Cats – Monk Clan
The Monks are the enlightened guardians of Ethnos, embodying calm and wisdom. Masters of spiritual power, they guide their allies with serene precision. Their quiet presence and deep insight bring harmony to a restless land.
When a Cat is played as the Leader of a Party, draw cards from the Ally Deck equal to the number of cards in that Party and place them in the Ally Pool, as a row of recruitable Allies. After discarding cards from hand, the player may choose 2 cards from the Ally Pool and take them into their hand.
During end-of-Age scoring, each Party led by a Cat scores Prestige as if that Party had one fewer card.
Example 1 (Cat Clan): Wilfred has 7 cards in his hand and plays a Party of 3 Allies led by a Cat. He takes the top 3 cards of the Ally Deck and places them in the Ally Pool, then discards the cards from his hand into the Ally Pool. He then chooses 2 cards from the Ally Pool and may take them into his hand. At the end of the Age, his Party of 3 Allies led by the Cat scores Prestige as if it had only 2 cards.
Platypuses – Seafarer Clan
The Seafarers are fearless travellers of Ethnos. Masters of the seas, they command the waters through bold skill. Travelling across waterways and coastal regions, they strategically extend their influence using their naval experience.
When a Platypus is played as the Leader of a Party, the player moves their Control marker on the Platypus board a number of spaces equal to the number of cards in the played Party. If the marker reaches or passes a space bearing the Platypus symbol, the player may activate that space's ability as follows:
- Space 3: Move 1 Control marker from one Region to any 1 Region.
- Space 7: Move 2 Control markers from one Region to any 1 adjacent Region.
- Space 12: Move 2 Control markers from one Region to any 1 Region.
- Space 15: Move 3 Control markers from one Region to any 1 adjacent Region.
- Space 18: Move 3 Control markers from one Region to any 1 Region.
At the end of each Age, the player whose marker is furthest along the Platypus board scores Prestige as if the board were a separate Region.
Markers on the Platypus board are never removed. Once a marker has reached the last space, it can no longer be moved.
Example 2 (Platypus Clan): Emi plays a Party of 3 Allies with a green Platypus as Leader. She can place a Control marker in the Green Region, since she already has 2 Control markers there. She then moves her Control marker 3 spaces on the Platypus board. If her marker reaches the 3rd space, which shows the Platypus symbol, she may move 1 marker from the Green Region to the Red Region. If her Control marker on the Platypus board is furthest along at the end of each Age, she scores Prestige according to the Age number shown on the Platypus board.
Opossums – Farmer Clan
The Farmers are dedicated cultivators who tend the land of Ethnos with loyalty and care. Masters of agriculture and growth, they sow the seeds of influence to guarantee abundant harvests. Their tireless work keeps the land stable.
When an Opossum is played as the Leader of a Party, the player may not place any Control markers on the board, regardless of the size of the Party.
However, the Opossum Clan has twice as many cards as the other Clans. This makes it easier to build larger Parties, which score more Prestige at the end of the Age.
Moles – Miner Clan
The Miners are cheerful earth-dwellers who dig deep beneath the ground in search of hidden riches. With unshakeable determination they develop strategies and tactics and fortify their territories. Their steadfast commitment makes them a powerful force that forms the very foundation of Ethnos.
When a Mole is played as the Leader of a Party, the player may swap this Party with one of their opponent's Parties of the same size or smaller, and then immediately play the new Party.
Memo
The memo page pairs each promo Clan with a pictogram. The pictograms are described in brackets; the text is the printed memo text.
[Opossum icon with a no-entry sign:] You cannot place a Control marker on the board.
[Two card stacks with an exchange arrow between them:] You may swap this Party with your opponent's Party of the same size or smaller, and then immediately play a new Party.
[Three card stacks with an arrow to the Ally Pool, a hand, and a star icon with a card marked "-1":] Take the top cards of the Ally Deck equal to the number of cards in the played Party and add them to the Ally Pool. After discarding cards, take 2 cards from the Ally Pool into your hand. During end-of-Age scoring, each Party led by a Cat counts as a Party with one fewer Ally.
[Platypus icon with a row of hexagonal spaces and an arrow, then a card stack:] Move your Control marker on the Platypus board by a number of spaces equal to the number of cards in the just-played Party.
