Do life drain effects like Syphon Soul trigger when the attack is blocked or absorbed by armour?

If armour absorbs it, Syphon Soul still triggers as long as the enemy dealt at least 1 damage, even though the hero loses no health (publisher). Community players add that if an attack is fully blocked by block tokens, no damage was dealt and life drain does not happen, while armour-piercing or unblockable damage still counts.
