1. Introduction

Welcome to the line for 2 players of Escape Room The Game by Cranio Creations. As in many Escape Rooms in the world, you are locked inside the game and the objective is to find the codes to escape within 60 minutes by solving every kind of puzzle and riddle. Rack your brains! Teamwork, efficient communication, ingenuity, creativity, logic and attention to detail are all equally important.

This box contains 2 exciting adventures and an introductory adventure of 15 minutes. Just like in real Escape Rooms, you can play each adventure only once, but once you have finished the adventures you can always buy new ones.

Are you ready for the final challenge?

Contents

  • Hint Decoder
  • Lace (string)
  • The 3 Adventures (the difficulty of each level is shown on the box by a bar of five squares):
    • Rapito (Kidnapped) – introductory adventure of 15 minutes
      1. The Dagger of the Sultan (Il Pugnale del Sultano)
      1. Viking Funeral (Funerale Vichingo)

Requires

A well-charged smartphone for access to the digital Chrono Decoder, OR the Chrono Decoder with the keys from the base game.

THIS NOTE IS CRUCIAL! Read the rules of the game carefully and in full. You must know the rules well in order to succeed in escaping. IMPORTANT: READ, OBSERVE AND COMMUNICATE!

2. Setup

Make sure you have the Hint Decoder within reach. Take paper and pen. Make sure you have good lighting and sit around the table so that everyone has a good view of everything. Examine the details of the keys carefully before you start to play. We recommend starting with the 15-minute introductory adventure Rapito.

3. Chrono Decoder (Digital)

Scan the QR code or go to the website app.escaperoomthegame.com for the digital Chrono Decoder. Press "Escape Room Il Gioco per 2 Giocatori" (Escape Room The Game for 2 Players), select the adventure and then the Chrono Decoder.

Do you already own the Chrono Decoder from another Escape Room The Game? You can use that device to live the true Escape Room The Game experience. Before starting, insert 3 new AA batteries in the Chrono Decoder and keep the 16 keys within reach.

Note: to activate the 15-minute timer, keep the START button pressed for 3 seconds.

4. Background Music and Step-by-Step Solution

Do you want background music for a better play experience? Scan the QR code or go to the website app.escaperoomthegame.com. Select the adventure and then the music button. Here you can also download the step-by-step solutions during the game.

5. Object of the Game

Each adventure is made up of 3 parts. In each part, you must find a code that consists of 4 keys to insert in the Chrono Decoder. Find the 3 correct codes within the limit of 60 minutes to win the game.

6. The Game

Then take the adventure you want to play, gently remove the stickers and open the case to access the hints. Read aloud and calmly the introductory text of the adventure. Open the first part of the adventure and check that the contents match. Is everything there? Carefully remove all objects from the frame. Press the START button on the Chrono Decoder (digital) to start the countdown of exactly 60 minutes: the game has begun!

Never open a part of an adventure or a sealed object except when you are explicitly told to.

All players start by examining the front and the back of the materials found, searching for clues, codes, riddles and (parts of) puzzles, working as a team. The solutions of the puzzles reveal information (such as a letter, a digit, a shape, an arrow, a notch, a dot, a Roman numeral, etc.) which are also found on the keys. Once you have found the first of the 3 codes, take the 4 keys corresponding to this information and insert them from left to right in the Chrono Decoder.

If the code entered is wrong, you will hear an error sound and 1 minute will be taken off your remaining time. Continue to look for the code. You cannot proceed with the adventure until you have found the right code. When you enter the correct code, you will hear a victory melody and the countdown will continue normally.

Now open the next parts of the adventure and proceed to decipher the second code. After you have entered the third correct code, you will hear a victory melody and the countdown will stop.

Questions? Check the FAQ on the website.

7. Keys (Digital)

VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION!

The (digital) Chrono Decoder includes keys with 6 different sides. There are 4 copies of each key, each one showing various pieces of information that can be associated with the codes you will find in the game. Examine the keys carefully before you start playing!

Each key shows: a Roman numeral, a dot, an arrow, a digit, a shape, a letter, a notch (zigzag edge), and a shaped base.

8. Hints

Each adventure contains 8 ordinary hints, 8 extra hints and the solutions for part 1 and 2. These are found inside the case. From time to time you will hear a "beep-beep" coming from the Chrono Decoder: it indicates that it is possible to look at one of the Hint cards. Place the Hint Decoder on top of the ordinary hint to read it. You can choose not to look at it right away, but at that point the game will be harder. If the hints still leave you stuck, you can read the extra hint. If you really cannot go on, you can read the solutions in the same way. Always read the hints with attention and in full! If the hint seems superfluous to you, it means you are on the right track and on time.

The Hint Decoder panels are labelled:

  1. Number: this is the order in which you must read the hints.
  2. Part 1, 2 or 3: the hint concerns the indicated part of the adventure.
  3. Time: never read a hint before the indicated time has passed.
  4. Solution: you decide whether to use it immediately, later or not at all.

The box areas are labelled "Ordinary Hints" (Stuck? Take a look at these hints.), "Extra Hints" (If the ordinary hints do not help you enough, take a look at these extra ones too.) and "ATTENTION! THESE ARE THE SOLUTIONS." (Solution part 1, Solution part 2, Solution part 3 – find the solution of part 3 on the website www.escaperoomthegame.com).

9. Victory

If you have entered the 3 correct codes in the Chrono Decoder within the 60 minutes, you will hear a victory melody and you will have won the game! Congratulations, you now belong to the roughly 75% of players who reach the end of the Escape Room in time! Do not forget to switch off the Chrono Decoder when you have finished. Take a photo of your remaining time and share it on social @escaperoomthegame.

If you were not able to find all the correct codes within 60 minutes, you will hear the sound that indicates defeat and the time shown on the screen will start counting extra minutes. You can still try to find the missing codes. The Decoder will work exactly as before, but you will not hear the final victory melody and you will not lose any more time should you have to enter another wrong code.

10. Solutions and New Adventures

Did you fail to find all the codes or are you curious to discover the missing clues? Take a look at the website www.escaperoomthegame.com, select the adventure and download the step-by-step solution.

If other people want to replay the game, you can print all the components marked "single use" and marked with a printer icon, and put them back inside the game (check the website in the Download section). Make sure to put each component back in the correct case. Once you have played all the adventures, you can purchase other new and exciting adventures of Escape Room The Game!

Some Tips

Sometimes you may feel frustrated, but this too is part of the Escape Room experience. Retrace all the steps you have taken to find possible flaws in your reasoning. Keep these tips handy and read them when you are stuck:

  • Communicate openly, share all the information.
  • Do not damage any component. Only materials marked with a printer icon can be altered by folding, writing on, cutting them...
  • Take notes. This can help you find new logical connections.
  • No particular knowledge is required to play.
  • You can use all the handy functions of your cell phone: torch, calculator.
  • Read the rules aloud before starting. Keep the information on the key characteristics within reach as well as these tips.
  • Go back over the previous parts. The parts you have already completed may contain information needed later.

BUT MOST IMPORTANT: DO NOT GIVE UP! THE SOLUTIONS ARE LITERALLY RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR EYES!
