only on your own cards. A few eggs, however, are placed elsewhere through special effects (see below).
On your turn you may buy one of the three cards in the dragon market or one card from the draw pile.
If you buy a card from the market, you take the card and all coins lying on it and place the card in your display in front of you.
Before that, however, you must place 1 coin from your own supply on each of the two cards in the dragon market that you did not buy. You must do this before you receive any coins that lay on the card you bought. So you must already own these coins.
Afterwards you draw a new card from the pile and place it in the dragon market, to refill it to 3 cards.
If you buy a card from the draw pile, you may even draw 3 cards from the pile and choose one of them. The other two cards are placed on a discard pile. In this case, however, you must place 1 coin on each of all 3 cards in the dragon market.
Example
Heidi's turn. Before her turn she owns 4 coins. She takes the red card, on which 2 coins lie. On each of the two other cards she places one coin. This is no problem for her, since she had enough coins in her supply beforehand. Afterwards a new card is revealed and the next player takes their turn.
If you cannot or do not want to buy a card, for example because you do not have enough coins, you may forgo buying a card and instead take 5 coins from the general supply.
In the lower area of the dragon card you find the condition for placing an egg or performing other actions. The conditions are explained in more detail in the appendix. It is best to look over the conditions together once at the end of the explanation, so that everyone knows what the symbols mean.
As soon as you have fulfilled one or more of these conditions during the game, you may place an egg there immediately. Of course you may also do so later, if you overlooked that you had fulfilled a condition and want to catch up.
Tip: For a better overview it has proven helpful to lay the cards out next to each other in ascending values and to group equal values on top of each other.
Community Cards
Between each two players lies one community card in the game. You must fulfil its condition together. It is not relevant which of you contributed more to the condition. It is even possible that the condition was fulfilled by only one person. Both players may nevertheless place eggs.
As soon as the condition is fulfilled, the person who contributed to it with their last card may place 2 eggs on the card; the second person may place 1 egg.
The conditions are structured similarly to those on the dragon cards and are therefore not explained separately.
End of the Game
When one of you has managed to have no eggs left in their supply, the game ends. The current round is still played to the end, however, so that everyone has had the same number of turns.
If you could place more eggs than you have in your supply, you receive a golden egg for each additional one. To show this, take a card from the supply pile and place it face down in front of you. A golden egg is depicted on its back.
The winner is whoever managed to place all their eggs. If several of you manage that, the one among them with the most golden eggs wins. If there is again a tie, the one with more money left wins. If this too is equal, all players involved in the tie win.
