Enclosure Board

  • First player mark: the pink mark at the top of one board.
  • Habitat Area (16 spaces): The enclosure's habitat is divided into 5 areas: mountain, coast, forest, desert, and city. The city area consists of 4 spaces, and each other area consists of 3 spaces. Each space can contain up to one creature token.
  • Research Area (4 spaces): You can place one research card in each space from 1 to 4. However, space 4 cannot be used at the start of the game.

Setup

  1. Prepare as many enclosure boards as the number of players (one of them should have a pink mark on the top). Each player randomly receives one board. The player who receives the board with the pink mark is the first player. The players will take turns in clockwise order.
  2. Each player takes 1 each of the 6 types of creature tokens (Sumesh, Gajamina, Safat, Tsuchinoko, Werewolf, and Cerberus). Then, randomly place the tokens one by one on the following 6 spaces in the enclosure board:
    • 2-1: The leftmost space in Mountain
    • 2-2: The topmost space in Coast
    • 2-3: The rightmost space in Forest
    • 2-4: The bottommost space in Desert
    • 2-5: The top-left space in City
    • 2-6: The bottom-right space in City
  3. Take 4 each of the 6 types of creature tokens and place them in the center of the table. This will be called the "Supply". If playing with 3 or fewer players, return the unused creature tokens back to the box.
  4. Each player takes 6 movement cards (1 of each type of movement) and puts them in their hand. Then, randomly discard as many cards as indicated in the table below. Place the discarded card(s) in a face up stack in front of you (this will be called the "discard pile").

  1. Each player receives a random private milestone card. Place the card face up on the 4 space in the research area of their own enclosure board. Return the unused private milestone cards back to the box.
  2. Randomly take the public milestone cards as many as the number of players + 1 and place them face up in the center of the table. Return the unused public milestone cards to the box.
  3. Shuffle the basic research cards and advanced research cards separately and place them face down in the center of the table. These are called "Basic Research Deck" and "Advanced Research Deck" respectively.
  4. Draw 5 cards from the top of the basic research deck and 4 cards from the top of the advanced research deck. Place them face up in a row next to each deck. These are called the "Basic Research Display" and "Advanced Research Display" respectively.
  5. Put the player aid card on the table reachable by all players.

Game Flow

Each player takes turns in clockwise order, starting with the first player. The end game is triggered when any player completes 12 research cards (sum of both basic and advanced research cards). The game continues until everyone has played the same number of turns. Then, the final score is calculated and the player with the most evaluation points (EP) wins the game.

Turn Flow

On each of your turns, you can perform any combination of actions worth 3 action points (AP) (or 4 AP if you meet the conditions described below). You may perform the same action more than once in one turn. You do not have to use all of your AP, but you cannot carry over unused AP to your next turn.

  • 1AP: Play a movement card
  • 1AP: Take a research card
  • 2AP: Collect movement cards
  • 2AP: Complete researches
  • 0AP: Complete a Milestone

At the end of your turn, if there were card(s) taken from the basic or advanced research display, draw new card(s) from the top of the corresponding deck and place it face up to fill all the empty spaces.

Play a movement card (1AP)

Choose a movement card from your hand and push or swap creature tokens based on that card. Place the used cards face up in your discard pile.

Pushing Creatures (1 type)

Take any creature token from the supply and push it straight from the outside into any one of the 12 spaces on the outer side of your habitat area (you may push it in from any direction, regardless of the orientation of the card image).

If there is already another creature token on that space, that token will be pushed in the same direction and moved to the next space. Following this, as long as there is a creature token in the destination space, the pushing will continue in the same way. A creature token that was pushed out from the habitat area is returned to the supply.

Swapping Creatures (5 types)

From your habitat area, choose any two spaces that are indicated in the movement card and have a creature token at least on one of the spaces. If both spaces have creature tokens, swap their positions. If only one space has a creature token, move that creature to the other space.

Card images can be rotated or flipped as desired.

Take a research card (1AP)

Select and take any one of the research cards from any display (basic or advanced). Empty spaces are not replenished with new cards yet (as mentioned above, they are replenished at the end of the turn).

Alternatively, you may take a card by drawing from the top of any deck instead.

Place the taken cards on the free space in your research area. This action cannot be performed if there is no free space in your research area.

Collect movement cards (2AP)

Return all movement cards in your discard pile to your hand.

Complete research cards (2AP)

Take all research cards in your research area that meet the requirements (specific creature tokens in specific habitat areas) and place them face up next to your enclosure board. You have now completed those cards.

If any of the cards that you have completed has a "Push a Creature Token" effect indicated at the bottom, you may immediately execute it. This pushing is similar to the "Play a Movement Card" action, but specifies the type of creature taken from the supply. If there are no tokens of that creature in the supply, this effect cannot be performed.

Research Card

  • Basic research card: shows the type of creature token taken from the supply (Push a Creature Token effect), the EP, and the requirements.
  • Advanced research card: shows the requirements, the Push a Creature Token effect, and the EP.

Complete a Milestone (no AP consumption)

This action does not consume AP. Take your private milestone card or one of the public milestone cards in the center of the table that you have fulfilled the requirements for and place it face up next to your Enclosure Board.

You have now completed the card. There is no limit to the number of milestone cards that can be achieved in one turn. If you complete your private milestone card, you will be able to perform actions up to 4 AP starting from your next turn. Additionally, research cards can be placed in the 4 space of your research area. Public milestone cards are first-come-first-served. Milestone cards that have been completed by a player cannot be completed by anyone else.

Milestone Card

Please refer to the Reference section below for each milestone card's details. A private milestone card may list alternative requirements ("or"): fulfill any one of them. Each milestone card shows its EP.

Tags

Some milestone card requirements and final scorings are referring to the tags in your completed research cards. There are eleven types of tags, the five areas and the six creatures.

Each basic research card provides one tag for each area and creature in its requirements. For example, a research card requiring you to place Sumesh in the Mountain and Gajamina in the Forest provides a mountain tag, a Sumesh tag, a forest tag, and a Gajamina tag.

End Game

The end game is triggered when any player completes 12 research cards (sum of both basic and advanced, but not including milestone cards).

When the next player to the right of the first player finishes their turn (if that player is the one who triggers the end game, then at the end of their turn), the game ends and the final score is calculated.

Final Score Calculation

Count the EP shown on each basic research card, advanced research cards, and milestone cards. The player with the highest total EP wins the game.

In case of a tie, the player with the most advanced research cards is the winner. If there is still a tie, the player with the most creature tokens on their habitat area is the winner. If still tied, all tied players share the victory.

Biohack: Expansion Module

You may use the creature tokens in this "Enclosure" as an expansion module in "Biohack".

When playing Biohack, each player randomly places the 6 creature tokens (1 of each type) on the following creature card spaces in their player board:

  • 3 rightmost spaces of the common class
  • 2 rightmost spaces of the artisan class
  • 1 rightmost space of the noble class

Each creature token represents a creature icon. This reference will be on the back side of the player aid.

TokenCreature icon
SumeshMammal
GajaminaAquatic
SafatAvian
TsuchinokoReptile
WerewolfPrimate
CerberusFeral

Whenever a player creates a creature and places the creature card on the space where there is a creature token, check whether the creature type (any icon in the creation cost) matches with the creature token or not.

If the creature type matches with the token, move the token to near the player board.

If the creature type did not match with the token, return the token back to the box.

At the end of the game, each creature token moved to near the player board will give an additional 3 EP.
