Table of Contents
Table of Contents
Components
- 3 Smithies and 6 Trebuchets (9 building miniatures)
- 1 building card
- 4 reference cards
Setup
-
Add the new buildings to the game.
a) If you are playing only with this expansion, add the two new building types to the supply before the start of the game. (Return the building card to the box.)
b) If you are playing with the Rivers & Roads expansion and/or Collector Sets 2–4, lay out the building card during setup step 1 and place the building miniatures on it. Add all Trebuchet miniatures to the supply.
-
Cut out the reference cards and place them on the table so that they are visible to all players.
Note: the printed setup step 1b reads "Collector Sets 2–4", not 2–5. It is transcribed as printed.
New Buildings
The source gives each building's shape as a pictogram, which is described here in words. Costs are shown in icons: swords, stone (the grey pentagonal shape), and trade goods (the chest icon). Victory points are shown as a star.
| Building | Shape | Cost | Victory points | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Smithy | 4 squares, T-shaped (one square on top of a row of three) | 1 sword, 1 stone, 2 trade goods | 2 | Demand 1 additional resource from each player you raid who has fewer swords than you. |
| Trebuchet | 3 squares in a row | 2 swords, 1 stone | 0 | Add 1 sword to your other swords in each Raid phase. Trebuchets also help with sieges. |
Smithy
As soon as a player makes a Raid, he immediately demands 1 additional resource from each player who has fewer swords than he does.
If a player has no resources or refuses to pay, he must advance his disaster track twice for each resource he did not give to the opponent.
Players whose number of shields is greater than or equal to your number of swords are immune, as usual.
Trebuchet
Add 1 sword to your other swords in each Raid phase. Trebuchets also help with sieges (see the Siege disaster below).
Trebuchets are not buildings, so they can be removed by scorched earth and floods (only if you have no free space in your domain to place them). Trebuchets removed this way return to the supply.
Note: "Raid" is the source's name for the phase in which swords and shields are used ("в каждую фазу Набега"). This insert does not restate the base rulebook's name for that phase, so the base rulebook's own term applies.
New Disaster: Siege
The Siege disaster occurs in addition to the Fire disaster. Fire is resolved first, then Siege (in turn order).
The starting player resolves all of their disasters first. Then, clockwise around the table, each player does the same, in accordance with the number of skulls rolled in phase "1. ROLL DICE".
| Cause | Result | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| 4 skulls (two rows of two) | Siege | If you have at least 1 Trebuchet, you must lay siege to your opponents' domains. Going clockwise, starting with the player on your left, each opponent must choose one of the following: |
- Endure – the player removes 1 wall and discards 3 food (after this, his domain is immune to all further sieges in this round).
- Suffer defeat! – the player removes 1 wall and advances his disaster track by one step for each Trebuchet in the attacker's domain.
- Surrender – the player gives 1 resource of the attacker's choice for each Trebuchet in the attacker's domain.
The resources are chosen after the opponent has decided whether to surrender or not. The opponent loses the resources the attacker demanded, even if he has nowhere to store them.
When a player chooses "Endure" or "Suffer defeat!", he decides which wall is removed. Players may choose these options even if they have no walls left. Walls removed this way return to the supply.
Note: in the solo mode the Siege disaster is not played.
Tip (from the source): to make the game more competitive (for example, when playing two-player), you may skip the Fire disaster and resolve only the Siege.
Example
Example (from the source):
- Zoya (the starting player) rolled 4 skulls. She has 0 Trebuchets.
- Lisa also rolled 4 skulls. She has 3 Trebuchets.
- Andrey rolled 0 skulls. He has 2 Trebuchets.
In phase 4, "DISASTERS":
Zoya removes one building from her domain (because of fire). She lays siege to nobody, because she has no Trebuchets.
Then Lisa removes 1 building from her domain (because of fire). First she lays siege to Andrey, because he is on her left. Andrey prefers to surrender. Lisa demands 3 resources (of her choice) from Andrey, and he gives them to her. Then she lays siege to Zoya. Zoya prefers to suffer defeat: she removes 1 wall and advances her disaster track 3 times.
Andrey rolled no skulls, so no further disasters occur.
Translator's Notes
The insert's credits, manufacturer and safety notices, and the set-code labels printed on the reference cards are not transcribed. The four reference cards are printed two-sided: the front of each card shows the building's shape, cost, victory points and effect, and the back shows the Siege disaster. The card text is the same as the rules above. The printed reference-card headings read "Пямятка" (a misprint for "Памятка", "reference card"); this is noted here rather than reproduced in the text.
